  1. Then again, he moves from Central Indiana to Southern California. So what? He never has to play a game at home in the cold either way, during the offseason he can live anywhere he wants, and during the season he's going to be miserable anyway playing for Oakland, no matter what the weather is like :D.
  2. Sounds good, but with an outfield of Godzilla, Johnny Damon and Bobby Abreu, there isn't a whole lot of room for Jacque Jones. As much as I hate to say it, to get A-Rod, it will require that we part with Aramis along with other pieces and parts. While A-Rod is an upgrade over Aramis, there is a scare that he could opt out at the end of the season, which makes Aramis the more valuable commodity in the big picture. I'm with you. I don't see Jacque fitting in NY. I also agree that getting ARod isn't worth trading Ramirez. The Cubs only chance of getting ARod has always been the possibility that the Yankees see him as a distraction and clubhouse cancer, and that ARod wants to come to the Cubs and uses his NTC to veto a trade anywhere else. If this happens, it will go down like the Nomar deal did. It will have to be some sort of 3-way or even 4-way deal that sends NY a good 3B from a team that isn't contending and will do a deal for just prospects. I think Tejada may ultimately be a more likely SS target, as the O's are unlikely to contend for anything other than 3rd in the AL east, and they desperately need what the Cubs have in abundance, pitching prospects. Yeah, but the Orioles also have a crazy owner who won't seem to ok a trade of Tejada for anything even when people offer him great deals.
  3. Well, the first Colt player to leave-Dominic Rhodes has gotten his payday that he wanted. 2 years, 7.5 million. The team? Good luck Dominic-you just went from the Colts to the Raiders. :D
  4. Thanks Bruce-are they going to try Theriot at OF at all? If they are, today might be the day they do it-my guess at the other lineup is going to be Warning-this is only a guess Pie-CF Patterson-2B Murton-LF Ward-DH Kinkade-1B DeRosa-3B Pagan-RF Soto-C Cedeno-SS If Colvin is in RF, then Theriot probably plays 3B, and DeRosa takes 5th with Colvin hitting 6th. If it's Walker, then I'm not sure how the lineup would be arranged. For some reason, I'm not thinking of the other outfielders in camp right now. Edit: the other guess of the lineup brought a couple people up that I forgot about and also reminded me that they are going to use a DH in that game, so I'm going to amend my lineup with my latest guess.
  5. Hopefully somebody explained to him that he'd be sitting more than he'd be playing. I can't imagine he wants that. He knows how much Jacque and Sori are getting paid, so there's no way he's playing over them. Unless he thinks he should be playing over Murton (ie-Soriano over to LF so Pie could play CF) I would hope he's smarter than that. I'm not sure about that. Wasn't he the one who told Lou that he wanted to be in the major leagues so bad that he'd just carry bats if he had to? I think he'd be fine with sitting the bench-but you cannot let players have their say on everything, and starting in Iowa will be better for him. He'll be up soon enough.
  6. I'm fearful that you are right. I think it's more likely we draft Burgess than any of the three above. Is that Wilken's style though? Wilken has a history of being unpredictable I know, which would suggest not one of the top 3, but from many of the players that are usually mentioned that he drafted it doesn't seem like Burgess is that type of player.
  7. Wow-Georgia Tech is most likely in anyway, but the one thing they didn't need was a bad loss, and that is what they got. Wake Forest prevails in double OT 114-112. Wake's top scorer had 22 and they had 7 people in double figures-I love the balance.
  8. Anthony Morrow of GT hits a 3 pointer to tie the game, which sends GT and WF into double OT.
  9. LSU upsets Tennessee in OT.
  10. Wake Forest only makes 3 out of 6 free throws in the last 1:05, and as a result GT and Wake are headed to OT.
  11. Tennessee airballs the 3 attempt, and the game is headed to OT.
  12. There was an absolutely horrible charging call that waives away a LSU basket with 7.3 seconds left-Tennessee ball, 7.3 left, tie game.
  13. In non pitcher news: So this means that those 4 are pushing for 5th starter-if one of the other 3 get it, then Cotts is the long reliever. If Cotts gets it, then what-Guzman as the long reliever?
  14. Isn't a hit batsmen an unearned run, just like a walk? I assumed the same applies to someone who is K'd and gets to 1st base on a wild pitch/passed ball. No-unearned runs only come from errors. Runs that come from runners that had Walks, hit batsmen, WP allowing a runner to get on, or hits all would be earned.
  15. It will be very interesting to see what seed Duke gets now-my guess is that they'll be in the 8/9 game.
  16. I think he was asking as a more general thing-the only way it matters in this particular outing is that we might have to read about how Wood was still ineffective in ST because of his 6 or 7 ERA when we know better about actually how effective he was-that will be a little annoying, but I think I can manage that if he keeps doing well :D
  17. Now, I can understand both of the arguments as to why Woody should have been charged either zero or one run, and considering there's an error that wasn't charged, two runs. But all four? Especially when there's only two hits charged to Wood. How can this be? If there is no error, all the runs are always earned. Besides, Wood gave up the other two runners-he hit a batter, and it was his wild pitch that allowed another runner to get on even though he struck him out. All 4 runners were on then because of Wood (without the error), and so all 4 runs are charged to him.
  18. Poor Woody. I wonder if it would have been scored that way in Mesa? From the description of the play, it would have been the same way-it was a bloop apparently that Izturis couldn't get to. Especially if it didn't hit his glove (which from the story, it doesn't sound like it did) they would usually never call it an error. There goes that Izturis, driving in runs with his glove again. That's all right-he was too busy doing well with the bat like he has so far in ST :D
  19. NC State gets 4 looks at the basket but cannot connect-NC State and Duke also going to OT.
  20. The traveling rules need to change if a guy can pick up his dribble like the Louisville player did a couple feet behind the free throw line and carry the ball all the way for a layup.
  21. Well, remember two things-the pod system makes sure that UCLA will be out West for the first two rounds no matter what region they are in. Second, if UCLA does get a 1, they are the only possible 1 seed that would fit best in the West, so they are not going to send UCLA to be a 1 in the East and then send an Eastern team to the West to play.
  22. Poor Woody. I wonder if it would have been scored that way in Mesa? From the description of the play, it would have been the same way-it was a bloop apparently that Izturis couldn't get to. Especially if it didn't hit his glove (which from the story, it doesn't sound like it did) they would usually never call it an error.
  23. They should still get a #1 in the West. If the committee punishes them for this loss then that tells me these three days mean more than the past four months. The key I think is what happens with the other 1's and 2's. if 1 or 2 of the 2's win the conference tournaments and all of them advance to at least the semis or finals, then I could definitely see UCLA getting pushed to a 2-it's not like they had a much, much better resume than the other teams before this. It was better, but it's able to be made up.
  24. UCLA-Cal going to OT.
  25. In minor conference action, Wyoming upsets Air Force 67-62-that will hurt Air Force's seed in the tournament.
