  1. Trying to play with the after effects of a concussion, it's obvious something' not right, took himself out the game last night. Illini fans dumping all over the kid, let them try and play with lingering effects from a concussion. Fortunately, I've never experienced a concussion, heard from others who have and many say it took several weeks to feel right again. or months. years.
  2. I can see the vidal comparisons.
  3. Gio's back! https://www.espn.com/soccer/club/_/id/124
  4. https://www.espn.com/soccer/blog-espn-fc-united/story/4506053/espn-fc-100-messilewandowskioblak-among-no-1s-premier-league-has-most-representatives Fun stuff to argue about. As usual, successful teams are over-represented (how does City have two right backs on the list?). The center backs are the furthest off in my view - too much living in the past.
  5. https://www.si.com/soccer/2021/11/28/weston-mckennie-injury-knee-juventus-atalanta-usmnt Good news on McKennie.
  6. Portugal isn't that good tho, right? They are pretty talented.
  7. so, its still based on ranking? I thought they were moving to something based on where you qualify? It's interesting that there don't really seem to be truly dominant teams going into this world cup. Italy won the Euros and now may not make the world cup - that's amazing. Brazil and Argentina are good but not unbeatable. Germany is in a down cycle. England is over-rated as always. Seems like this field is ripe for a cinderella run.
  8. Italy and Portugal drawn together so one of them misses World Cup 2022. Hard to believe.
  9. Honestly, getting several Europa league games instead of going out in the round of 16 is probably better for Barcelona at this point. Get more experience, maybe build some confidence. I thought they played well yesterday - just lack scoring impetus. Getting Fati and Dembele healthy at the same time and getting a 9 better than Memphis would sure help. Dest came on as a left wing for the last 20 or so. Hate hate hate Pulisic as a 9. Why would we want him there? Need Pulisic running at defenders.
  10. tonight's game's result is probably more psychologically important than decisive. I imagine the US really wants to make sure to win at Jamaica
  11. lol lol! That was me!
  12. the rumor mill has Barca bringing back Dani Alves - this is interesting. I doubt Alves proves much of a playing time threat to Dest but he could be a great mentor (one of the greatest ball crossers of all time).
  13. I wonder what the data on teenagers playing with men is on injuries - maybe their bodies just aren't ready? I have no data but you have to wonder because a lot of 17 and 18 year olds haven't added the muscle mass yet (not that soccer is a high mass sport but there is certainly an element of strength)
  14. Gio out indefinitely after setback
  15. https://www.espn.com/soccer/soccer-transfers/story/4513446/usmnt-goalkeeper-zack-steffen-signs-new-manchester-city-deal-until-2025 Interesting decision
  16. probably not but do you think every team says this?
  17. Blatter and Platini charged? Say it ain't so! https://www.espn.com/soccer/fifa-world-cup/story/4511778/sepp-blattermichel-platini-indicted-on-fraud-charges
  18. I took my daughter to the Mexico-Chile match at Levis during Copa America. It was pretty gross. I'm not sure their fans are any worse than average American football (or other sports) fans but I actually wished I hadn't brought my daughter. on a separate note, Levis is horrible. Never go there.
  19. he's back https://www.espn.com/soccer/chelsea-engchelsea/story/4511342/christian-pulisic-available-for-chelseas-champions-league-clash-after-return-from-injury
  20. Koeman fired - we'll see what it means for Dest.
  21. Chelsea survived the penalty shootout in their league cup (or whatever it's called now) game yesterday - barely. Given that competition is often used to give playing time to players that aren't regulars or to ease back injured players and that Pulisic wasn't even in the selection, I wouldn't get my hopes up. I'm going off Tuchel's comments rather than speculating based on a yesterday's game.
  22. I am willing to bet these attitudes and bigotry are pervasive in many sports teams.
  23. Story after story exposing the culture of athletics in the US. None of it is very surprising sadly.
  24. Looks like Gio won't be back for November window. Pulisic maybe back soon? I hope CP doesn't make challenges like the one he got injured on going forward.
  25. He did at least have a nice assist at the end. But yeah that was Wondo-esque he's playing well but his crosses and finishing need improvement (to meet Barca standards - or perceived standards anyway)
