    Before last season, didn't pretty much everyone always say that Bradley was a good teammate and well liked in the clubhouse? Link to this? All I've heard was that Kinsler, Hamilton, Young, etc. would have led a mutiny if Bradley came back to Texas last year. Either you're making that up or you're misremembering.     Not really. He's fairly accurate. The only requirement for making the HOF ballot is 10 years of service time. Since the ballot isn't flooded year after year, the vast majority of guys don't accumulate 10 years of service time. I'd say that's not every player isn't it? Your average professional baseball player certainly won't have an eight year career in the majors, so I'll stand by "pretty much every player." Those that actually get eight years of MLB experience are the exception, not the rule.

    I seem to recall some old adage that might be applicable here. Something about books and covers? Nah, I'm probably way off. I get that. It just caught me off-guard. I know! It always surprises me when those coloreds end up at Ivy League schools too! Kids these days.

    Ok, thanks. Nomar was still the overall better player with the Reds Sox, it would appear. Clearly not since the Red Sox won the World Series. FYI.

    That may be the dumbest thing I ever read....My Mom from Wheaton and a stone Cub fan, Dad from St' Louis and an insane Card fan. They split when I was 11.....Mom had me exept for the summer and Christmas. Put your self in my place.....and it's not like the Cubs and Cards have ever been in the hunt in late Sept together anyway! One or the other. I really don't understand the hatred Cub fans have for the Cards. Ditto the reverse ....I look at the history and I don't see it. Exault in your pure whacked out hatred, and I will root for whomever I want.....is that OK??? Ok I'm putting myself in your place, which is basically my place since my mom is a diehard Cubs fan and my dad is a Cards fan who was going to World Series games at Busch I. I turned out ok as far as my baseball fandom.

    They may not have put them over the top, but they did fill holes that Boston needed to fill since defense was a major concern that year. Without those two players (and Dave Roberts), I seriously doubt Boston wins the WS in 2004. 2004 UZR/150: Nomar: -15.8 Cabrera: -2.3 2004 OPS: Nomar: .842 Cabrera: .689 Was the defensive difference between the two enough to make up for the offensive gap? I doubt it. Yeah, you can throw all of these new age stats at me all you want, (you might as well be speaking Farsi), the fact is the Red Sox were a better TEAM after Nomar then they were with Nomar. Enough so the Red Sox felt they needed to make that trade. Did they actually lose out on the trade, not one bit. OPS is a new age stat?

    exactly. Which is why I hate "average" sports fans. I'm actually envious of the average fan. Everytime the Cubs lose my day is ruined, whenever UK loses in b-ball my week is ruined. Even though i realize if the cubs lose 62 games it was the best season I have ever witnessed i still live and die on every win and loss. Sometimes I wish i was just an "average" fan. That doesn't make you a diehard fan, that makes you unable to control your emotions at all/unable to put things perspective. It's not something to be proud of.

    What's so prestigious about Iowa basketball? Purdue has always been the other team in Indiana and haven't done too well on the recent success front. Iowa's a top ten program in the history of college basketball. :-)) Take it up with Sagarin. Take it up with common sense. Top ten? Come on.

    As you said, "most" fans & "most" criticism...The ignorant hate spewed about Shark's potential & success is so contrary to fact it reeks of the aforementioned agenda. The subsequent rage against me for pointing this out is telling as well, lol. I didn't mean to get anyone upset, it's tough times out there. If hatin' on millionaire professional athletes helps them with their problems, so be it. If people actually are interested in Shark's situation, just read up on what he's been doing since the end of last season. What did he work on with Rothschild?!? What 4 pitches is he working on with 1 of them being unhittable in his last start for the Cubs & in Mexico?!? What were players saying about that have seen him in the majors & in the MWL?!? Couple all this with his extraordinary potential, newusername & all Cub fans certainly have legitimate hope that Shark can be a quality major league pitcher If Jeff Samardzija has "extraordinary" potential, what the hell did Kerry Wood or Mark Prior have?

    Oh yeah, Samardzija still has a good chance at success. Ignore the complaints seen in this thread about him. The complaining reeks of an agenda... No matter how much Samardzija's success in 2008 at AAA & the majors bother some fans, he had that success. He just turned 25 & this will only be his 4th season as a full time pitcher( note: he's probably the best WR in the city of Chicago ). He has an outstanding arm & is developing off speed pitches. After his successful 2008, players made an adjustment to his heat. He struggled with those adjustments last year. Reports are he made big strides in his development with his off speed pitches. We'll see how accurate those reports are shortly. Weather it be in Chicago or Iowa, I hope he gets 30+ starts this year. If this happens we'll know a lot more about his future. If he can develop 1 good pitch he'll make a lot of money as a reliever. If he develop 2 or more pitches, he'll make a lot of money as a starter. His success in 2008 wasn't something sustainable and his "success" in 2009 made that pretty clear.
