  1. I'd imagine so. CCP, get 17 or so posts and you could sneak into the spot vacated by ZZThorn. I've done that-the only question is if everybody behind ZZ is going to move up a spot and change the matchups when he gets thrown out, or if the new person is going to get inserted directly in the spot where ZZ currently occupies. Edit: I guess you've already answered my question when I looked back at the bracket :D
  2. Ha. How do you think texascub feels? Poor guy doesn't have a chance to make it out of the 1st round. Ya, it's like when Jackson State plays Florida in the tourney or something. They have to be in that "just happy to be here" mentality. That just encourages them to post more so that they will be a higher seed when this is done again in 5 years.
  3. The Cardinals win again today-they just find ways to hang around. They are really helped by their 18-13 record against the NL Central.
  4. BTW, IMB is still a few votes behind in this thread. I figured before we kept talking about the tournament, it would make sense to have one post on the thread topic!
  5. I don't know if that's encouraging or discouraging. I do think that he has a greater future as a reliever than a starter, and he can become a pretty dominant reliever. I just wish they hadn't converted him yet-he could still develop into a starter if his secondary pitches would come around.
  6. So who do people want for the Cubs sandwich pick? I have a good sense of all the candidates for the 3 spot, but if somebody can give me a rundown on a few good people possibly available at 48 it would help in watching the draft tomorrow.
  7. How did I already miss the entire Stanley Cup Finals? I was even planning to watch some of it, but my trip the past week and the general lack of exposure for it-wow.
  8. It's interesting that Guzman has had so many minor muscle things the last year and a half but it doesn't seem to be quite related to his earlier injuries.
  9. You would face Tim to get to the Elite 8. I think that's what he meant-he thinks he can make it to the Sweet 16 round, but no farther.
  10. Yeah, I can understand his thinking. He knows it's unlikely that he can come back and have a good career, but if he leaves now the doubts in the back of his mind if he could have done it or not would always be there. He at least has to try until there is no chance left of a comeback.
  11. At this point in his career, maybe he sees his skills deteriorating to the point where he won't be around in 2-3 years. He could see dollar signs and then charge mucho bucks for interviews and book deals and whatnot. Because if he'd be the one to bust the steriod thing wide open, he'd be on just about every news show there is. He'd be everywhere for about a month as the man who "helped clean up baseball," then he'd probably sign an 8-figure book deal. Plus he has a possibility of being considered the clean guy in this-even though he's already admitted his guilt, nobody will remember that in time if he ends up blowing the cover on everybody else.
  12. That's a great idea-how long after the bracket is up should people be able to submit their bracket before the tournament actually starts?
  13. I'd imagine so. Guess I need to get busy then-I need about 10 posts to be in 65th overall, which would put me in to get drilled by somebody :D
  14. Well, at some point you are going to run into one of the top seeds-would you have rather run into Fred instead?
  15. Did you vote "yes" or "no" in the IMB! poll? If you voted "no", well I think you should know who to blame. Grr-double post. First time I've done that in a while.
  16. Did you vote "yes" or "no" in the IMB! poll? If you voted "no", well I think you should know who to blame. That's a rather bold statement to say to Modzilla :D
  17. So is ZZ getting thrown out or what?
  18. Agreed-that's a great story, and I'm very excited to see him get in a game. He seems like a great guy, and his father was really nice in doing that, even if did end up jumping the gun a bit :D
  19. Count your blessings. Despite the weak 2 seed, the East is loaded. You don't have to degrade yourself like that-although your pod is not easy.
  20. Remember-only the top seeds are protected geographically in this or in the NCAA. Everybody else just ends up going where they fit in.
  21. The notion that MLB would instruct (more like ask, pretty please) the Cubs to adhere strictly to the slot system is totally understandable. The notion that MLB's directive or whatever would have anything to do with the Cubs' ownership situation is totally silly (especially the part about no big league deal). That's what I found confusing-those two things shouldn't go together.
  22. it makes me laugh how teams will balk spending a few million extra dollars in the draft, but then throw obscenely overpriced contracts at mediocre free agents. A lot of that is PR-signing free agents, even mediocre ones, can sell tickets.
  23. And several other clubs if most of the mock drafts are to be believed.
  24. jones, eyre and izturis for granderson I'd make them throw in Neifi. It would definitely crash this board for a full week, that's for sure.
  25. Are we going to do this by region? It'd work out perfect for the top seeds - I'd be out West, Jon can take the Midwest, Vance gets the South and goony can take the East. That would be a good way to do it. I'll be in the field to get drilled by one of those 1 seeds rather soon, especially if ZZ gets taken out of the tourney. I would suggest one modification to the tourney-have a series of play-in games for the last 5-6 people, and then select a few wildcards to go against them who may not have enough posts to qualify but have made a big impact on the board. Maybe I'm just trying to complicate it unnecessarily though.
