  1. When's that ever called in the big leagues though? The only time I've seen it called was (incorrectly) against UCLA ladies softball against Northwestern. Way, way back in the day, it was called in favor of pitcher Don Drysdale when he hit someone with the bases loaded on his way to setting the then record for consecutive scoreless innings. On the "replay" the batter made an out an the streak was preserved.
  2. Well, maybe it's really a Sexy Sadie party and you're in for a treat!
  3. Poo-holes can hit, but he can't count to three. What was he going to do there? Throw out the baserunner for out four?
  4. Is it just me or is Greg Maddux getting as fat as golfer Phil Nippleson?
  5. Only during the actual games. Pregame he's pretty good.
  6. Who is that new cob 2nd baseman?? Go Todd, have a great game!!!
  7. Between berman's insipid comments and morgan's perpetual references to the little red machine, I think I'll be sick!
  8. They are in perpetual whine mode now.
  9. I'd like to see Prior be forced to pitch the next 500 innings or until his arms, legs and head fall off.
  10. Gee Dusty, why are you taking Dempster out of the game? You tell cub hitters not to take walks because they clog the bases. Dempster is just helping the Metropolitans clog the bases. Ain't what's good for the goose, good for the gander?
  11. Does anyone have a clue as to Dustbin's having the infield at double play depth? Just get the out!!!
  12. FYI--Cleveland hung a 7 spot on Detroit and all-star madman Kenny Rogers in the first inning.
  13. Go Cubs, Go Maddux!!!!! We've a chance to take this series with Z pitching.
  14. He must average 3.1 plate appearances per game the cubs have played. Starting the night, Barrett was 14 PA shy of qualifying. There is a little known exception to the minimum 3.1 plate appearances per game (502 PA in a season---unless a game was cancelled), which is: if a hitter leads the league in batting and does not have sufficient plate appearances, BUT still leads the league in batting after imputing an 0-(#of plate appearances need to get to 502) to his ABs, he is awarded the batting title.

  16. Naah.... he was just doing his best Jim Ignatowski impersonation. Touche'!
  17. Is Murton drunk or does he always stagger around in the field?
  18. After 88 pitches. Come on Wuertz, whoops, Eyre.
  19. A win tonight for Maddux would be number 326 tying him with Eddie Plank for 12th all time. Next target is John Clarkson (pre-1900) @ 328; Steve Carlton is in 10th place with 329 wins. Number 9, Tim Keefe (another pre-1900), is 9th at 342 and I doubt Maddux ever gets there.
  20. For those interested in future cub Arod (keep dreamin'), tonight in Texas he is 1-3 (5-3;1B to CF;FC) at the plate and has made the only two plays in the field he was involved in. Yanks lead Texas 4-2 after 5. I frankly don't see how Arod can be traded (with his permission) during the season and besides, what would the cubs offer?
