  1. 4th and 1 at the 6 for UCLA and instead of giving it to either Drew or Markey, Olson tries to sneak it and is stopped. That's just a bad move.
  2. Yes, but only because Illinois got their only points of the game not on a safety but on a PAT runback!
  3. that was a great comeback. NU still has a mathematical chance at the Big 10 but they need a lot of help to get it. But nonetheless, that was a great game and a big win for the Cats. I can't stress enough just how horrible the offense has been the past two games. The o-line was bad and Basanez had easily his worst game of the season. Those interceptions were...yuck. Downright terrible overall. But for whatever reason, the defense in both games gave up very little in the 2nd half. NU was given an absurd number of chances by the defense and by Iowa's offense (and a few key penalties). But if they play like this at Ohio State, they'll lose by about 40. A share of the Big Ten title is a hundred to one shot at this point.
  4. I'm stunned. And I'm going to leave it at that.
  5. Felix went 1-3 tonight after the day off. He was replaced in the 8th inning because the game was already out of hand.
  6. It's the bad part of the Big Ten TV deals. Obviously having a game on ESPN or ESPN2 makes it worth it, but it's just another killer for ticket sales. Of course, you could count the # of students who take the first available shuttle at 9 AM to line up at the gate for first row seats with your hands and feet (or hand on some days).
  7. The defense has turned it around a bit, but the turnover differential is what's keeping this team alive. It basically has to be +2 every game in order to have a good shot at winning. I'd look for each team to score right around 30, so it should be an entertaining one on ESPN. The wildcard is going to be how the offensive line bounces back. I have plenty of faith that the WRs will be fine, but Walker is replacing Belding (the center who had all the holds last week) with another young center who had a terrible case of high snaps to begin the season as the starter. If they can give Basanez more time in the pocket like they have been most of the season, the offense will be that much better. I will say that I hate having to get up at 8:00 for an 11:00 game, though.
  8. I think my temper would be rather short, too, in the 10th inning of a fall league game in Arizona.
  9. Maybe he just assumed that any deal with Bowden was going to be a good one. Well, we learn something new every day.
  10. Looks like the Bears defense just got Harrington his starting job back.
  11. No offense intended to the Iowa fans out there: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c400/jeffersoncat/iowasacomin.jpg This is such a big game for the 'Cats. A loss likely means three losses in a row with OSU on the road next week but a win likely means a 7-4 record and a respectable bowl bid.

  13. Da Bulls pull it out!
  14. Always appreciate your updates on the Fall League. An article in one of today's Chicago papers about the Sox web activity made me think of you and doing something like that for the Cubs. The Sox do a podcast every week, including interviews. This seems like a natural for Cub fans who want more than they are getting now. The prospect of actually having a weekly update on the Cubs minor leagues would really appeal to a number of people. Anyway..something to think about. Are you at NU? I'm an old Medill grad guy. If I had the voice for it...I wouldn't want to put people through that as it stands now. Yeah, WCAS sernior. I live right across the hall from a couple of Medill guys who cover sports, though. Felix was 0-4 again tonight, by the way.
  15. Big advantage Bulls right now. Ride that momentum! Bulls lead for the first time all game!
  16. Holy cow the Bulls have tied it up!
  17. Looks like me cracking out my MJ jersey today did nothing for the Bulls tonight. :(
  18. He's in a bit of a slump right now. He went 0-4 last night while batting third.
  19. Don't worry. The pitchers bowl with their non-throwing arm. I hope it doesn't look as pathetic like it would if I tried to do that.
  20. The 8-7 win over the Reds was one of the few highlights of the year (I'm including both of Lee's HRs in that) but it gets my vote simply b/c while watching the Perez grandslam against the Cardinals, I was assualted by the voice of Joe Morgan.
  21. From today's Chalk Talk:
  22. The season kicks off Wednesday at 7:30 against the Bobcats. It will be broadcast on CSNC and WLS-AM 890. Duhon is listed as probable and is expected to play. He supposedly looked good in practice on Monday. http://www.nba.com/media/bulls/bulls1_40.jpg
  23. I can't stress enough how important this game is. They're incredibly pissed with how they played and there's a huge difference between 7-4 and 6-5. Hopefully the team can follow up their worst week of practices filled with media attention that they just weren't mentally prepared for with a solid week of practice in obscurity. An outlet will be needed for the anger and hopefully they take it out on Iowa.
  24. Pie with 3 groundouts, a popout, and a single (he was later called out for missing a base) tonight. He was batting 9th again.
