  1. Jones isn't going anywhere, so scratch that idea. I'd love to see Lee and Soriano hitting for the team, but I think it would work best, given who is running this team, with Lee in LF and Soriano playing 2nd again. wow, if you thought walker was a poor defensive 2b . . .
  2. why would we care if the astros got him for the rest of the year? hell, with some luck they would then sign him to a huge extension.
  3. How do the A's keep winning ? I mean, they are so young and inexperienced, they don't play small ball, and they have guys on pitch counts. It makes no sense. Great pitching in a terrible division will do that for you. That's all they have-their offense is only marginally better then ours for the year. I think that's about right. That is a terrible division to hit in too so the pitching/hitting gets a little skewed. The A's have almost caught the Yankees now though and could end up hosting a first round series. They have been fairly dominant in recent weeks though. They've also won 15 straight games against Seattle.
  4. you can sub for him.
  5. it all boils to all of them realizing they failed to bury the A's when they had the chance.
  6. I think it was proven the night before that in this scenario, you leave the young pitcher in.
  7. when zambrano takes care of himself like clemens, then maybe we can start to think about comparing them. one exception also does not prove a rule. even if the risk to zambrano is only 1 percent - why would you take a chance in a meaningless game? its indefensible.
  8. a month too late on the Z trade jigman - could have commanded a ransom in july.
  9. I don't think so! last I checked, I was being outscored by Jimmy Rollins so far this week. :( go Jimmy!
  10. Everyone is over-reacting. 120 pitches for Zambrano is not a big deal. 120 pitches for Wood is a big deal. This idea of a fixed pitch count ceiling for all pitchers without regard for the specific pitcher is silly. Did you miss the part about him "tightening up between innings?" This is incredibly stupid whether you believe in pitch counts or not. why would you risk your lone remaining ace in a meaningless game? I find your defense of baker shocking.
  11. "that is the worst idea I ever heard." "yes this is a terrible idea" making a pitcher with command issues a reliever is not a good idea in my opinion. let him pitch multiple innings on a regular basis. then if he shows limited effectiveness beyond 2 or 3 innings, make him a closer.
  12. and what noise does a nasty m make? mmmmmm, doughnuts!
  13. As much as I touted him in the past, there comes a point when being away from the game too long has an impact. With his age and time from the game, I still think he can do well, just that he won't be given a chance. IMO, Hershiser is the best potential candidate out there for manager. I don't like Hershiser if what he says while doing broadcasts is any indiction of what kind of manager he would be. totally agree. no on hershiser
  14. You can't really judge them on their limited major league totals. However, you can look at minor leaue totals. Theriot, while always being old for his league has career numbers of .265 .355 .331 While the OBP is solid, the slugging leaves much to be desired. Those are his 5 previous seasons, not including this year. Cedeno, while being young for his leagues has career numbersof .265 319 .376 Obviously the OBP leaves MUCH to be desired. With his slightly higher SLG, his OPS edges Theriot .692 to .686. As 2B I don't see either of these guys being anything other than career backups. Cedeno has had one great season(between AAA and MLB) one decent season (AA) and everything else has been bad. Theriot, while showing great plate discipline for the past 4 years has never really had acceptable SLG numbers other than last year at AA. With the right coach and a switch back to SS, Cedeno could become a starter. Unless Theriot develops power next year at the age of 27, hes just a backup. Fotenot's minor league numbers make him look capable of being a .800 OPS player. He has been a AAA player for three years now and will like Theriot be 27 next season. Maybe he's the best 2B prospect of the three, but he needs to be given a chance soon. Maybe they will all just brige the gap for Patterson, but he has not lived up to the hype of last year. I would take Theriot's obp over Ronny's SLP personally - if he can play SS. There is absolutely no reason not to play Fontenot now and see what happens. This organization is ridiculous in its failure to evaluate young players. They may all be backups, but they are no worse than neifi or izturis.
  15. two teams scored over 320 and lost this week.
  16. GHS can clinch the east with a win over buddiga. nsbb needs two wins to clinch. trotsky's shocking win keeps him alive for the last playoff spot. I believe Quakers clinched the final playoff spot in the west despite losing this week.
  17. mine - I wasn't home.
  18. no I've got 3 QS to your 2
  19. ok, will process at 6:48
  20. yea, and you need to make up about 50 points . . . so unless millwood throws a no-no, I don't think you're going to get there. I'm going to score about 105 today. not sure where all this pitching came from.
  21. not so fast guy . . .
  22. MESSAGE SENT - did your boys receive it there Al?
  23. yea, the four of them should be good for 20-25 points. hafner on the other hand, you should worry about. cough cough cough . . . hafner nearly matched mauer's week in the first inning today . . . this is a good matchup as I've pulled back ahead but you've got two pitchers still to go today. hopefully our playoff matchup will be as much fun!
  24. unlike the Cubs, that group has a future.
