  1. Yep, and it will continue (obviously). Rice is young, very young. Texas is young, very young. aTm has lots of good young players. Baylor will need to reload though. TCU is pretty stout every year. Houston's also a solid club. Noble's incredible.
  2. My week Wednesday - #5 Baylor vs #1 Texas midweek Friday - Kyle Gibson vs Chance Ruffin Saturday - San Diego at Rice Solis! (or Matt Purke in Brenham) Sunday - San Diego at Rice Tuesday - Jameson Tallion (2010 #1 HS prospect, touched 96 often last weekend, sat 92-94). Though on Tuesday I could go to Texas/Rice at Reckling. Lot's and lot's and lot's of talent.
  3. Hides it well enough apparently. This is almost too funny. Only one pitcher for the 'Horns has an ERA over 2.50.

  7. I decided to calculate a form of EqA in college baseball since 2002. Unlike in the majors and such, I also made a SOS adjustment as well as a PF adjustment. Obviously hitting .400 in the MAAC isn't hitting .400 in the ACC. Guess who was #1 (Top 100 inside) In case you're interested: +------+--------------+------+------+-------+-------+-------+------+-------+------+-------+---------+ | Year | Player | PA | Outs | Avg | Obp | Slg | EqR | EqA | TPF | SOS | Team | +------+--------------+------+------+-------+-------+-------+------+-------+------+-------+---------+ | 2004 | Tyler Colvin | 143 | 92 | 0.289 | 0.350 | 0.414 | 25.9 | 0.271 | 89 | 109.7 | Clemson | | 2005 | Tyler Colvin | 280 | 188 | 0.283 | 0.323 | 0.442 | 44.7 | 0.254 | 103 | 108.7 | Clemson | | 2006 | Tyler Colvin | 314 | 185 | 0.356 | 0.419 | 0.609 | 79.0 | 0.322 | 105 | 110.5 | Clemson | +------+--------------+------+------+-------+-------+-------+------+-------+------+-------+---------+ +------+------------------+------+------+-------+-------+-------+-------+-------+------+-------+---------------+ | Year | Player | PA | Outs | Avg | Obp | Slg | EqR | EqA | TPF | SOS | Team | +------+------------------+------+------+-------+-------+-------+-------+-------+------+-------+---------------+ | 2005 | Tony Thomas, Jr. | 281 | 168 | 0.240 | 0.388 | 0.419 | 53.4 | 0.286 | 93 | 104.5 | Florida State | | 2006 | Tony Thomas Jr | 286 | 175 | 0.289 | 0.392 | 0.426 | 53.8 | 0.282 | 98 | 107.7 | Florida State | | 2007 | Tony Thomas Jr | 315 | 152 | 0.430 | 0.522 | 0.733 | 101.7 | 0.387 | 99 | 104.4 | Florida State | +------+------------------+------+------+-------+-------+-------+-------+-------+------+-------+---------------+ +------+---------------+------+------+-------+-------+-------+------+-------+------+-------+------------+ | Year | Player | PA | Outs | Avg | Obp | Slg | EqR | EqA | TPF | SOS | Team | +------+---------------+------+------+-------+-------+-------+------+-------+------+-------+------------+ | 2006 | Ryan Flaherty | 272 | 154 | 0.339 | 0.421 | 0.458 | 57.3 | 0.305 | 93 | 107.9 | Vanderbilt | | 2007 | Ryan Flaherty | 309 | 175 | 0.381 | 0.438 | 0.531 | 77.2 | 0.328 | 91 | 107.3 | Vanderbilt | | 2008 | Ryan Flaherty | 303 | 175 | 0.324 | 0.411 | 0.543 | 73.5 | 0.311 | 95 | 105.8 | Vanderbilt | +------+---------------+------+------+-------+-------+-------+------+-------+------+-------+------------+ +------+--------------+------+------+-------+-------+-------+------+-------+------+-------+--------------+ | Year | Player | PA | Outs | Avg | Obp | Slg | EqR | EqA | TPF | SOS | Team | +------+--------------+------+------+-------+-------+-------+------+-------+------+-------+--------------+ | 2005 | Matt Wieters | 285 | 144 | 0.366 | 0.470 | 0.581 | 76.7 | 0.351 | 98 | 107 | Georgia Tech | | 2006 | Matt Wieters | 327 | 167 | 0.355 | 0.480 | 0.606 | 91.2 | 0.355 | 98 | 108.4 | Georgia Tech | | 2007 | Matt Wieters | 279 | 140 | 0.358 | 0.480 | 0.592 | 72.4 | 0.349 | 101 | 106.6 | Georgia Tech | +------+--------------+------+------+-------+-------+-------+------+-------+------+-------+--------------+ Just an FYI, an EqA in the .320's is outstanding in the majors, an EqA in the .320s is paltry in college baseball. In 2008 alone there were about 500 guys with EqA's north of 300. The reason for this is well, some guys just put up absurd numbers...like the year Rickie Weeks, SLUGGED a thousand, and there are also just a ton of guys (280 or so teams a season, so that's one or two .300 EqA guys a team, which seems reasonable. In reality I'm using the same scaling as in the majors, for distribution of run production, when the reasoning behind the scaling was to make the stat akin to BA. Unfortunately, we have .400 hitters every year in college....and .500 ones every now and then.

  9. okay it can obviously look bad. quite frankly red and white two tone doesn't look bad as the rangers new batting helmets (like the mets last year, but with red and blue instead of black in blue). but it can look quite good. UNC baseball uniforms are spiffy.
  10. im pretty sure when i was 18 i did throw 115 pitches on 3 days rest.
  11. Truffle falls on his face again. Amateurs aren't vags. They are in shape and throw 12 months a season. They don't take a five month vacation in the middle of the year. They sometimes might take the holidays off during Christmas.
  12. That date's wrong. I forgot to change it. He's started on a Friday, Thursday, Thursday, iirc.
  13. It's not sad. It's teaching pitchers not to be pusses. It's good.
  14. I believe I was the first one to say he had an elbow injury way back last March or April.

  16. Strasburg's done. He only struck out 18 more in 8 innings. If you're keeping track, that's a 45:4 K:BB in 20.1 innings. And that's 45 out of 77 BF striking out (58%)
  17. Found some stuff on San Diego LHP Sammy Solis. He's been experiencing some tendinitis. San Diego and San Diego State have a four game set this weekend. It looked like it would be Matt Thorton vs Stephen Strasburg on Thursday, but Thorton threw tonight. That means we'll probably a Strasburg versus Kyle Blair matchup, quite the headliner. Maybe Solis will be good to go. Strasburg versus Victor Sanchez is interesting to see.
  18. no and probably not unless he makes it known he wants to return for his junior year like khalil greene, tim lincecum and micah ownings did.
  19. can anyone who can read the ba chat see if they said anything about solis?
  20. Billy Beane's like a fat poor kid at a post Halloween sale at a candy store.
