  1. I don't know if he formally retired, but he is going to be the pitching coach for Italy in the WBC.
  2. The Mets must've felt empty without an old Franco. At least this one doesn't carry any New York mob connections.
  3. I prefer a little from column A and a little from column B. He's not saying that they currently have interest in Jones, but just having him as a possibility makes my head hurt. Since Hendry didn't land Furcal, he isn't ruling out any more free agent signings.
  4. Yeah, I heard that.. interesting First 'Cat since Damien Anderson to make the team and first lineman since 1982. Strief is going to have a nice career in the NFL.
  5. :pukel: It's always great to see that emoticon just above a birthday candle. Aside from being a left-handed hitter, I have no idea why Hendry would even entertain the thought. Even if Jones were making a fraction of his 2005 salary.
  6. I love his poster jams on P-Ew Always great. Lovie Smith in attendance. Sweetney will go to the line after the timeout with a chance to tie it up. 63-62 LA with under 3:00 left in the 3rd quarter.
  7. Yeah, I think that was just his way of holding it in. I loved the video.
  8. Didn't see it posted anywhere else:
  9. 47-37 Lakers at the half. Talk about bad shooting. Pippen time.
  10. The Bulls can't get anything outside to fall. LA takes a 33-19 lead into the second quarter.
  11. Despite not making the first team All-Big Ten team, Zach Strief has been named to the ABC Sports First Team All-American Team. Big (and I mean big) congrats to him.
  12. I might have my own complaints, but no take-backs.
  13. Gordon (right knee sprain) did not practice yesterday and is doubtful for the big game tonight, but Hinrich (concussion) is listed as probable and is expected to play.
  14. Yeah, a loss is probably more likely. Bert...
  15. I still don't see Grossman getting in there before either a loss or a double-digit deficit.
  16. Yup. He's now second on the depth chart.
  17. Is Valdez a legitimate prospect? I remember when the Cubs signed him, he had some pretty good numbers during his "career" in Cuba. His first year wasn't exactly impressive. And I wasn't sure what they were trying to do with him. They kept on talking about how he could help reinforce the bullpen but he started until August. Then, when the I-Cubs had a major need for starting pitching, he remained in the bullpen for a while. He was really all over the place and had a big problem with pitch counts. His 73 strikeouts to 39 walks wasn't overly impressive, either. I'd imagine he's going to be one of those players that isn't expected to contribute at all. We'll just have to see how his second season at AAA goes.
  18. Glad that Pie is at least healthy. And I wasn't under the impression that Valdes/Valdez has pitched that much in the Dominican League. Guess I need to pay more attention.
  19. That was the first thing that jumped out at me when I looked up his stats, as well.
  20. Why Todd Johnson and not Mike Green? Here's the explanation that was offered:
  21. Spending money but they continue to largely ignore pitching. Plus, now that he has the huge contract, playing in the same division with the Yankees and Red Sox might not be that attractive. Of course, you never know how he's going to feel in a week.
  22. I wonder how far Nolasco and Pinto would go towards Miguel if we still had them. Would Baltimore be mostly looking for big league-ready pitching?
  23. Chris Harris is doubtful and Todd Johnson will start at free safety in his place. Bobby Wade or Rashied Davis will be returning punts. According to Lovie, they want to try to improve those two before trying someone new.
  24. Yeah, I think we learned about those in class once... I spent two summers helping to teach kids to program in Logo using Microworlds software. Now that's where it's at. Of course, some of the games they made were quite violent.
  25. Did they release $10 seats for those games? I checked right away on the pre-sale and they weren't available. I really wanted to go, as well. :(
