  1. I for one am not worried. Geer's pitch count is already at 93. Once we get this beast out of the game and get into that soft Padres bullpen we'll be set.
  2. I don't blame Milton for striking out looking, that pitch was placed with impeccible Greg Maddux-like control. This is why he has his own cheering section called GEERHEADS
  3. Why are you guys so quick to blame the Cubs' offense? Why can't we just give Joel Pineiro and Josh Geer credit as the shut-down stud pitchers that they are?
  4. This team does not seem like it's just Jake Peavy away from winning the World Series so I don't see what the great fuss about acquiring him is about. Yeah it would make the Cubs better in the same way acquiring Matt Holliday made the A's better, in a kind of "What the hell is actually going to come of it" way. The misconception with this franchise, I think, is that we are perpetually one player away from winning the World Series, when in reality it's at least two and in my book, most likely three, or more like one injury from becoming the 2003 Mets.
  5. They should've had a "creamed corn lol" float.
  6. It's not as bad an idea as it sounds, I think. Nick Johnson is like the hitter's version of Rich Harden. Trade him while he's healthy for a return that, on paper, does not look that great. But I remember when the Nationals tried to spin Chad Cordero into a fortune in talent, which didn't work because they asked too much and he didn't miss enough bats. He could make a good-looking closer for a year, year and a half, then trade him off.
  7. Why people cite Texas numbers is beyond me. Why don't you cite his Texas BABIP. What is it, like .400? Yeah Milton Bradley is a significantly better player than Abreu or something. These perpetually injured run-of-the-mill OPS right fielders sure are studly.
  8. Every time you throw someone who is not as good as advertised under the bus, it is deemed irrational. I think he's going to put up a Jeromy Burnitz-like OPS for the year and somehow this will be spun into some kind of success when people did nothing but bitch about Jeromy Burnitz. I'm not saying Jeromy Burnitz is underappreciated. What I am saying is I don't kiss ass on these .750-.790 OPSish right fielders. As an aside saying "except that it's not" is a pithy response that doesn't support your opinion at all. He strikes out far too much for him to have any kind of high batting average. He has a strict policy against multi-hit games. Like, how much better is Milton Bradley than someone like Michael Cuddyer? Has anyone ever given a crap about Cuddyer?
  9. No, Milton's not good either. Jones' career wasn't a bad one before he came here. Bradley is a sinking ship. Have fun staying with him down to the bottom of the ocean. He's the most annoying of unproductive ballplayers, the ones who get all the excuses and the "Oh he can produce but only when the stars are in perfect alignment, or during a solar eclipse, or only when facing a series of crappy lefthanded Pirates pitching when everyone fattens up their numbers. Reminds me when everyone was fooled by David Dellucci's 29 HR season in Texas.
  10. Milton Bradley is probably just another Jacque Jones - a guy management should've known was too emotional for this team. I really don't give a crap about his extenuating circumstances.
  11. Gregg might be the most pathetic closer I've seen since Danny "The Baby-Faced Assassin" Graves.
  12. Trade Derrek Lee to the Mariners for Russell Branyan and Carlos Silva, believe it or don't, I actually have more faith that Carlos Silva can fluke his way to a 4.30 ERA than Derrek Lee can do anything well at all.
  13. They're working on a deal to get Carlos Gomez from the Twins.
  14. I am not at all optimistic Lee, Bradley, and Soto are going to "hit like they should." I wouldn't be surprised if at the end of the year they are all .760 OPSers. At least we didn't trade everything for Matt Holliday, I don't think he's going to finish the year with an OPS above .850.
  15. Most of the guys listed in the trade wants can't play 3b. People are feeling desperate, but no, the whole "DH at 3b" thing isn't going to work. There's only one man who can save the Cubs now. One man who, when he gets hot, no one is better. That man, almost Chuck Norris-like in his glory is RUSSELL "THE ELIMINATOR" BRANYAN. Or Greg Dobbs. But when Russell Branyan is hot, he hits .200 with a .330 OBP and every one of his hits goes for extra bases. Plus we can listen to sportscasters say "He doesn't get cheated when he swings." I'll throw a crazier name out there - Dallas McPherson.
  16. Does it even matter if you are "innocent?" I thought J. C. Romero had a pretty good story, but that didn't get him anywhere.
  17. I can't Manny wasn't completely clean when he high-fived that fan after the catch. Now that home run he hit off a Sean Marshall pitch in the dirt last year will forever be tainted to me!
  18. You know who I wonder why they never got a longer shot in the majors, Graham Koonce.
  19. Good offensive shortstops don't exactly grow on trees. On top of that, the Cubs don't exactly have a large surplus of prospects to use in a trade for one. True about the first part. But the thing is, we do have some decent prospects, the problem is, wed have to deal in bulk, and since we have no idea what direction this team will go once the new ownership is finally settled, we dont want to completely deplete our farm system. 4 years down the road, we may be looking at Ridling/T. Thomas/Flaherty/Vitters across the infield. Bite your tongue. I'm still holding out for Kelton, Montanez, Hill and Choi. I'm waiting for Bobby Brownlie's velocity to come back.
  20. Jim Hendry traded Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano?
  21. Watching the Cubs lately has been like staring into the Ark of the Covenant. "Keep your eyes shut, don't look!" Oh why can't I take Dr. Jones's advice."
  22. Serious question: is Reed Johnson the worst cleanup hitter you can think of in the past ten years or so? I mean, I've seen teams decimated by injuries. The 2003 Reds had everyone injured and I think an .820 OPSing Sean Casey was their cleanup hitter. Even the Nationals, they don't bat Nook Logan 4th when he was on there. The more you repeat the worse it sounds, like some kind of mantra from the movie Fight Club: "Reed Johnson is our cleanup hitter. Reed Johnson is our cleanup hitter." This is the guy who's going to drive in all of those RBIs and make things happen on offense.
  23. Is Fox any good though? He's old for the minors and he hits for power but he also strikes out a crap ton which puts him in that Jason Dubois/Brad Eldred/Justin Leone territory of AAAA players. Maybe he could be the next JEAH CUSSED but Fox doesn't take the similar boatload of walks.
  24. Well look at how many games quarterbacks play vs. pitchers. And are quarterbacks really get mashed around out there anymore, if a defensive lineman sends him a sarcastic text message it's like a 15 yard penalty these days.
