  1. The bottomline is this....these are men. If they can't "cowboy up", "man up", or whatever cliche macho statement that can come up with then they don't deserve to win the game. I could live with the NFL changing the OT rules to that if team A scores then team B has one last possession to tie or win the game. But if they don't chose to change the rules, then so be it. And here you perfectly summarize the only argument I ever hear in favor of NFL OT rules. Never mind the OT rules are inherently unfair. These are men, they need to suck it up and get over it. Never mind that the winner of the coin toss has a significant advantage. The defense needs to overcome that advantage, or else they are not worthy of winning the game. Equality and fair play in the rules is less important than the need for the NFL to keep up the appearance that their players are the closest thing to an ubermensch.
  2. True story: The minor league Akron Little Indians signed a new lease with the city and built a new stadium in 1996. As part of the renovations, they decided to rename their team. The group of people in charge of this decided to name the team in honor of Judith Resnik, an astronaut from Akron who died in the Challenger space shuttle disaster. So there was great anticipation the day of the unveiling of the new team name. The entire town was giddy with excitement. The curtains were pulled back and the name was revealed to be ..... the Akron Blast! And if that wasn't enough, the mascot of the team ran out onto the stage. The mascot was a dog. The dog's name: Kaboom. And that, my friends, is the worst mascot of all time.
  3. The winner of the coin flip still has an advantage. You're saying the onus is on the defense to overcome that advantage.
  4. It's no doubt interleague has made the scheduled more unbalanced, but to what degree is impossible to predict at the beginning of the season. In any case, the excitement of interleague games is worth it.
  5. Completely agree ... the overtime system heavily favors the team that won the coin toss. It's not fair. This isn't college, thisn't is high school, this is the NFL. The Titans had 60 minutes to win the game and they didn't. Just because they didn't win the coin toss, or stop the Steelers when the needed too doesnt mean it's unfair. I truly doubt you'll hear any Titan player complain about th OT rules being unfair. The Titans didn't stop the Steelers in OT and that is ON them, an not the OT rules. The OT rules are fine. Let me ask you this. Are you denying that the coin toss is a factor in determining the winner? The opening coin toss is a factor in determing the winner of any game. This is a very stupid topic that needs to stop being discussed. The people who cry about OT rules every damn time a game goes to OT refuse to acknowledge the simple fact that both teams had 60 minutes to score more than their opponent and that none of their proposals are realistic or better. Football is a long freaking game. The 1:00 games end after 4, the night time games end after midnight on the east coast. Insisting on both teams touching the ball is freaking stupid. They had their chance. Nobody is getting screwed over, nobody is being robbed of anything. Nobody here disagrees that the winner of the OT coin toss has an advantage, and I would argue it is a big advantage. When one team is given an undeserved advantage, that is the very definition of unfair. Baseball is a long freaking game too. Imagine extra innings in baseball ending after the *first* team scores, not the leader after every frame. That would be analogous to the NFL OT rules.

  7. The Tennessee D forced a fumble. Thank god it's Hines Ward so that it cancels out the fantasy points. That's how I would look at it.
  8. The only thing that would have made it funnier is if a Brewer hurt himself falling down.
  9. The accusation of someone else is "evidence" enough to make an arrest. In fact, some states have a law that once a police officer arrives at a domestic dispute, the officer must make an arrest even if no one wants to press charges. If you listen to the beginning of the 911 call by Tonya Harding's boyfriend that he made while she was beating him, the first thing he says even before describing the scene is to ask if he'll be arrested if the cops arrive.
  10. Way to represent, Big East.
  11. DLee would be a borderline HOF'er if he didn't break his wrist.
  12. Those street vendors are an embarrassment to the Cubs.
  13. If you're gonna watch one game this year, it might as well be a game that starts before noon on Labor Day against the Pirates with the Cubs 10 games out. Or maybe not ...
  14. MWC is looking pretty good so far.
  15. It seems the Brewers have a great clubhouse.
  16. I couldn't watch the game. How good is Richmond? How did Duke look? I didn't see the game, but Richmond is a 1-AA National Championship contender. Thanks, this makes me feel better. Any I-AA national championship contender would be a bowl eligible team in I-A.
  17. Happy 34th birthday!

  19. Awesome gesture
  20. He'd probably go at least 1 for 25. I saw Albert's 8 year old kid on Shaq Vs. the other day and I'm pretty sure that kid could go 1 for 25. I hope their relationship turns out as well as Cecil and Prince's. But the difference is that Pujols is a great guy.

  22. Because you play in an adult county league and he plays in major league baseball. LOL
  23. Bears - 10 Packers - 27 GO PACK!
  24. He's not getting nearly enough. He put this crap show together. And the media is focused on Bradley's personality. When you have a bunch of 30+ year olds with injury histories you can't blame a season on flukey injuries. They've had 2 guys underperform reasonable expectations. You have to assume some guys are going to struggle. What you can't do is pay superstar money to non-superstars and expect to cruise. He's spent a ton of money on this team and it's been a big waste. Fontenot, Miles, Gregg, Marmol, Soriano, Soto, Bradley, and that's without touching injuries. Who forsaw Fontenot, Marmol, Soriano, and Soto struggling so much this season? Letting go of DeRosa and adding Miles is the only mistake you can blame Hendry for, but it's a huge one. HE BUILT THE WHOLE FREAKING TEAM!!! Don't give me this "who could foresee" nonsense. He decided to build a team of 30-something nonsuperstars with injury histories making superstar money. Soriano, Marmol, and Soto don't have injury histories. Bradley does, but he's been fairly healthy this year. The team, more or less, is the same as last year's 97 win team.
