  1. Iowa travels just as well if not better than PSU. The only debatable aspect is the TV ratings.
  2. In 2005 and 2006, his WHIP was damn near 1.5. Let me just ask you this. Since you are so adamant that a reliever is doing his job by not allowing runs no matter how many baserunners he gives up, is a closer doing his job by getting saves regardless of the amount of baserunners or runs he gives up?
  3. Real evidence of what? The guy didn't allow runs to score that you believe he should have or will. He now did it two years in a row, and at some point the excuse luck can't be the reason. In baseball there's no right answer or perfect systems. There's just opinions of what people think are the best. You gotta stop taking what you think is right as a fact because it's not. The fact that guys who perform better then what the "real evidence" says they should. Shows you that whatever system you think is the right answer is flawed. Year after year guys perform much better or much worse then the stat systems say they should. So like it or not but there is far from a perfect system. Look I'm a big stat guy and most of the time I agree with alot stat info people post on this board. But I also know alot of it's flawed so I'm not gonna disgard good results a guy gets in back to back seasons and call him crap because of some of the stat systems say he shouldn't be getting those results. I'm willing to say that Grabow's ERA given his peripherals being flukey is indeed a fact. If you were a "big stat guy," I assure you that you wouldn't have making these arguments. I don't know many of the advanced stats, but I do know what peripherals indicate and furthermore what simple logic indicates.
  4. This isn't an "opinion" thing going on right here. That's a copout excuse used when you can't support your argument or debunk the arguments of others using real evidence. Your argument is reminiscent of one that would argue for the value of saves.
  5. I'm sorry you find it embarrassing. I'm also sorry I factor in actual results of how many runs a guy allowed to score in the innings he pitched. I saw all the fangraph stats and I saw his WHIP, and the walks per inning and strike out stats. But none of that tells me why Grabow has gotten such good results when it comes to letting runs score two years in a row. Baseball is a game played by humans not computers, so there's human factors in things. I don't buy that Grabow just got lucky two years in a row. Or understand if he allows so many guys on base. Then why does he not do it when he comes into games with guys on base? So find this or that embarrassing or call me names all you want. There's no perfect stat systems in baseball and no perfect way to say why something was successful or not. So until then I'm sometimes gonna factor in results even if some stats say to disgard those results. I know alot of people on this board are set in there ways when it comes to some stats, but that doesn't mean I gotta agree with it. "Science" might say that gravity is the reason that things tend to fall towards the ground if they are dropped out of my hand, but that doesn't mean I gotta agree with it!
  6. How long will it be flukey and unsustainable? Is it still flukey if Grabow has simliar era's the next two years? Like I said before there becomes a time when something isn't a fluke anymore. Would Grabow be the first reliever with simliar stats to not have a good run of success in baseball? Yes I know most of the time it is, but not always. Thats why there is no perfect stats to say how good or bad a guy is. Yes, yes, yes. Assuming his peripheral stats are the same, anyway.
  7. How many runs did he allow score when he pitched? That doesn't matter? Plus the fact that when he came into games with runners on base he pitches very well as well. For whatever reason he seems to focus much more when guys are on base. I don't know how to explain it but worked for him. Doing it one season might be a fluke in my eyes, but doing it two years in a row tells me something else. It may tell you something, but it shouldn't. It's flukey and unsustainable. Putting IMO at the end doesn't excuse arguments that are based on flimsy and irrelevant arguments.
  8. I'm sure Hendry doesn't want to take a chance on the team until Blanco/Castro proves they can hit consistently at the ML level. If Marmol gets back in the groove, you would be creating quite a hole on the ML roster to protect Vitters. Theriot or Marmol in a smaller package (one other player) might be okay for Granderson, but some of the posts were suggesting a 4-player package with Theriot and/or Marmol. Theriot and Marmol simply aren't comparable entities. It's not an interchangeable thing. If adding in Theriot to any package is what got us Granderson, I probably wouldn't have a problem with it.
  9. Yeah, not sure why anyone would be opposed to trading Theriot.
  10. If by a better Derosa you mean a worse Bradley, then yes. Yeah, that comparison doesn't hold any weight either.
  11. Let's not make this any longer than it has to be and say Granderson isn't like Soriano and strikeouts don't really matter that much.
  12. This is a completely wasted season. I hope we forfeit our bowl bid.
  13. Depressing.
  14. Iowa State fans have to be happy with what's gone on with the program this year.
  15. Argh. That was a great play by Pryor.
  16. Took me a minute to register that that was actually a touchdown! GO HAWKS!
  17. we should be winning and it [expletive] sucks Why should we be winning? Stross dropped a TD pass, a pass that continues a drive (a drive which OSU scored a TD afterwards because of missed tackles on a run), we had the ball inside their ten and missed a field goal. Also just had a 3rd and 1 go to 3rd and 6 on the false start. Essentially everyone but Vandenberg looks rattled on offense. That's really disappointing. Hopefully we can overcome the mistakes, because it'd really be a shame to let a good effort by Vandy go by.
  18. we should be winning and it [expletive] sucks Why should we be winning?
  19. My life is awful. I've missed most of this game for a baby shower. Now tuning in at my apartment. I'm glad Vandy the Mandy has played well so far.
  20. I think that's a little harsh. Would anyone here seriously not deal either one of those guys for Granderson straight up? I honestly wouldn't trade either of them, probably. I'm not overrating our prospects, I just think that Granderson is tremendously overrated.
  21. I think the Iowa game will be close simply because the defense is going to make Pryor look bad. I have no faith that Iowa will score points unless they're given the ball with fantastic field position.
  22. This can't be what you meant.
  23. I am flat out depressed about Iowa. The Stanzi injury had to be one of the most season changing moments in college football this year.
  24. Yes. thats exactly what I meant. Dont try to get Halladay because I dotn want to read about it. Im just saying that if they really think theres a chance of it happening, go for it, and hope for a quick process one way or another. That's really not at all what you said.
