  1. Wait, all of the last 102 years? That was better than the 7 times during those years that they actually made it to the WS? In UMFan's defense, there were no playoffs for any of those. They simply won the league and went to the WS.
  2. Yup. In almost every instance, someone running on the field is just drunk and looking for attention, but there have been enough instances of players and umps being attacked that it shouldn't be tolerated. It's really not hard to understand. If you don't want to get tasered at a baseball game, all you have to do is stay somewhere in the stands. Sorry, but that's a short sighted, ignorant excuse for a solution. There is a difference between attacking thugs and drunk kids on a lark. If they are gonna sell that beer for 7 bucks a pop until a boy loses his judgement this kind of thing should be expected from time to time. The old, fat, unfit security gets the final blame. But it's too expensive for the cheap ass team to hire off duty cops like they used to who know how much force is needed; and the least, the better. Don't tase' 'em Bro! Is it lonely on your pedestal?
  3. Rob Dibble is the Hawk Harrelson of color commentary. He is truly awful. Between the Brennemans and Jeff Brantley, the Reds broadcast crew is one of the worst. The Braves radio crew is usually solid. Same goes for Milwaukee and San Francisco. Also can't say anything bad about Vin Scully.
  4. You could make the argument that they just got worse by hiring Joe Morgan as a special adviser.
  5. I can't comment on his speed, but he looks likes he has slimmed down a bit this season.
  6. I still can't believe he was once a GM.
  7. I believe they have an organizational focus on getting their pitchers to be able to go deeper into games. To my knowledge, they don't put too much emphasis on pitch count. Not sure I'd completely put this one entirely on Washington. yeah maybe that is the nolan ryan approach. still, i would think that when it's early in the season and you're dealing with a young kid who's making his second start of the year and hit the DL three times last season, you'd probably want to show some discretion. I would agree with you.

  9. I certainly don't agree with people questioning a poster's masculinity because of what he posted, but I honestly find it odd that one can claim to not pay attention to a player when he is frequenting a thread about the player and has posted multiple statistical updates about said player.
  10. You don't? That is correct, I don't. I'm just a bit unclear how you can claim to not pay much attention one way or another, when you obviously paid enough attention to read a thread about Bradley, look up Bradley's stats, and post them here.
  11. Absolutely not. Hendry loves to hold on to guys he thinks he's 'discovered' after they've toiled in obscurity elsewhere (see: Perez, Neifi; Rusch, Glendon; Patton, David). He also has a history of spending on free agent bullpen arms. I think it's certainly possible that he would have tried to sign Grabow at a similar price if he had been a free agent.
  12. I don't know who would win, but the loser would definitely be the person picking up the tab.
  13. Kramer looks like an alter boy compared to Zoubek. Seriously, is Zoubek even capable of setting a screen without throwing a shoulder or elbow into someone? I didn't see every screen he set, but he tried tripping a man on all of the ones I did see. Either that or his hip kept popping out. He also apparently can't go for a rebound without locking arms with an opposing player.

  15. In his defense, I've seen Heyward referred to as that on a few websites recently. I doubt it was something Chip came up with on his own. That said, he could easily avoid using the term if he really wanted to.
  16. There were a bunch of people here that thought Blanco was a good one. We traded him for a reason. Posters here got mad at me for posting the disappointing stats of Blanco after he got traded. Hahahahah! Nicely done. Stop being so pissy.
  17. Not that I was worried about him leaving, but Painter just signed an eight-year deal with Purdue.
  18. you give yourself too much credit. it's a media story no matter what team he's with. Probably, but it doesn't get an ESPN feature if he's not with the Yankees or Red Sox, IMO. It was pretty well publicized when Greg Harris pitched both left-handed and right-handed in the same game in 1995. For the Expos. This isn't a Yankees or East Coast bias thing.
  19. Bade should have redshirted this season. Unfortunately, there were no other options to back up Johnson.
  20. I don't think you're going to see an approach change from Colvin very quickly. He's very likely to be an extreme low walks guy early in his career (although there still is a small possibility for him adding walks as he has shown he can draw walks when he isn't as aggressive but he doesn't hit as well either). So you have to look at the other two areas. Can Colvin add even more power to the good power he already has? And can he cut down on the number of K's? He was successful at Tennessee last year because he showed good power without a huge number of strikeouts. Then he went in the offseason and hopefully added to his power potential. If he can make further improvements in both those areas, he could be a pretty good starter at the major league level even without the walks. And the walks would likely come eventually for him as teams started respecting his power because Colvin has shown that he doesn't have a terrible eye. Colvin's a strange player because he has a huge deficiency without any great areas to complement it. But he's making it up for it by being good in just about every other area. He's good at hitting for average, he's a good power hitter, he has good speed to get those doubles and triples when hitting into the gap, and he plays good defense. The only issue is how he'll translate to the major league level. It is harder to project than it would be for a guy who walks a little more. He's a little more likely than most to get overwhelmed against advanced pitching, but he also might adjust and show his skills like he has done at lower levels. Would Garret Anderson be a good comp?
  21. What's the storry with Byrd? He was a four star. He didn't see the floor much, but when he was out there he ran around looking like he knew what he was doing (unlike Bade). I wanted to see more, but Barlow was getting the minutes over him. Byrd is a guy I can see taking a big step forward next season. He's a better shooter than his numbers this year indicate, and at 6'5, he's bigger than Hart or Smith. I was not happy to see Smith out on the floor before him (or at all, for that matter).
  22. You said top two, which is what we all took issue with. had you said one of the ebst, I know I wouldn't have laughed so hard. As for being the best next year, no way. Michigan State was better than you this year, and they bring back everyone but Morgan, and replace him with a top 5 recruiting class. For one Michigan State wasn't better than us. They were equal to us and that is with the Hummel stuff at the end. For two I said we may be the best if Barlow, Byrd, Bade and LewJack all step up/are more healthy. I don't think that is a stretch. If we lose Kramer and Grant and have four guys doing better that would make us a better team this year's team. Bade has a very long way to go to become a useful backup post player. Purdue better hope that Marcius is fully healthy and ready to play next season.
  23. Should also have a full year of Lewis Jackson. Even if he's simply coming off the bench, it will be nice to have him healthy for a full season. Provided that Johnson and Moore don't change their minds about coming back, Purdue has to be one of the favorites to win the conference.
