He's payed his dues. He's been the brain child coach of the Texas football coaching scene for awhile. He took a high school football team that didn't make the playoffs in 37 years before him to making it all ten years he was there with four or five state titles. He then went and worked under, guess who, Mike Leach. Briles is one of the better spread gurus out there, fits well with what's "it" in college football today. His spread is very similar to Leach's obviously, but he taught the importance of running backs in the spread to Leach, despite being a bit of a QB guru himself. He's more or less the Father of the Spread in the state. The big question is what direction the program wants to go towards. NFL pro style or college spread style. There are guys out there that fit both.
