  1. I don't quite understand that? Howe would that work? Would Japan then go? if the US wins, we go. if mexico wins, japan goes. unless mexico wins 1-0.

  3. I don't quite understand that? Howe would that work? Would Japan then go? they must know - cantu just eliminated them. and the bad call no longer matters. they needed to win 3-0 in 13 innings to advance.
  4. not to mention seton hall
  5. ironically, had mexico won the argument, they would have been eliminated.
  6. not to mention you can make a roster move after the season starts - like say putting rusch on the DL and calling up another pitcher.
  7. Really? I can tell by the pbp that he is pitching very poorly. apparently he can't hold baserunners either. fortunately for him vladdy swings at everything.
  8. Boston sucked on defense. It is interesting, though, that the Red Sox acquired Dave Roberts and Doug Mientkiewicz to help them with speed and defense down the stretch. they got Roberts to steal 2nd of course! :D
  9. April is worrisome. Too bad, since -- other than Florida -- it's all divisional play. hopefully the wind howls in daily.
  10. I'm still waiting for his talent to shine. I mean basically he hasn't shown anything but a above average to great curve ball. I know he's only got 20 innings under his belt in the bigs, but I can't see how in the world you are going to be an effective starter with 1 pitch. He blew Vlad away with two FB's up in the zone. Big deal! He still gave up 2 runs in the first inning. Can you honestly say Rich Hill has impressed you. At all? 190+ k's in 130 minor league innings is pretty impressive. but apparently you're basing your judgment on what he's done since 2:00 today... Hill has not been impressive at all - he is exactly right that his lack of command will kill him,
  11. I would agree that good teams generally have good pitching. they also generally have good offense. you see, you need both! the idea is to outscore your opponent. that means you score more with your offense than they score against your pitching and defense.
  12. and with rusch, williams, maddux and hill in the rotation, you need someone that can hit the freaking ball. damn it, hill...4-2. Defense and pitching wins. hey, if the cliche sounds good, it must be true. It's not a Cliche and you know it's true. Look at any world series winner the past 3-4 years and you will see Solid D and Great pitching. lets see how far back we have to go - Boston 2004 - shaky defense, decent pitching, great offense.
  13. Partial sigh of relief - I'll wait for the MRI. come to think of it, I'll wait until I see him pitching - I don't buy the conspiracy theory but . . . Prior is soft - LOL! Sounds like Acosta! Ignore that pain in your shoulder Mark. Give me a break!
  14. Senior Circuit (I'm guessing on some of you!) Quakers NSBB Fuzzy Logistics NCCubbies Danger Bees Lynx Fishbulbs The rest of you I am not sure of as I think most of you are in your 20s - sounds like DJ and Shane may be the next two oldest? Who am I forgetting?
  15. I'm guessing that yours is a pretty unique bracket. I like your style, though. I'm boring, UConn-Villanova-Texas-Memphis, with Villanova winning. And Gonzaga goes down earlier, I think they're more overrated than Tennessee. Good luck to everyone! I'm with you on Gonzaga - unless Morrison goes Manning on the field, they will be out early. They've gone from underrated to vastly overrated.
  16. We'll just have to disagree on this one, Goony. Starters aren't in full season form at the beginning of the year. Letting Zambrano throw 120 pitches in the first few weeks is just asking for trouble. When did I ask him to do it? 7 relievers is more than enough to eat up the innings caused by early departures. 2 off-days in 4 days makes it all that much easier, and the third 3 days later is the icing. If you have a guy who can do the job, great. But don't reserve a spot for a pitcher who would not be used otherwise. That's when you end up going with 8 relievers and completely wasting roster spots. I have to agree with goony. History has shown that when given 12 pitchers, Dusty will let 1 or 2 of them go a full week without pitching while others will pitch everyday. The answer is more efficient use of the pen not more pitchers.
  17. the wind seldom blows out in april - not sure what makes you think it does. when its cold, the wind blows in. in summertime the prevailing west and south winds blow out.
  18. maybe we should re-align the divisions as oldies and newbies!
  19. It would be a three way tie again and I don't see how the US could win that tiebreaker. As Brian said if we lose a 1-0 shutout we'll get in due to giving up 4 runs vs. Japan's 5. oh, thats right - the korea game doesn't count.
  20. No, we'd both be 1-2, so the tiebreaker would be head to head, which we of course would lose. japan is also 1-2
  21. if we lose 1-0 I Believe, with our pitching that is believable. is that right? Hopefully the US just hits for a change!
  22. It would be a three way tie again and I don't see how the US could win that tiebreaker.
