  1. I've never heard their TV broadcasts, but Uecker does a good job on the radio.
  2. Skip's great. Don Sutton isn't with TBS anymore though. He does Nationals' games now. Crap. I keep confusing Sutton and Joe Simpson for whatever reason. I knew one was with the Nationals, but thought it was Simpson. Skip and Chip together is probably my favorite duo on TV, Skip and Pete together is best on the radio. I've never been a big fan of Chip (even when he was doing Cubs games), but I agree about Skip and Pete on the radio. I think they do an amazing job.

  4. I love how on my XM player, the words "HEY! HEY!" flashed up after the Ramirez homer.
  5. probably has something to do with them getting picked off a million times A pickoff isn't always a caught stealing.
  6. Ryan Howard is the man. Another homer today.
  7. He does that quite a bit. It seems. yea, has he even walked at all this year? i don't think so and he has gone 3-0 and 3-1 a lot That was only the fourth time this season that he got to a three-ball count.
  8. With the season he had last year and the performance he had in the little time he was in Chicago this year - why give him an opportunity? Because: *He has decent potential and is still young enough to improve *He really didn't have anything left to prove in the minors *Izturis isn't good enough to justify not giving Cedeno a chance Yes, Theriot has played pretty well. However, if you have both Theriot and Cedeno, you can get both of them enough at-bats so neither is rotting on the bench. Obviously, Izturis needs to go to make this happen. One poster is claiming that Cedeno fell flat on his face when given an opportunity this year. My argument is that he wasn't given a valid chance to show anything this season. It's really that simple.
  9. Jesus, I wish people would stop making this ridiculous arguement. Winning and playing young guys are not mutually exclusive. No, they are not - you're right. However, when those young guys with so much upside do NOT produce when given opportunities they are. Cedeno was NOT given an opportunity this year. Well, definitely not a prolonged opportunity, but he looked completely over matched in his 31AB's, only getting 3 hits. 35 plate appearances over the course of a month is not a valid opportunity. Don't get me wrong...I feel that his time at AAA this year was beneficial to his development as a hitter, but at this point, he really has nothing left to prove there. And that doesn't change the fact that he wasn't given a legitimate opportunity to play regularly in the big leagues this season.
  10. One and the same.Premium Non-Premium Thanks for posting the links. I didn't want to put forth the effort to find that thread, but it was entertaining to read through it again.

  12. Different person, that was cubbette I believe. Oh yeah, that was fun. Wish that person came back to expound. Here's the thread: viewtopic.php?t=41778 I want to say this was the same person that went off when someone criticized Mark Grace awhile back, but I can't be certain of that.
  13. I've seen Jacque Jones have back-to-back crappy years in MLB (most recently 2004 and 2005), and he's been awful this year with no signs of improvement. He's not worth keeping on this roster. Pie's numbers are actually comparable to Jones' this season, so why not give Pie a shot if you're willing to give it to Jones? And again, Cedeno was never given a chance this year. Yes, he had a poor season last year. However, he's still a much better option than having Cesar Izturis on this roster.
  14. -Murton is clearly better than Floyd against lefties. DeRosa should be at 2B, with Murton RF against lefties. It's beyond stupid to delay this. -Pie is not likely to perform any worse offensively than Pagan or Jones and is far better defensively than either. He's always adjusted well after moving up a level, and I don't see why he wouldn't do so again, given time. -Cedeno is a good bet to be better than Izturis and certainly isn't likely to be worse. The bottom line is none of these moves will make the Cubs worse, and all have a decent chance to actually make them better. Saying you can't give these guys a shot and keep winning is beyond absurd. It's just plain wrong. Again, you're making these lineup decisions based on what you think or hope will happen. When Pie was up, he was outperformed by Pagan....same can be said for Murton. Sadly, when Cedeno was up, he was outperformed by Izturis and that's hard to do. The fact is those 3 players had their opportunity earlier in the year and all 3 failed or did not meet expectations. How exactly is 35 plate appearances over the course of a month considered an oppontunity? That's what Cedeno got in April (plus one day in May).
  15. It means there's no longer the threat of seeing Bo Hart in a Cubs uniform this season.
  16. You're assuming he'll stay at that level, which isn't a safe assumption. If you can improve an area where you're getting mediocre to poor production, you do it. I'm not saying Cedeno is guaranteed to perform, but it's worth a shot. He has nothing left to prove in the minors.
  17. he's still racking up the E totals, 8 in 52 games True, but he was talking about mental mistakes. I think Cedeno's glovework will be fine. Offensively, the guy has nothing left to prove in the minors.
  18. Considering the Cubs' current situation at SS, he may have more value starting for the Cubs than he would in a trade. Agreed (if he can stop making terrible mental mistakes). But I think the Cubs impression of him isn't that great, so I think as trade bait he'd be valuable. Is he still making those mistakes at Iowa? I'm honestly curious because I haven't seen him play since being sent down. The Cubs have some decisions to make really soon. They aren't getting any offense whatsoever from the catcher position, and outside of Theriot's last 10 games or so, the production from SS has been terrible overall. If they could somehow find room on the roster for Soto and Cedeno, the next couple weeks would be a good time to see what those guys can do.

  20. I would argue that they have been our worst starters. Z has been pretty good lately, and you can't ague with 10 wins; Lilly has been better than expected; and Marshall has been solid (minus a start or two). Hill was great early on, but downright terrible lately. Marquis has been up and down, very inconsistent. Pitcher A: .699 Opponent's OPS, 8.31 K/9, 1.14 WHIP Pitcher B: .720 Opponent's OPS, 7.70 K/9, 1.30 WHIP Pitcher C: .671 Opponent's OPS, 5.28 K/9, 1.26 WHIP Pitcher D: .668 Opponent's OPS, 7.83 K/9, 1.09 WHIP It's not like any of these four have been terrible this season, but I'm curious who you think has been the worst starter out of those four when you look at the numbers.
  21. Why would the Phillies do that deal? Rumor has it that they are really trying to dump Burrell. This gets him out of there and saves them some money. They may or may not do it, but sometimes to get rid of an onerous contract, you take back some onerous contracts. (See Hundley for Gruz/Karros) Being desperate to dump Burrell and actually making that deal are two differnt things. I can't think of a team that would need Izturis any less than Philly. Depends on how desperate they are to get rid of Burrell. Izturis would only be a problem for them for a few months...less if they could spin him to another team. Burrell still has at least another year on his contract. In this case it would be a move the Phillies could make to free up money for next year and get out of what they view as a bad long-term contract.
  22. The Cubs already have enough catchers that can't hit.
  23. Steroids are a 50 game ban. Other substance abuse cases have a completely different program and punishment scale. Not only that, but they don't suspend you for your first positive test for a banned substance if it isn't a steroid. This means that this is the second time Neifi got caught.
  24. But what if they can have our crap-tastic outfielder show up at Shea Stadium ... IN A BRAND NEW CAR! Running out of ideas, why not just start packaging him with various products, like a game show? Like in the Price is Right, when they have the token crappy prize in the Showcase Showdown. except this is more like Let's Make A Deal where Monty Hall is peddling off useless crap yeah, let's put jacque, eyre and izturis behind doors number one, two and three I thought one of the doors is supposed to have something good behind it.
