  1. I say NO to Zito because he will command too much money and IMO not worth it for a 3.5era pitcher. I would love to have Schmidt but only for a 2 year deal which is unlikely. I would like to see Lilly to be honest. Z, Hill, Lilly, Guzman, Prior/Mateo/Marmol/Marshall Yeah, it's not the best rotation but it might work out. zito has a career 3.54 era in the AMERICAN LEAGUE. his career era+ is 129, quite worthy of whatever contract he is offered. He's going to command about 15 million per year. No way in the world is he worth that. He's not an "elite" pitcher. Plus, he's not going to come to Chicago. It's not even worth discussing. you know this for a fact, or are you just speculating? he's 28, has 101 big league wins, a 129 era+ and not an "elite" pitcher? Yes. Zito will get 15 a year. Boston will need to spend to get themselves out of the Beckett trade fiasco, and the Yankees simply don't care what they spend as long as they get the player they want. It will be a massive bidding war.

Even if you have to tack on a 3rd year for Schimdt I'd do it. Sadly I think Schmidt has already booked his first class ticket to Seattle. He would not be a bad move at all. Injury-wise I think he will stay healthy simply because it appears he is relying on his fastball less and phsyically he appears in top shape
  3. A FREAKIN MEN! Probably the best Cubs article I have ever read. While the OBP issue is real, I think hendry has already addressed the Wood/Prior concern. I have heard/read him note several times this season that he takes responsibility for not proprely stacking the starting rotation and that he needs reliability in the rotation. I expect him to enter 2007 with 8 viable starters ready to go, one of which will be a long man (probably Rusch, ugh) and the other two in AAA waiting for an injury replacement call-up. I will believe it when I see it. As of now I am convinced that he will count on Prior as his #2 guy going into 07. While I don't want to throw Prior under the bus(simply because it makes no sense to dump a player when his stock has hit rock bottom aka Corey Patterson), he should be at the most a #4 option at this point. #5 would be a even smarter move.
  4. It seems any deal with the Marlins is a risk now. They are winning every stinking trade of late. It's simply amazing.
  5. but at least the Red Sox will spend and spend to make up for this mistake.
  6. Sanchez has no-hitter; Red Sox have no clue Ken Rosenthal / FOXSports.com Posted: 1 hour ago Anibal Sanchez, Bronson Arroyo, Cla Meredith. Three right-handed pitchers the Red Sox have traded in the past 10 months. --------------------------------------- Please see the FAQ Forum for the Guidelines on posting copyrighted materials.
  7. Cub fans were doubting Woods health in March I posted on another MB in March of 2006 that Wood would have a season ending injury in June. Tell me how is that hindsight?
  8. Many Cubs fans highy doubted Wood would be healthy for all of 2006. And were did they get the estimate that Miller would be ready by May/June? Where they smoking drugs for crying out loud? He just made it back a week ago and his arm is a shell of what it used to be. So if they would have opened their eyes that wood/miller were complete crap shoots in 06...they might have seen that the rotation would be extremely vunerable. Had they gone out and got a Millwood or Rodgers would this team be still terrible this year? Probably. But I am just using the rotation planning for 2006 as a sample of how incompetent Hendry is. add in other misfires as so well pointed out in Bruce Mile's artice today... and it should suprise noone why this organization is in shambles.
  9. Problem is, Hendry is always banking on this. Always.
  10. I wouldn't count on Mark Prior to be in the rotation next year. Oh...but Jim will. Not only will he be counted on in the rotation, but he will be Jimmy's #2 guy behind big Z. I wouldn't mind counting on him as a #4 or #5, perferably a #5.
  11. A FREAKIN MEN! Probably the best Cubs article I have ever read.
  12. I just want Padilla for his bean balls  I doubt he is pegging guys should he return to the NL and have to bat.
  13. It's a complete valid Hendry gripe IMO. He used a completly "best case scenario" gameplan Zambrano would be healthy and effective Prior would be healthy and effective Wood would return by May and Williams put toghether a full consistent major league season, something he had never done before. Hendry never prepares for the worst, never had a backup plan. Truly a "cowboy" IMO. If you have 3 healthy good starters in that rotation, then by all means take a shot on a Jerome Williams, but if you rotation is full of ?'s, don't add another one.
  14. Rich Hill is really making me fall off the "Sign Barry Zito" bandwagon. mainly because: A. I think the pitching hungry Red Sox/Yankees will push his tag near 15mil B. Arguably the #1 prospect now in the minors(Veal) is a lefty, and I don't know how a rotation of 3 lefty's would fair. Here is how I would assemble the 07 staff Zambrano Vincente Padilla Rich Hill Mark Prior Marshall
  15. Not signing Beltran was a massive failure by the organization. Granted they were eating the Sosa contract but they were also loosing a ton of power in the OF(Sosa & Alou). I dont understand why Hendry, MacPhail, Tribune board of directors couldn't have found a way to either absorb extra money for Beltran, or maybe struture the deal to the big $$$ kicked in after Sosa's contract was completly gone.
  16. exactly. Yeah you would have had to overpay for Furcal, but you would have made the money back out of the contributions from Nolasco and maybe Pinto. Oh well...looks like the Marlins screwed the BoSox even worse.
  17. I would get Prior healthy(a new coaching staff should help), get him back there on the mound, let him throw up some good numbers, then deal him if I can get the right pieces back.
  18. Hendry simply can't plan on having Cedeno be the starting 2Bman next season. Oh he can. This is the same guy that planned on having Jerome Williams as the #4 starter based on a 3 month anomoly in 2005. Anomaly? I guess when he was even better than that as a rookie three years ago that was an anomaly, too? Williams sucked because he lost velocity, not because his past performance was some illusion. He was extremely inconsistent as a Giant too. The Giants couldn't wait to dump him on us for Hawkins who was just terrible at the time. His stuff was never overpowering and considering that our #3 starter was on the declining stages of his career(Maddux) relying on willams was a complete misfire.
  19. about 2-3, if I am not mistaken. Then he dished out nearly 7 mil combined to neifi/rusch in 06. He could have locked up Furcal. Kept CPatt(and Nolasco/Pinto to boot) and we would be in alot better situation.
  20.  I peed my pants after his 10th K tonight.

  22. I'm guessing they took a previous documentry they had on hell and purgutory and threw in some Cub cuts.
  23. Please tell me your kidding right? I really dont' feel like dropping my laundry list right now...there is probably only so much space on the server. I am kinda rethinking that when I consider signing Jones to a 3 year deal, and the unbelievable salaries he gave Rusch and Neifi. Maybe I am putting myself in the running for the "Nut Hair" award. Hendry does have some "wheeling n' dealing" skills. I will admit that. I was most impressed with the Nomar deal where he got Nomar(and Murton to boot) for some no-names. But he has been simply swining n' missing of late. Not to mention sipping on the Wood/Prior kool-aid the Rush, Neifi contracts. and so on. He will have one offseason to fix this mess...let's see how he works under fire.
