  2. Again, Soriano is not a terrible defensive outfielder like everyone makes him out to be. His arm and decent range make up for his occasional misjudgments of flyballs.
  3. Doesn't Boras represent like 7 of the top 10 guys for this years draft? The Cubs might be lucky to have one of those guys fall to them if other teams are scared of the price tag. I remember the Weiters thing scaring teams and all, but he was going to get paid regardless he was the best college hitter in the draft and plays a premium position for offense. I do think Laporta signed a reasonable contract with the Brewers though. IIRC, the Cubs do have a good working relationship with Boras, correct? Just looking over the contracts a Cot's the Cubs don't have any current players, at least listed, that are represented by Boras. IDK who was the last Cubs was who was represented by Boras, but I never remember hearing anything about Boras/Cubs having any sort of issues. Z was a Boras client at one point, wasn't he?
  4. I honestly thought getting Jerome Williams was one of the best trades Hendry had made at the time. He seemed like someone who could be a solid starter for years. Not so much, I guess.
  5. I don't think it's fair to say Dunn and Lee will have equal production; Dunn should be better. I'd do your scenario in a heartbeat, but Jim Hendry almost certainly won't.
  6. The only thing he has that I like is Bradley hitting third. That's something that should happen but I don't expect. This is how I would do it assuming that Soriano's entrenched in the leadoff spot. Soriano Fukudome Bradley Ramirez Soto Lee Fontenot Theriot And I tend to agree with Meph; I think Fukudome will have somewhat of a resurgence. .280/.370./.440, or something along those lines.
  7. I think a lot of people have forgotten how good he was during the first half of last year. His walks were down (though his strikeouts were too) and he was pitching more efficiently than he ever had before. I believe he was second in all of baseball behind Dan Haren for pitchers' VORP at one point. Then the arm troubles started and his season kind of fell apart. Now everyone seems to have him penciled in for an ERA right under 4. Is that really what we should expect? Given that he had never had any significant arm troubles before, couldn't we expect him to perform much better now that he is theoretically healthy? I'm not saying he'll replicate what he did before the arm troubles (he was probably on pace for a top three finish in the Cy Young voting), but I think people aren't giving him a chance to be anything more than a decent starter. I don't think a 3.4ish ERA is unreasonable.
  8. I'm not doubting anyone, but where has it been said that Dunn is unwilling to move to first base? For some reason I was under the impression that he always wanted to move to first in Cincinnati but Sean Casey was in the way. Am I making that up?
  9. The only thing that confuses me is what suggests that Aramis is in decline. He had an excellent year last year. He'll slow down eventually, but I'm not sure what indicates that it's going to come "sooner than expected."
  10. Woody wasn't particularly important in 2007.
  11. There's probably 100's of examples of managers who led their teams to back to back division titles that are incompetent. I like Lou, but that's a poor argument.
  12. Indeed. So far, so good.
  13. Nothing if you like a station to station offense. Sounds like clogging the bases all over again. We should get some speedy guys like Juan Pierre.
  14. What's wrong with a Dye-Konerko-Thome middle of the order?
  15. Dunn would be a dream come true. I'd prefer him to anyone else mentioned this offseason, even Peavy.
  16. http://chicagocubsonline.com/archives/2008/12/rumorsnews1224.php#more Please be true.
  17. ...interested? What would it take to pry him? I'd love to buy low and give him the job in right field.
  18. Cashman has always said he no longer wanted to treat prospects exclusively as trading chips and the farm system as unimportant, not that he wanted to not spend a lot of money on free agents. The Yankees have remained committed to building one of the best farm systems in baseball and filling their roster with people from within the organization.
  19. I feel like this isn't the first time you've brought up Anderson's name. Definitely not a good idea.
  20. The Twins would do that in a frigging heartbeat. They'd think Jim Hendry was kidding, then they'd sign it.
  21. This sounds like Heyman completely making something up.
  22. I hope you weren't considering locking it. ***** TOMY23 4 EVA *****
