After re-reading this thread, I have decided to admit I was completely wrong. As a big Castro fan, I want him to be up as soon as possible. However, I don't want the Cubs to rush him. The last guy that I can recall that started at 20 years old was Cameron Maybin (who, I hate to say it, had more upside than Castro at this point). He was extremely rushed. When he went back to AAA, he dominated, and now he is back on track. In hindsight, they probably would have waited another year with Maybin and that is what I think we should do with Castro. On top of that, we have looked mediocre at best at SS for as long as I can remember. But one more year of frustration is completely worth a properly developed Castro in 2011.

I'm not completely counting us out I just don't have any faith in the rotation to get it done. But I'm really optimistic about what Rudy can do. If the pitching is on, we have a great shot at the pennant. But that is a huge if.

Castro + priceless development time > Ryan Theriot's best MLB season. Even if he plays slightly better than Castro would (which is completely debatable), I would much rather take Castro with all development and playing time included. Even if Theriot has the best season of his MLB Career. Considering we have a future superstar in the minors, I just see another year of an aging mediocre shortstop as a complete waste of time. Especially when it's inevitable that Castro will be the opening day starter in 2011.

I just looked at the rotation and threw up in my mouth a little bit. We need 20+ from Big Z or we are gonna be in some serious trouble this season.

I just don't see the harm in starting him in a year where (lets be honest here) we will not be competing for the division. A full year starting at SS at 20 years old would be as much experience as he could possibly get. I'm all for playing experience. If he makes mistakes now, fine. He can get them out of his system before we need him to compete for the pennant. By the time he is fine-tuned and shining, he will be 22 or 23 years old.

Right now? Yes he could. Much worse, possibly. There's no need to rush his development. He is already playing on the MLB level. Why hold him back? I don't see how major league experience would rush his development. That experience would be priceless. In my opinion, he is developed, and should be the opening day starter. If the riot should be starting anywhere, it should be 2B. If I were Lou my opening day starting infield would be Ramirez-Castro-Theriot-Lee. And there is no possible way he would do any worse than Theriot at SS.

35% effort. He is the laziest fielder I've ever seen. I love the guy but he never plays to his full potential

Hendry will probably wait a couple years until Cabrera starts to resemble Bartolo Colon. Then he will trade Z and all of our top prospects away for him. And a 7 year 200 million dollar contract extension will follow. -
