Is Valdez a legitimate prospect? I remember when the Cubs signed him, he had some pretty good numbers during his "career" in Cuba. His first year wasn't exactly impressive. And I wasn't sure what they were trying to do with him. They kept on talking about how he could help reinforce the bullpen but he started until August. Then, when the I-Cubs had a major need for starting pitching, he remained in the bullpen for a while. He was really all over the place and had a big problem with pitch counts. His 73 strikeouts to 39 walks wasn't overly impressive, either. I'd imagine he's going to be one of those players that isn't expected to contribute at all. We'll just have to see how his second season at AAA goes.
