  1. I find it the single most frustrating "false hope" delusions among, not just we of the "battered fan" syndrome on this board, but Cubs fans everywhere. "The playoffs are a crapshoot." No Cubs-related statement aggrivates me more. During the Nationals' series, I read a lot of posts like "This lineup works," or "This team is finally playing better fundamental baseball" or "this team looks like it has something to prove." Why not "This team is PLAYING AGAINST THE NATIONALS." And then the Cubs got the crap kicked out of them by the Phillies. But it's okay because they beat up on Charlie Morton and Chris Bootcheck. And the playoffs are a crapshoot. So can someone tell me does "the playoffs are a crapshoot" mean that someone Charlie Morton and Chris Bootcheck are going to be starting every game against the Cubs in a playoff series vs. the Dodgers or Phillies? It's not like the team would have to face any #1 starters or anything, right? It's just a matter of whuppin' on Chris "Crapshoot" Bootcheck, not Cliff Lee or Clayton Kershaw. So I am wondering, do I have this all down right?
  2. "The playoffs are a crapshoot." I think that is my least favorite myth on this board. Of course the Cubs are playing better, they get to beat the crap out of Mike Hampton and Russ Ortiz. Do the Cubs get to face Mike Hampton and Russ Ortiz in the playoffs? Maybe then the playoffs are a crapshoot. Otherwise the only proper use of the words "Cubs," "playoffs," and "crap" will be references to the offense and Soriano's performance.
  3. I wonder if we could send them some relievers for Barmes if they land Sanchez. why do you have such a hard on for barmes? -we need a middle infielder who can hit. -we dont have a lot of money to spend -Brames is a middle infielder who can hit. -Barmes makes 1.6 mil for the season, which is halfway over Clint Barmes is crap
  4. I don't think Halladay has as much trade value as some have said. Besides I thought C. C. Sabathia, Johan Santana, and Jake Peavy were all the best pitchers in baseball? Whoever is available for trade. Santana didn't cost that much to get. Philip Humber was dead to baseball when he was at Rice. Carlos Gomez is the rich man's Joey Gathright. Or the younger, suckier version of Nook Logan. Or something.
  5. I don't believe in Texas numbers. They're a myth, like Bigfoot and gay conservatives. 2005 David Dellucci. 2006 Gary Matthews Jr. 2008 Milton Bradley. And Nelson Cruz, I would not be giving that guy any kind of contract.
  6. And all of this still strikes me as really stupid considering a great many posters on here a year or so ago wanted to have Reggie Willits' children and were talking about these lavish trades to somehow "pry this budding superstar away from the Angels."
  7. Nate McLouth's career minor league line is: .292, .367, .427, .794 In his first two major league seasons he had a .755 and .678 OPS. Therefore Sam Fuld is Nate McLouth The 2nd.
  8. Ryan Theriot was once just a "crappy minor leaguer." Nate McLouth was once locked in a dead heat with Chris Duffy with the Pirates for playing time. Plus, I enjoy seeing fresh faces play like crap rather than the same guys I've grown accustomed to playing like crap.
  9. If we were going to get a former hot LHP Red Sox prospect I would've preferred Abe "One Eyed Willie" Alvarez. He's only got one working eye, but I heard that if you look into his non-working eye, you see a vision of yourself at the time of your death!!!!
  10. If Milton Bradley can play shortstop with John McDonald type defense than his contract might be worth the production.
  11. People are selling Fuld short too soon. Until he gets up here and actually plays for a while, how do you know he can't pull a Reggie Willits and be useful for a while? There was a time when Fuld, Willits, and Nate McLouth were all in the same boat in the minor leagues. Not saying that's going to happen. I'm saying let's stop pretending like it's a known fact.
  12. Can we trade Soriano for Carlos Silva and some other Mariners junk? Carlos Silva's contract is not a good one.
  13. If I remember correctly, he had a pretty messed up upbringing. It's not inordinate, psychology wise, for him to crave attention and support. Again, that doesn't make him a dbag, or a jerk, or anything like that. Not making excuses for the guy, I just don't like the personal venom he's receiving. Saying he sucks at baseball is fine with me though, cause man does he right now. Oh, and shut up Soriano. I don't think the Cubs can afford these emotionally disturbed types on their team like maybe some other organizations could. I wonder if the Cubs wouldn't be more successful bringing in emotionless robots. People say "I like this guy's fire on the mound" but personally I always liked Mike Mussina, he had less expression on the mound than Ben Stein. Or J. D. Drew. J. D. Drew doesn't get shook up because J. D. Drew flat out doesn't care.
  14. I heard this rumor that pot is LEGAL in The Netherlands. But it's made everything over there lazier and dumber than your average Rockford resident, which is why according to all economic indicators available they have the world's worst economy since it is based solely around hand-made beaded jewelry and tulips. Also everyone in The Netherlands is a failure as a role model to their little brothers. I walk by the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum and think to myself "Wow, what a bunch of dumb stoners. That's why they call it dope I guess."
  15. DAVE'S NOT HERE MAN
  16. I smoke my weed in this vaporizer thing that turns it into steam which supposedly does not hurt your lungs. But sometimes I just kill my lungs with the bong.
  17. Rich Harden is a pain in the ass. It's like he is only capable of pitching well during certain obscure astrological configurations. It's a good thing he only needs to be healthy for the playoffs.
  18. Well there was a lot of nonsense on here about how Fukudome had "figured something out" when I think people who don't just see what is the best interpretation for the Cubs knew this was going to happen. As a hitter he's like a worse, more strikeout prone version of Scott Hatteberg. And he's making $12 million a year.
  19. If the Cubs had drafted him, would he have ended up like Pie or Corey Patterson? Is he really this good? Isn't this what Delmon Young is eventually supposed to grow into? Thoughts.
  20. Not that I expect a reasonable answer out of you, but what teams have a chance at being world series champs? I am reasonable. It's hard to tell before the trade deadline. But this team doesn't look like is all it needs is Ramirez and Mark .757 OPS Teahen to win the World Series. Can he even play 2b competently?
  21. This team + Aramis Ramirez and Mark Teahen does not equal 2009 World Series champs.
  22. The only thing that will save this team is Doc Brown's flying DeLorean to time-travel back before Hendry made most of these horrible decisions. 88 miles per hour!
  23. oh really what a novel thought please tell me more about this "brett jackson" i wish there was a forum where we could have discussed "brett jackson" before, during and after the draft. oh well, dare to dream i guess. That is the best thing I've read today
  24. Zambrano nothing, K-Rod's celebrating is the worst in baseball. #2, Jose Valverde.
  25. Okay... not sure why we're pretending this is 2006... he'll be 26 in a month, his stock is not even close to what it once was. I don't much care for his game. He strikes out too much to be the perennial .330 hitter people predicted. He's not a good defender. His potential clock is running down, just like Jeff Mathis, Dallas MacPherson, Casey Kotchman's, etc. did. If we wait a year and a half we can have him for free.
