  1. The same people who gave Paul Sullivan an overwhelming vote of confidence.
  2. The Oklahoma announcer just referred to Guzman "leaving with some sort of arm injury." Doesn't sound like we can get the Iowa broadcast today. As craig mentioned, Guzman was having a stellar game before the injury: 3.2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 8 Ks, 0 BBs, HBP, 66 pitches, 44 strikes. I even beat you on the edit. But not on your edit on my edit. Bases juiced after a Montanez sac bunt attempt turns into a FC with Soto reaching third safely. Fontenot then hits a sack fly to make it 3-0.
  3. Maybe it's a blister or something. Sure beats what it could have been. The Redhawks announcer said "some sort of arm problem" and apparently the Iowa feed isn't available today. Pie 3-3 with 3 singles so far.
  4. That's one of the problems of moving Jones to center. There's no reason he should be starting against lefties and he'd need a platoon partner. Murton wouldn't be able to be that guy.
  5. I don't see how Walker is a pure OBP play, but Beane has gone after lots of OBP-centric players. He can't go after all of them. He has stayed away from bigtime OBP guys in recent years because they have been earning more and more money as the rest of the league started realizing the value of OBP. Beane isn't an OBP fiend, he's an efficiency fiend. What else does Todd do? Can't run, mediocre defense, no real power and certainly not a big RBI guy. 2004: .274/.352/.468 - 50 RBIs in 372 ABs with most of his time spent at the top of the order 2005: .305/.355/.474 - 40 RBIs in 397 ABs with most of his time spent at the top of the order
  6. Not making outs/high OBP is ideal for all spots in the lineup. And speed shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as power. It's a great tool that can be pretty useful when used correctly, but it doesn't come that close in importance to being able to rack up extra base hits.
  7. Arena is the new head coach of the Red Bulls.
  8. Brian clearly won that one. Nice to see Harvey pick up two more hits tonight. Sadly, Pie's OPS for July dropped from .833 to .688 in what, two days? And Holdzkom is up with Daytona after his two week stint with Mesa.
  9. Anyone care to wager how many batters Samardzija will hit in his two starts at Peoria?
  10. I finished early at 0-3, but let's just say my Cubs/Cards tickets didn't go to waste. I think Dusty will "step down" in late August.
  11. Well, lefties are a big weakness for Wuertz. They're killing him with a .194 BAA.
  12. Wuertz's line at Iowa this year: 28 G, 39 IP, 0.92 WHIP, 6.77 K/BB, 14.07 K/9, 2.08 BB/9, 1.85 ERA
  13. Lovie basically said afterwards that he didn't really care about the game (not in those words). You don't often hear that from a coach.
  14. Well, he's having a down year and is still leading all third basemen in the AL in OBP, OPS, SLG, HR, BB, and RBI. And he still has a better OPS than Derek Jeter.
  15. Ah, Steve Philips. What an idiot. John Kruk has competition, I suppose.
  16. This implies two years. If so, I'd be pretty shocked if he's an A.
  17. Should still be on Cubs.com.
  18. It would be great if we could get some consistency at DE (especially Brown).
  19. Grossman, Mike Brown, Ruben Brown, Benson, Ogunleye, Mark Bradley, Chris Harris, Terrence Metcalf, Hunter Hillenmeyer, Bryan Johnson, and Ian Scott to name a few. It wasn't a terrible year in terms of injuries, but losing Grossman really hurt the offense. The defense didn't have many major injuries, but a lot of guys missed some time.
  20. Pierre has had two season with an acceptable OBP in the past four and a half. Of course, the last season he had a good OBP was 2004, when he was terrible on the base paths. His numbers this season aren't flukey. He's doing exactly what he did last season (and 2002) and I'd like to see a career SLG a tad higher than 23 points above a .352 career OBP from a veteran starting position player.
  21. At 155, he better start eating like an 18 year old.
  22. I think giving up 2 GS's and 11 runs in one inning on national TV followed by a fan revolt would qualify as semi-supernatural...if not unexpected. A couple more weeks and you'll just think of that as a Sunday. Now a long thread on Derrek Lee's Frosted Flakes commercial...I could see that.
  23. The game "only" lasted for an even 5 hours. There were 35 strikeouts, however.
  24. Hopefully Williams can make something of this opportunity.
  25. Thanks for the link, Jon. Unfortunately they don't have the date that Cowboys tickets are going on sale. Are you sure the Cowboys are selling individual game tickets this year? Their website only has ticket packages. Sadly, it looks like the Bears are using individual passwords this year.
