  1. Putting Kevin Gregg in a non-save situation is pretty much forfeiting anyways. You do realize Gregg hasn't pitched today, do you? I'm talking about the bottom of this inning Kevin Gregg in 2009: Save situations: 3.66 ERA Non-save situations: 2.92 ERA Ouch. Forfeit time.
  2. Who are the two minor leaguers we're trading in addition to Fontenot?
  3. Seriously? You're obviously trolling here. And it's bad if I'm defending Truffle. Wait what? I'm thinking you quoted the wrong post, especially given the mention of truffle...
  4. The Phanatic as batman was all kinds of awesome. Of course you say that right before my post. The Philly Phanatic isn't as cool as Green Man, but he's pretty sweet.
  5. isn't it funny how some people just come out of the woodwork when the cubs lose? no posts during the washington series but the cubs lose a game to the phillies and oh look, they're back. The Washington series shows nothing in any capacity. This series against a top team is quite different. I'll be standing at attention patiently, awaiting the moment the Cubs impress you.
  6. Wasn't that last year? And weren't we already comfortably ahead in the division? I mean, to my knowledge, we've never actually beaten the Phillies (or the Diamondbacks), but that's apparently what happened.
  7. isn't it funny how some people just come out of the woodwork when the cubs lose? no posts during the washington series but the cubs lose a game to the phillies and oh look, they're back. Such is the game threads, and such is the reason why I rarely visit them anymore. They're full of sensationalism and hackeyness.
  8. Our Bruce is on Twitter, no?
  9. I always liked Soriano before this year because I felt like he was giving full effort. Not so much anymore. His effort out there is appalling.
  10. Would've been nice to get some runs back. It's gonna be one of those nights, I guess.
  11. Yeah, Sherrill would be a nice addition, but they're looking for way too much for him. If they really want to deal him, and they should want to deal him, they'll lower those demands to something more reasonable.
  12. http://brewersbeat.mlblogs.com/archives/2009/07/hall_i_still_consider_myself_t.html Outstanding.
  13. Yes, those plain-ass white uniforms like those pirate ones that inari is hawking are terrible. just so boring. :(
  14. Don't be afraid of answering the Cubs if that's your real choice. It's not mine. Now that the Pirates don't have those stupid sleeveless jerseys, they get my nod without much hesitation: I wish they had success to match those awesome uniforms (and they were in the NL East while they did it). I'm sure Jake wouldn't mind.
  15. Eh, the point is, the talk of them possibly signing back on under the jolly roger didn't amount to anything. I don't think Freddy Sanchez will be a Cub by August 1st, but I doubt he'll be a Pirate.
  16. WTH is a "pure" hitter? It is the ability to hit for avg. What's pure about it? It's not tainted by base clogging and selfish rally-killing home runs.
  17. Quite frankly a four-game sweep, even against the Nationals, should never really be expected no matter what the other team involved is. It's very difficult to sweep a four game series, and the Cubs deserve a good deal of credit for doing so. Winning two of three in Philadelphia would obviously go quite a ways towards establishing a confidence that the Cubs can play with anyone. The players should already have it, but heck, I'd like to have it as a fan.
  18. Probably because every time I make a comment about how he sucks, or about how he is not a legit lead-off hitter, suddenly all the Soriano fans pop out of nowhere and defend him. Then again, this is a message board, so that tends to happen. Well saying he sucks is pretty much wrong, so should it be that surprising that someone would constantly come to argue against such a statement? I could say Jamie Foxx is an awesome rapper, but I'd expect someone to give me a slap in the face in the form of "hey, he actually sucks at rapping, and here's why..."
  19. Apparently both Sanchez and Jack Wilson have rejected contract offers by the Pirates.
  20. That's probably b/c they didn't know Fuld was available. We have enough CFs in the minors who can't hit, thank you very much. I didn't know that you were the Pirates' GM, thanks for that Jake was joking with me b/c I was clearly joking with him. There's no need for the snark. The internet is serious business.
  21. I have a hard time believing a guy with numbers like those will slip to us.
  22. I was going to say... is Jack Wilson like Adam Everett in his prime, where his defense was actually good enough to make him for having no bat at all? Or are the Pirates just stupid?
  23. http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090716&content_id=5896282&vkey=news_kc&fext=.jsp&c_id=kc http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/penato02.sht His OPS+ for the past three seasons; 66, 7, -32. Unbelievable that he's lasted this long. The Royals savior will be Yuniesky Betancourt. The fact that he's a significant upgrade over Pena doesn't mean that he's not terrible himself.
