  1. I just found this over at 1060 West: This guy needs to get off his "high horse." He must spend his spare time memorizing Oswald Spengler's The Decline of the West; he probably also has a PhD. He certainly writes like one. I ought to know, I have been on a university faculty for 30 years. I wished that Derek Lee hadn't taken that swing at the guy, but he did. Even the best of us can occaisionally lose it. Under the same circumstances I might have done the same; I am only human after all, and so is Derek Lee. Maybe I have over reacted. Aw who really gives a *&^%. You can find the target of my rant here.
  2. I don't know about the wind, but lots of other things having been blowing at Wrigley lately.
  3. So much hope . . . healthy Prior/Wood, Clement-beards, "In Dusty We Trusty." . . . What could have been, indeed. I guess you won't be ordering that DVD then. I won't either, I feel the same.
  4. Drinking games are supposed to get you drunk. Cubs games get me drunk. :P
  5. I would go through that every year if it meant we get all the fun leading up to it. Living it again every year is one thing, mainly because of the hope that it will be different, but going back to a particular year is another. Just reading some of the comments in this thread get me close to welling up. I'll hunt down a copy of the DVD after the Cubs win it all, but until that (fictional) day, I won't be able to relive any of that. Nah, not me. Just the fact that we were really relevant made it worth it. For one year everyone had to shut up and take us seriously. For one year there were no jokes. Sure it ended poorly, but it was still worth it. I only wish we would have taken better care of our pitchers so it could have happened again. I will wait until the Cubs are at least in the playoffs. I got an email from Wrigleyville Sports about the DVD. Then I thought about that ground ball going through Gonzo's legs and I felt sad. I just don't think I could take seeing all that again. My doctor put me on an anti-depressant for a while I was so down back then. I guess that makes me weak or something. You are a better man than I am illiniguy.
  6. Oh no! I just cheked the tv schedule and the game will bet available locally; no blackout. And it will be too early to get drunk. Oh wait. "it's five o'clock somewhere". :P
  7. This was said by Don Zimmer; maybe it's relevant, maybe not, but it sums up my feelings towards this team: And by someone else whom I respect: I have immense respect for Piniella; maybe it's because he's an old guy like me. He has shown immense patience. If it had been me, I would have exploded long before Friday. I have really enjoyed the chatter at this forum. I have learned more about sabermetrics than I thought possible. Yet I still believe that a team has a major emotional component; the problem is you can't measure it like you can RISP. So I have no objective basis for saying this, but I think the heart of the Cubs had a major coronary yesterday. So sad. That's all I have. I am building a small bonfire this evening. Anyone want to join?
  8. And a fine hockey game it was. :D I checked the score in the Cubs game, said to heck with this and had my DVR delete the recording. After a couple of drinks, then I started laughing.
  9. Good point...5-6 games of Vin Scully makes it all worth it...getting to watch real baseball teams (my local market STL is the NL Central too) also helps kill the pain of the carnival ride that is Cubs baseball. Yeah that's true for both XM and mlb.tv. There are some good teams to watch. I also like Vin Scully.
  10. Don't feel too bad. I decided to also get mlb.tv so that I wouldn't miss any games while traveling. Oh yea, I also have XM iin my car. :(
  11. So how many of you will be watching the game today? Come on Synergy, you know you will. :P :thumright:
  12. uh, we lost yesterday Those blackpouts can be hell. I have to stop that cheap stuff. :P Meh. Okay, so I'll pay if they sweep the Fish. :dumb:
  13. GAAH! I may have to pay for someone's premium afterall. Which I would do gladly. But there's still tomorrow isn't there? :D
  14. On Sunday they will announce that Zambrano has been put on the DL, and is being sent to see that same doctor who found the most recent porblem Prior had. Meh. I am switching to watching mostly MMA. Versus is adding a lot more coverage starting in June, Spike and ion already have a lot. Then there is the big PPV fight tonight. At least those guys keep trying until they are bloody pulps. Flame away, but that's how I feel. Having said that, if by some chance the Cubs should win the series with LA, I will also pay for premium for someone.
  15. To be honest, they were always around. Sucky Cubs just happen to be better than the Suckier Pirates and Suckiest Nationals. Not last year If last years team was an F, this one is a D+ at best. As an educator, I would agree. :D
  16. Sigh. I am now in agreement. I would have gone to a bar last night except that it was too late here to do so. I had some money I could have used for either a trip to Chicago to see the Cubs or to buy a new computer. I just ordered a new computer. :x
  17. Well I .......   Nevermind. :geek:
  18. Atta boy! Keep it coming people. Remember, if it happens (LOL), you will have to do what you said. Will be well worth it. Meh. I paid for a year of premium shortly after Lou was made manager. After that mess yesterday, I spent an equivalent amount on alcohol. :P
  19. Man, I have had bad feelings about the last several games, as in the last 200 or so! :P
  20. Or you could get a Mac and run Safari. :P Or not be a tool.    :thumright:
