  1. I have no problem with people disliking my opinions. bottom line:(my opinion) Hendry is the worst GM in baseball by far The need to start spending more to get some quality players, if it means overspending fine. Whats the cost of overspending in baseball? Fitszimmons doesn't get that bonus trip to the bahama's. There is no way in hell though I would give 100+ million to hendry to spend. He needs to be fired and a compentant GM brought in. thats it, thats my view..if people don't like it..fine.
  2. Here's what he did as a Cub in 2001 .217/ .320/ .364 in 258 ABs GM jr was an ok 4th OF and very good defensively as a Cub, which is a lot different than "pretty terrible". So you don't consider batting 217 with a 320 OBP and a 364 sluggin% terrible? wow.
  3. You consider my logic wrong probably because part of you still believes in Hendry and the Hendry philosophy. Did you even read more than the first couple lines in my original post earlier, or do you just select bits and pieces that give you something to attack? You consider that an attack yet you are the one that says "your philosophy is just wrong" You don't know if my philosophy is wrong. It may be it may be not. I don't think its too much of a stretch to say this team would be alot better today if it had Furcal at SS, and Nolasco in the rotation.
  4. They are a bunch of garbage fans. The only way to get that place even 1/2 full would be to allow the sale of drugs, and plastic surgery inside the stadium.
  5. You consider my logic wrong probably because part of you still believes in Hendry and the Hendry philosophy. Never overpay for a quality player, but overpay for a mediocre guy. Thanks to that philosophy we get the Jeromy Burnit'z and Jacque Jone's of the world, not the Beltrans.
  6. for Option 1 I think the Matthews family has worn out their welcome here in chi town. Matthews Sr. managed to lose his job to Gene Clines of all people. and Jr was pretty terrible his first time around here. I think this season is simply an abberation combined with some extra effort to get himself a contract he doesn't deserve. otherwise its a pretty good plan.
  7. Yeah. That just ticks me off. I'll say this THE TRIBUNE COMPANY DOESN'T DESERVE US AS FANS! I hate everyone of them. Fitszimmons, McDonough, MacPhail. I hate you guys. You have one of the best fanbases in all of sports and you treat them like crap. Carma sucks guys....just remember that.
  8. Then turned around and gave near 7 million in combined contracts to Neifi and Rusch. Is Furcal overpaid yes. But he could have overpaid for Furcal and locked up the leadoff position for a few years, and kept 2 good arms. Instead he took the money he saved on Furcal and flushed it down the toilet. Now it appears they are going try to re-sign Pierre who will command a contract near that of Furcal plus they will need to spend money on another starter for the rotation. If they still had Nolasco he could have filled this roll at a bargain price. Hendry only thinks 1 move at a time. He would lose to a 2nd grader in a game of chess.
  9. That is an interesting note on Beltran. Thank you for posting that. I have stated before that not getting Beltran after the 04 season was of the greatest mistakes by Cubs brass over the past few seasons. They knew they were loosing a ton of production in the OF with Alou leaving via FA, and Sosa beign excommunicated from Chicago. Granted Lee picked up ton of slack power wise at 1B vs what was there in 2003 and prior to that. But Beltran would have provided immediate stabliity to that OF. There is no reason why the front office couldn't have ate some more $$$, and/or they could have worked the deal for the big dollars to set in after the Sosa deal was off the books.
  10. what's Hendry's salary? I'm sure they wound't care about eating his salary if they had to fire him. Hendry won't get fired because he is MacPhail's pet. MacPhail won't get fired because he is the Tribune's pet. The all kiss each other's rear ends and there is no acccountablity. It sucks being a cubs fan.
  11. If we don't re-sign Aram I want: Schmidt AND Daisuke
  12. Provided Aram is re-signed, I would like them to get Scott Moore some work in the OF. Then in 07 he can replace John Maybe, who is simply wortless at the plate.
  13. Won't matter this year. Most of the tickets have been sold already. Trib has their cash and they could care less.
  14. I also heard a rumor that the sky is blue. can someone confirm.
  15. At this point I don't even think Hendry and Mc-Failure can show their faces at the February convention.
  16. =D> What's pathetic is that Bruce isn't some genius who came up with this on his own - a lot of us have been saying it as well. It's pretty mind-boggling that so many people can realize what is wrong with the Cubs, yet the people in charge of the Cubs do not. It's also mind-boggling that of all the columnists in Chicago, Bruce seems to be the only one with any sense. Like the guy who went overboard with his praise of the Izturis trade. Come on, how can that guy be a professional sports reporter? Well...the Tribune writers are simply puppets for MacPhail and Hendry. Paul Sullivan tried the critical route...but was chastized by Cubs management. As for the Sun Times...IMO 90% of Kiley's stuff is gargabe. Plus they pretty much put all their time into covering the Sox. Mariotti(excuse me while I throw up) probably gets on the Cubs the best over there. But he is still a windbag.
  17. I really think counting on Prior as a #3 is risking it. 4 or 5 IMO.
  18. Jim Hendry is dancing in the halls of the Tribune building. This will be his marquee dumpster diving signing for 07.
  19. I agree. server space cost $$$. Then you should probably stop doing so... ;) Will do. I'll hold off till I can comment on the the mistakes he will make this offseason.
  20. I agree. server space cost $$$.
  21. Management will sign some recently injured star (Mark Mulder for example) at a discount along with other slightly above average FA's and put a positive spin on it. The Tribsters are masters at the art of deception. The flock will follow... Yep. Maybe they will drop in a Jose Guillen too. I mean once upon a time he did hit 294 with 27HR's  Jimmy's been missing the dart board for two years...simple statistics say he would eventually hit the board again.
  22. No. I think Hendry under-estimated his value though. If he new that Nolasco was not only big-league ready, but could win 10+ games would he have dealt him for Pierre who only had 1 year left on his contract and would command an extremely over-valued new deal? I certainly hope not. I don't expect clairvoyancy. But with 95 milliion in ammo I expect a team that is better than 27 games below .500.
  23. I agree. I think too often people evaluate pitchers just on wins/losses/era. While those stats are very important, the durability factor must be considered. Call me crazy, but I don't think a guy like Jon Garland is overpaid. Is he dominant #1 starter? Probably not. But he takes the ball every 5th day. Eats innings, and gives your team a chance to win. Injuries to young arms are happening league wide. Its just not a Cubs problem. A guy that can throw "his stuff" year in and year out without tearing up a shoulder, or elbow is a very valuable commoidity.
  24. Cub fans were doubting Woods health in March I posted on another MB in March of 2006 that Wood would have a season ending injury in June. Tell me how is that hindsight? Because Hendry had to make his personnel decisions from Oct-Jan I don't think anything was different regarding Wood in March vs Oct-Jan. They knew he was a ? to start the season. Am I not allowed to hold our GM to a higher standard? Yes hindsite is 20/20. And its easy for us as fans to point figures and say what if. But Hendry is a professional making easily over 6 figures. So when something goes wrong whether it be the rotation, or not correctly evualuation a prosect like Rick Nolasco, I will hold them accountable. Hindsight I would have traded Nolasco for Pierre to this offseason. But I also don't have in depth access to the minor league system. I'm not talking with coaches, scouts, etc. Obviously Flordia saw something that everyone in the Cubs organization just flat out missed.
  25. I'm still on the Padilla bandwagon. He isn't far off in terms of talent vs. Zito and Schmidt IMO. I think his numbers are skewed because he pitches in a hitters park. His road numbers are significatly better on the road at home. If he comes back to the NL I see no reason why he can't win b/t 13-15 games with an ERA in the mid to upper 3's. The only thing you have to consider is that he hasn't been the most healthy pitcher over the course of his career. I think he will get lost in the shuffle of the Zito, Schmidt, Damasio(sp?) signings, so maybe the Cubs can get Padilla at b/t 6-8mil per season.
