  1. What a way to cap off an amazing season for Geo.
  2. Count me in as thinking Hawpe just might be the best option we have in right field if he's available.
  3. I-O-W-A IOWA IOWA IOWA!
  4. I talk to Mark Cuban tonight. I'll give you guys a heads up.
  5. hendry's got to let him know how much better his numbers might be at petco and NL west ballparks. his salary for the next few years is set anyway. And Jeff would probably be a lock to become a starter for the Pads, assuming that's what he wants to do. All in all though, I doubt Shark will be in the mix. I think he likes Chicago, which is a good thing. I think he should be a lock for our rotation... get Marquis the hell out of here. I don't see us keeping Dempster if we get Peavy, no way Demp puts up those numbers again next year. What in the world does Jason Marquis have to do to get people to stop hating him? He was probably the most effective 5th starter in baseball last year.
  6. If Shark not waiving his NTC costs us Jake Peavy, I'll hate him forever.
  7. So apparently this could be done by Monday? I'd love to have it over with.
  8. My sources at OH are telling me that John Mooers is the only thing standing in the way of Peavy becoming a Cub. It should be done any day now, though.
  9. I'd certainly deal Harden straight up for Peavy, but not much beyond that.
  10. Closing in makes it sound imminent.
  11. Sarcasm and elitism aside, I already made mention that the only reason I have personally to believe in Rich is the one season. That was kind of my point. Was that one season enough to convince people he can come back at equal or better value, or is he done? It was a simple question, and honestly your response pisses me off. Just really no need for the sarcastic attitude. It doesn't make you look good. If you believe that Rich's '07 is the only sign that he was any good then you're not going to be satisfied with anyone's response. Ok, well, would you be kind enough to give me other reasons? 99% of what I do know bout Rich came from that singular season. Then you're not well enough informed to be having a serious discussion about Rich Hill.
  12. Hoff is not a starting major league player.
  13. I'll go ahead and offer my rankings of the Big Ten cities I've been to. 1. Iowa City (that doesn't count since I go here) 2. Ann Arbor 3. Bloomington 4. Madison 5. Chambana ... 6. West Layfayette. That place sucks so frigging bad. I've been to Minneapolis, but it's not a college town, so I'm not ranking it.
  14. LF Soriano 1B Lee 3B Ramirez RF Dunn C Soto 2B DeRosa CF Fukudome SS Theriot That makes me really happy.
  15. If it's not Abreu, Dunn, or DeRosa (via a trade for Brian Roberts), I'd be very surprised. I'd put my money on Abreu, personally.
  16. I don't think this has been posted... http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/2008/10/23/2008-10-23_no_sweet_success_for_lou_piniella.html I'm glad Lou is doing the right thing here.
  17. I love Aramis, but he won an award for best offensive player in the whole league? Really?
  18. Man, this Wisconsin team is just terrible.
  19. Sutcliffe is just about my least favorite baseball TV personality.
  20. Honestly, as much as I love Woody, I have no interest in overpaying him. The pen will be fine.
  21. Sciambi. I didn't know Sciambi did color with Len. That had to be incredible. Boog is even better than Len. The Marlins media guide says Len was on TV and Boog was on radio, but I could swear i heard them do innings together on the radio when I lived in MIami. I could be wrong. Len was definitely the TV guy.
  22. Al Yellon at BCB seems to think so; I firmly believe that the Cubs and Kosuke Fukudome are going to reach an agreement that will allow both sides to, with face saved, get out of the remaining three years of the deal signed last year -- probably with several million dollars of buyout -- and Dome, who is deep in Lou's doghouse (and you all know that once there it's nearly impossible to get out), will return to Japan. Does anyone actually believe this could happen? I know I don't.
  23. Sutcliffe? Really? He's probably my least favorite announcer in baseball.
