  1. Yeah, who would favor two statistically better seasons from a second baseman over a corner outfielder at a fifth of the price? Those folks are really out there. So you are trying to tell me that Walker is having a statistically better season than Soriano? IF so, that has to be the funniest thing I"ve read in a long time. If Walker is such a value, why aren't teams lined up for him? They seem to be lined up for Soriano, but Walker seems to be not such a hot item? Why would that be? Just about everything about Walker's stats have quite clearly been about 2004 and 2005. You can try to twists things all you want, but you'll have to do a better job than that.

  3. Pittsburgh is averaging 22,688 tickets sold per game this season. That's 59.1% and puts them on pace for 1.8 million again. They rank 26th, ahead of only Oakland, Kansas City, Tampa Bay, and Florida.
  4. Predictable script time. If he does well after this start: "Leaving him in the minors was a good move. He needed to get more work done" - Dusty Baker, Jim Hendry, and/or Larry Rothschild If he does poorly after this start: "The guy doesn't listen, talks too much, we're doing all we can with him, blah blah blah" - Dusty Baker, Jim Hendry, and/or Larry Rothschild
  5. He's going to get at least 10m a year come next year. It's what the current market demands. I mean is Furcal worth 13m a year? Is AJ Burnett worth 5\60 million? No and no. Just b/c people are stupid enough to pay average players crazy money doesn't mean you jump into the stupid pool. He may get $10m from someone next year, in fact I'd be surprised if he didn't, but he'll be 31 next year and he has a career .835 OPS. For a corner OF, that's above average, but not $10m worth. Put it this way - the team that pays him $10m next year is not going to get a good return on their investment (disclaimer - if he moves back to 2B that helps, but I still think $10m is too much - Walker had a better OPS each of the last 2 seasons). OPS or no OPS, Walker isn't even in the same universe as Soriano (except when it comes to defense). Not this year, but certainly the last two years, especially relative to their positions.
  6. His stance is really open now.
  7. Colvin's 8th double of the season (down the first base line) drives in another run. Canzler brings him home on a sac fly two batters later. 5-1.
  8. Petrick's 6th: -First pitch groundout 6-3 -Single up the middle on an 0-2 hanging curve -Single to right on a 3-2 pitch after falling behind 2-0, runner to third -Sac fly to relatively deep center And that's it for Petrick. He's responsible for the runner on 2nd. Unofficial line: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 7-5 GO-FO Blevins comes in and gets the batter to fly out to center to end the inning.
  9. Lewis triples off the wall in center to drive in a run. The center fielder made a nice try, but he just missed it. Hit about 7 feet up. A sac fly by Puello makes it 3-0. Petrick's line so far: 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 6-4 GO-FO. One hit was a high bouncing infield single. He's had a 3 ball count on 3 batters so far, but has yet to walk anyone. By the looks of it, his velocity looks pretty decent.
  10. Petrick is looking good so far. He's fallen behind a few hitters but has come back with strikes just about every time. He has 5 Ks through 3 thanks to a very nice curve that is really dropping tonight.
  11. Not a great outing for Guzman, but not much damage: 4.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 5 BB, 2 K, 4-7 GO-FO, 104-59.
  12. Restovich crushes a 2-run HR to center. 8-0.
  13. 82 pitches for Guzman through 4. Three walks to his two strikeouts. Theriot's RBI double makes it 4-0. And then a Pie bomb!
  14. Yeah. Either that or bankruptcy in 3 years.
  15. For the record, Aardsma pitched last night to record the save for Iowa.
  16. It could be part of another bullpen shuffle. I suppose there's a "chance" that they could call Hill up in several days. I'm kidding, of course.
  17. Serves Hill right for walking a batter last night. Unacceptable.
  18. Dusty would only get upset if Cedeno had good numbers against a certain pitcher and then failed to produce in that individual game.
  19. not being able to put a successful sacrifice bunt down in key situations is something a little bigger than a mole hill. most teams would kill to have ozzie as their manager. ozzie won a freakin world series. as im sure many cubs fans, including myself, find his antics annoying all the time, he will always have a job. look at terrel owens in the NFL. the guy is a total headcase, yet no matter how many teams he leaves, he will always have a job because he is such a good player. So did Brenly, but I'm not awaiting his return to the dugout. The clinic they need is for not giving up as many runs. The White Sox are second in all of baseball in SLG % and lead the majors in HRs and runs scored. Their offense isn't a problem and getting (for the most part) sub-par players to practice their bunting skills isn't going to make much of a difference. There's no reason to call out players who (for the most part) you have no business relying on for offensive production.
  20. I thought I saw Nathan saying they were expecting 3 starts from him but maybe my memory is temporarily failing me. According to that AP article a few days ago, it was "a few more times."
  21. Nothing stands out for Angulo except that he's a young lefty. He had 99 walks to just 84 Ks coming into this season and a career WHIP of 1.90.
  22. By the way, one of the security words that came up for me on ticketmaster.com was "shoop." Oh, and then there's this:
  23. Unless he misses a couple of weeks and they decide it would be best to give him more experience by pitching through September.
