  1. Why do they even have to make games close? Let's just lose and cut to the chase. It teases me to watch it longer than I should be watching .. cursed Cub fan genes.....
  2. Yes. The closer experiment has run its course. It's just painful to watch now... a sick joke.
  3. The boo-birds are out at Wrigley Field tonight. I don't know who was worse in the 9th. Dempster on the mound, or Blanco behind the plate. Oh Michael... GET WELL SOON....... Another loss for Dempster, I'm thinking. What a CLOSER! Not.
  4. I agree with most of your list. --Murton is da man --The Riot is da man II --Gotta love Lee BUT... most of all what I love most about the Cubs is Wrigley Field. Period.
  5. He has to play the kids now... he's got nothin' left... Nevin's gone, Neifi's gone, Walker's gone, the entire pitching staff is gone, etc.
  6. Is that this team's new slogan? I can see it now, on a WGN TV commercial. You do realize that we are about three games from being the worst team in all of baseball, and KC is playing pretty good right now, so it's lookin' good for us to succeed at failing. If we lose tonight they will be lowering that flag at Wrigley to the lowest spot. Yes, indeed ... we have played like the worst team in the NL all season, and now it can be official! If you can't be the best, be the worst.
  7. No. Z hasn't had one. I think he could have but they were being cautious. Guess it takes your entire pitching staff to go down to learn that lesson. The topic came up the other day when I THINK it was Hill was doing great and went through the 8th, then after commercial, he was out in the 9th. I was kind of hoping he'd get to try for it, to fend off yet another embarassing stat. I'm thinking with 5 rookies in the rotation, we're not likely to have a complete game. Oh well.... wait til next year, or the year after that or maybe even the year after that....
  8. So I heard the other day that never in MLB history has there been a team that did not have at least one complete game in a season, and even then, there have only been five teams that ONLY had one complete games. Did anyone else hear that? Doesn't sound right, but I suppose it is. If so, yet another embarrassing chapter in this horrible 2006 season.
  9. Yeah. We joke here at home that Dempster needs AT LEAST two runs when he comes in, and that's no joke (and usually that's not enough).
  10. I don't know, but I sure don't think DEMPSTER is the closer!!
  11. Here's an idea. Forget baseball (seems like they have anyway) and sign them up for next year's Survivor cast.
  12. I agree. It is COMICAL in a VERY sick sort of way. Four errors? Our infield is playing like garbage, then again, how many different shortstops, second basemen and first basemen have we had this season? Four? Five? Back to back horrible losses late in the game.... walk off grand slam, walk off walk. Geez. These guys are a joke. I hope everyone is officially done waiting for miracles!
  13. I'm not sure if it's a lifetime of being a Cubs fan or that I can see the future, but I knew that Bennet was going to hit a granny. Is it late September yet? Our bullpen needs it to get here quick.
  14. For me the pitching situation is a true nightmare. There's lots of talk about hitting and who has risen to the occasion and who has not... and what moves were good or bad. In my opinion, we've got a mess to deal with in our pitching staff? What's left of Wood? Is Prior EVER going to stabilize? Which rookies are for real? I'm glad I don't have to be the one figuring out the Cubs' pitching puzzle.
  15. Pierre is the least of our worries. We need to figure this pitching thing, PRONTO. It's a mess.
  16. Yeah, that's the beauty of POST game polls... time for plenty of NICE COLD BUDWEISERS to numb your common sense!
  17. That was an awesome day for Cub fans. Makes me miss Sammy! What's wrong with me?
  18. Last night (Tuesday) Comcast Chicago was doing their poll, with the question being "do you think the Cubs can still win the wild card" ... did anyone see the final results? I got pulled away before I saw it. I was curious what Cub fans are saying. I know what I think (no way), but I'd like to know if anyone out there knows. Thanks.
  19. He's a Dodger now, so it's to be expected, and it's not bad, anyway.
  20. I was at the first night game, the one that got rained out after a point, and it was AWESOME. I was 20 years old and with a bunch of people that were 21 or older ... yeah, I was the designated driver, to say the least. We were soaking wet but it was a memory that can't be beat. Lights had to happen. I hate for some classic things to change, too, but it had to happen. I hear they are adding more night games next year, and I am not crazy about that, but what will be, will be!
  21. Who cares. It's hard to even remember that he's with the Cubs at all. If he pans out, great. If not, who cares. Doesn't seem like we've had a good run with our pitchers coming back strong from injuries. There's six weeks left in the season.... Miller's chance to make a difference is gone, and what happened to the talk of him coming back much sooner?
  22. Love the Rangers. They're fun to watch and have a bunch of former Cubs (Yes, I like them despite that fact!!!!) Took their stadium tour in Dec. 2000... very cool, built partly with Wrigley in mind.
  23. For sure. He has had his share of struggles, but it's been far less than an ideal situation with the pitching issues and especially the managerial issues that have, in my opinion, really clouded the true picture of this team. He's gonna be an all-star someday, and I hope it's in a Cub uniform.
  24. Me, too... a Cub for a long time. I remember being a kid and keeping my own homemade scorecard for Ryno's first game on a piece of notebook paper, watching it at home on a tiny black and white TV. Of course he ended up going 0-for for a while, but he was my fave player of all time that very day. Murton gives me that same feeling. Can't explain it.
  25. I know there is some disagreement on Matt Murton, but I have been, and will remain a strong supporter of him. Four doubles in four at bats in the second game today with 5 RBIs so far. He gives me some of that same feeling when Sandberg started out with the Cubs. Making some mistakes, not busting through the doors in a blaze of glory, but you can see something there that would look good in years to come in a Cubs uni. I like his attitude, too. Any interview he gives, the focus is TEAM not individual. My gut tells me they'll trade him this winter, but I hope not. Great guy, great player.
