  1. As I said, the announcers came off as total Duke homers. I wanted to see Hansbrough go ape on Henderson. Woulda loved that. Jim Nantz and Billy Packer. Enough said. Billy Packer is terrible. He did the GT/UNC game on Thursday and in the post game said Tech needed to win 2 or 3 more games. Today, he says Tech is a lock. Packer and Nantz will be there all the way through March. Meh. If Packer had his way, the NCAA tournament would only feature teams from the Big 6 conferences. If Packer had his way, the tournament might be a deja vu moment-the 12 team NCAA tournament that just happens to have all ACC teams in it. :D
  2. I don't think that's a shocking number at all considering the amount of money being thrown around right now.
  3. Yeah so that didn't happen. Kinda slept through the game. How bad did the Cubs look today? Starters didn't look terrible-Hill with a solo homer given up, but looked pretty good otherwise. Soriano was 3 of 3 with 2 doubles, and Murton added a pair of BB's. The pitching later was simply awful. It wasn't really as bad as the 13-2 score indicated though, and the starting lineup for the Cubs still looks all right.
  4. It's mostly the minor leaguers who are struggling here. Hope so, but last time I checked, Ohman isn't a minor leaguer. I doubt Ohman will be used anything but a LOOGY this year-he saw a good amount of at-bats against right-handers last year, but he is much more effective against left-handers, and with the depth in the Cubs bullpen I bet the Cubs will use him for mostly left-handers only with the occasional right-hander, which is not the way they are using him in spring-that accounts for the different result partially.
  5. I was just thinking what Bob said-with the lack of SS's that the Cubs have in camp, Cedeno is going to get a lot of at-bats this spring. Nice BB there.
  6. After watching Rapada pitch a couple of pitches, I can see why he's great against left-handers, and why he was so terrible the other day against the right-handers in the Angels lineup.
  7. From viewing the replay (although the replay is not the best) I think we got a favorable call there. The ball beat him there, but I think he beat the tag.
  8. Exactly-pretty much all the starting hitters have been decent so far (the only one that hasn't been good is Ramirez), and the pitchers who will be on the roster have been good as well-it's been many of the other pitchers who have struggled. Ramirez will continue to struggle till the end of May. If he has a second half like he did last year, I'll take him being terrible until the end of May :D I won't. You don't pay all-stars to show up two months into the season when you might arleady be burried in the standings. They need to play consistent throughout the season. That's a good philosophical question. Would you prefer a steady .866 OPS or .600 in April & May and 1.000 for the rest of the season? I'd prefer a steady rate, but if someone told me that Aramis was going to have a better than .900 OPS once again for the season, I don't really care if all of that comes in a couple of months or not. I'd like him to hit better in the months that he doesn't, but he carries the lineup when he's hot-somebody else will just have to carry them when he's not.

  11. Well, this has been 3-4 days in a row where our minor leaguers have been rocked by their major league hitters in the middle of the game. That's not too bad-but I wish the Cubs could do the same to the opposing pitchers during that time.
  12. My guess is that he will-the starters have been getting at least 2 AB's each, and the fact that they all took the day off yesterday was probably to make sure that they got into the game for a while today for TV, so I wouldn't be surprised to see many of the starters go into the 6th, and I wouldn't be shocked if at least 1 starter played almost the entire game or the entire game.
  13. Len apparently trying to add some drama to the broadcast :D
  14. It looks like Soriano might get to a few balls that some people might not be able to get to with his speed, and not be able to get to some that others do because of his route running.
  15. Beautiful play middle infield-quick flip by Izturis, and a quick accurate turn by DeRosa. Well done.
  16. Hill's control is not great right now-that's not a problem for the beginning of spring training though. His pitches are good with good movement, and that's about all that I think can be asked for at this point.
  17. The Big 10 tournament quarterfinals could potentially be amazing this year: Purdue vs Iowa-two pretty even teams. Purdue needs the win to get in the tourney, while Iowa probably needs to win the Big 10 tourney, and they've historically been good in it. Michigan vs Ohio State-they just played a great game on Saturday, another game would be great. Wisconsin vs Mich State-they've split 2 close matchups in the last couple weeks, and a 3rd game would be great. IU vs Illinois-do I need to say anything more about this game on this board? :D I'm very excited to watch-every game Friday and after could have some great intrigue.
  18. I'm not sure that even then that they could coast. The lower seeds get better every year. For example, here are the current 8/9 seeds from one bracketologist: 8's: Oregon, Kentucky, Butler, Villanova 9's: Air Force, Georgia Tech, Xavier, Indiana Those aren't easy teams to get by in the 2nd round. Wisconsin still would have a good chance of getting to the Sweet 16, but certainly not coasting. Obviously who those teams are in the 8/9 slot are going to change over the next week, but the same quality of teams will likely still be there.
  19. it's really a marvel of human ingenuity that this team is in any position to get to the tourney at all. they can't score points, isn't that key in winning basketball games? they have absolutely no players, bruce has done an outstanding job covering up the weaknesses on this team. now he just needs to recruit. It also helps when most of the Big Ten is terrible. I don't know where you would get that-the Big 10 isn't awesome this year, but it is pretty good-Sagarin has them as the 4th best conference ahead of both the Big 12 and the Big East, and Conference RPI also has them as 4th ahead of both of those conferences. Most of the teams are certainly not terrible.
  20. Go to the main page where your league is-about half an hour before the draft starts, there will be a link that says your live draft is going-you click that, and a new window will pop up that will be sort of like a chat room and will be where you do the draft.
  21. Unless he's planning on going 10 IP, 30 groundouts seems unlikely. :D Well, he didn't say anything about groundouts-only ground balls, and 30 of those are possible in any inning :D
  22. Penn State is definitely winnable, as is IU. They just have to piece it together for 40 whole minutes. Agreed-I definitely think Illinois has a legitimate chance to do that (although for obvious reasons I hope they don't)-I also think Wisconsin is possibly vulnerable to the winner of IU/Illinois.
