  1. Iowa: Jeff Samardzija (AAA Debut - 3-5, 4.86 at AA) Tennessee: TBD Daytona: Grant Johnson (0-0, 4.50 - 1-1, 6.89 at AA) Peoria: Dae-Eun Rhee (3-1, 1.16) Boise: Jose Pina (0-0, 4.50)
  2. Calling a game by rotating half a dozen cliches and catch phrases isn't effective broadcasting.
  3. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it with my own eyes: http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?mid=200806232991136
  4. Mike Burns is scheduled to take Hill's spot on Thursday.
  5. Iowa: JR Mathes (4-3, 2.48) Daytona: Marcus Mateo (1-1, 5.17 at Daytona, 1-0, 1.20 at Peoria) Daytona: Alessandro Maestri (5-3, 3.63) Peoria: Audy Santana (0-3, 3.73) Boise: Mark Pawelek (0-0, 9.00) By the way, Samardzija is set to make his AAA debut on Tuesday night. And as for Ascanio, who was supposed to be activated from the bereavement list last Thursday:
  6. There are few things cooler than a full double rainbow.
  7. My problem with making too much about home field advantage being decided by the All Star game is that the All Star game has to be as big of a crapshoot as there is. Having the best talent doesn't mean a whole lot when pitchers aren't going 100% with their normal routines and position players don't play the entire game. I think it's a stupid idea and it probably should be determined by best over all record, but it's not any more or less arbitrary than simply alternating years. And even best overall record isn't a perfect solution.
  8. Consider what team's fan base he's talking about, and I'm quite certain someone will take it seriously. Anyone on the White Sox or in their organization, I mean. He'll certainly hear about it while in the bullpen.
  9. They were apparently using the see what sticks approach with adjusting Hill's mechanics recently. It probably won't be a bad thing to have him work with someone else for a little bit. Maybe the Orioles wouldn't mind if Alan Dunn was hired for some consulting work on the side...
  10. The odd part in keeping Fontenot over Patterson, assuming that is what eventually happens, is that Piniella apparently thought enough of Fontenot's defense to pull him in the 4th inning of a blowout after he already hit a HR that inning. Of course, Piniella did admit that he completely forgot about that HR, but how can he be that high on Fontenot when he won't even keep him in the game early in a blowout because of his defense?
  11. Eyre will get crap about it next weekend, but he was pretty clearly joking. I don't think anyone would take it seriously.
  12. His LD% has continued to drop over the last few weeks, as has his BABIP. His biggest issue right now, though, is his drop in walks, which I'm not really concerned about.
  13. They're going to skip Gallagher and have him pitch Friday, apparently. Dempster will pitch next Saturday.
  14. Rothschild and company must be pretty anxious to get Marmol back out there to try and correct his posture.
  15. I-Cubs up 13-5. Ward is 2-3 with a walk. Pie is not in the lineup.
  16. It seems like Guillen has used Thome like this before against the Cubs. I don't get it.
  17. Normally I'd rip ESPN for the camera angle on that HR, but because of Wrigley shaking as it was going, that was awesome.
  18. Here are his release point graphs from his starts with the Cubs this year. They definitely got more inconsistent.
  19. Not a great follow-up start by Veal: 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, 2 WP, but he did have a 10-4 GO-FO.
  20. The radar doesn't look great. We may see some on and off rain.
  21. Hahaha.
  22. Of course.
  23. Two more.
  24. Yeah, we talked about that in the game thread. Every fastball was between 92 and 94 mph. WGN's radar gun isn't always accurate, Gordon.
  25. I would say that Andy Gray isn't holding anything back, but that wouldn't be true.
