  1. That's what everyboyd says when they get caught. They didn't know it was banned, they didn't read the label, they didn't know what they were taking, their doctor/trainer/teammate gave it to them, whatever. Romero's big claim here is that the packaging did not indicate that the supplement contained a certain substance. I would think that part should be easy to prove if he still has the packaging. I don't know how he's going to prove the part about the clerks assuring him he wouldn't test positive.
  2. completely ignore his 5 year struggle prior to 07-08. Soto is a fluke. You're right. Hitters never develop. What they are at 26 is the same as what they were at 21. It's understandable to expect him to drop off a little last year, but it's way too early to call him a fluke. Given his post about Hendry being to blame for not getting Pudge in the post before that, I think/hope he was being sarcastic. Didn't initially see that post. That makes a bit more sense.

It's understandable to expect him to drop off a little last year, but it's way too early to call him a fluke. I'll give him some time but it's very disappointing to see this from him. He also didn't get to have a typical spring training, as he participated in the WBC. It's natural to expect some regression from last season, but for someone to call him a fluke because he's struggled in 36 plate appearances this season is asinine.

  5. He struck out in eight consecutive at-bats at one point last season.
  6. While we are on the subject of the brilliant A's coaching staff, can someone explain to me why Orlando Cabrera is hitting 2nd and Jason Giambi bats 3rd for this team? Matt Holliday won't crack 80 RBI this year with those clowns in front of him. With the exception of Cust and Holliday, Giambi is one of the better OBP guys on that team. If you want Holliday to have RBI opportunities, Giambi and/or Cust would be the best ones to have batting in front of him and after Sweeney. Buck is a player that could be capable of a higher OBP, but keep in mind, he's coming off a horrible season. I do agree that Cabrera is awful though.
  7. I noticed the Pirates were a little light on right-handed bench bats. Although, Young is a switch-hitter, who I believe hits better from the right-side. Wouldn't be losing anything if he replaced Monroe. Sending Cruz down is the right move though.
  8. I have no idea who this is, or why I should be outraged. Chevy Chase's character in the Vacation movies. It'd be like buying a Henry Rowengartner Cubs jersey. Not quite as cool as a New York Knights #9 jersey.
  9. Especially when you consider he had a stretch in the middle of last season where he struck out in eight consecutive at-bats. He bounced back from that just fine. He'll rebound from this slow start.
  10. I have no idea who this is, or why I should be outraged. You don't know who Clark Griswold is?
  11. Craig Monroe would be a good choice. They've only got around 20 or so good choices. Name them, and explain to me why they should go over Delwyn Young. I would say right now, the best choices would be Monroe or Luis Cruz, who pretty much offers nothing offensively. With Vazquez on the roster, there's really no need for Cruz. If Andy LaRoche doesn't remember how to hit soon, you could send him down*, move Sanchez to third, and put Young at 2B. *I'm assuming that he still has an option remaining, which may not be a safe assumption.
  12. Are you serious? He took what should have been five balls in six pitches. He did exactly what any good hitter would and should do, and the ump screwed him over.
  13. yeah i would've liked to see lou out there too. We all know how well it worked out for Bradley the last time his manager tried to restrain him from going after an umpire...
  14. Who the worst LF? Duncan, Braun or Soriano? I'd say Duncan by a landslide. Why would you leave Dunn out of that conversation? He only asked who was the worst of those three.

  17. I would imagine that Mariano Rivera's number will eventually be retired, as well. I also believe the A's retired Rollie Fingers' number.

  19. So much for the no-hitter. Kurt Suzuki wrecks it with a single.
  20. Careful. There's a board rule against criticizing Gallagher. There's nothing redeeming about his outing today. Just one of those days. He did get Pedroia on strikes though. Must have thrown him the inside fastball...
  21. Watching it. Freaking Red Sox won't stop batting. Gallagher is certainly helping their cause.
  22. Didn't see an "other games" thread for today... Anyone see what's going on in the BOS-OAK game? Wakefield is throwing a gem.
  23. Craig Monroe would be a good choice.
  24. Okay...that's the deal and that blows, and yes all appropriate HDMI cables, etc. are connected. Many providers aren't picking up WGN HD because outside of a couple hours of Cubs games, the channel makes it night impossible to justify being added. It really is the worst TV station the planet has ever produced. The vast majority of the time, watching paint dry is preferrable to what is being shown on WGN. So, you aren't getting WGN HD, and you have whoever the idiots are that run that station to blame. Oh, and I'm not getting it either. They recently added it to Verizon Fios. However, if I want it, I have to pay extra for it. They give me USA, TBS, and TNT in HD at no extra cost, but if I want FX or WGN in HD (or ESPN News and MLB Network for that matter), I have to pay extra.
  25. I would do that deal. Stewart isn't going to start on a regular basis (at least for now), and Morrow isn't exactly an elite closer. I hope for your sake Nathan's shoulder holds up.
