  1. Fine, I'm requesting that the entire thread be deleted.
  2. No, but supposedly a gentleman's agreement with Hendry not to trade him without consulting him and receiving approval.
  3. It would be great if the Cubs got Abreu, but I don't see the motivation/willingness to give up anything for him. Why would the Cubs make a deal for them when they are so hopelessly out of contention and JJ is maning RF for 2 more years? Maybe trade Pierre and move JJ to CF? But I can't see Hendry being that creative. Trade Pierre and move Jones to LF. I think the Cubs will probably toss Murton aside like Choi, Hill, and Dubois before him. Jones is better suited for LF anyway. I think the Cubs would be very interested, but I don't know if they have what the Phils would want. Since they have David Bell/Nunez at third base they might ask for Aramis Ramirez. Unless they have a third base prospect they are waiting on. There dumping salary. That's true. I forgot and was thinking that they were just looking to rid tthemselves of Abreu.

  5. Getting rid of Carlos Lee would defeat their purpose for acquiring Maddux (i.e. a playoff run). Plus, if they were to get rid of Carlos Lee before the trading deadline, I would think the Yankees would be a better option to trade with since they desperately outfielders/hitting. Corey Hart is projected to be just as good as Lee next year, and he'll be much, much cheaper. As for the Yankees, being desperate doesn't make their farm system any better. There are only a couple of guys that the Yankees have that Milwaukee would want. But, if they want Maddux for this season then they obviously want to keep Carlos Lee for the remainder of this season because they think a playoff spot is possible. I'm under the assumption that acquiring Maddux is for a playoff run this year. Is the Yankee farm system better than the cubs?

  7. Or what about Bill Hall? Can he play second base? He's a free agent at the end of the year and he might be a bit expensive for Milwaukee as a bench guy/platoon with Hardy.
  8. I'll step back, but is it possible that the entire thread be deleted considering I started the thread?
  9. C'mon now. It was simply an attention getter and the bulk of the post implies it is the opinion of Stark. From the original thread: It is a message board not the NY Times. But, I'll make sure I hire an editor next time before hitting submit. Sorry, I thought this was NSBB and not Cubs.com or ESPN message boards. Sorry! Will a mod please delete my solacious trash(this entire thread)? I put a exclamation point instead of a question mark in the title. Edit to add: If the title was misleading to you, then there might be bigger issues at hand considering that no one else seemed to be confused by the thread.
  10. Any details? Such as how much of the time do the employees devote to voting?

  12. Lou won his World Series managing in the NL. My post that you quoted is about Joe Torre. Or are you just stressing that Piniella should be the choice. I'm confused.
  13. Are there any combination of any four such players that would all make the Reds? Howry, Ohman, Nevin, Mabry? I don't think we have 2 bench players that would make their team. Since Walker is probably gone at the end of the year anyhow What about....... Walker/Howry for Freel or Walker/Scott Williamson for Freel or Dempster for Freel (they may think Dempster just hit a bump of sorts)
  14. Hypothetical: What if the Cubs/Hendry evaluated Baker decided to hang on to him and then fired him at the end of the year due to continued losing and the Yankees missed the playoffs and fired Torre? Would Torre be a good option? Would he even consider the Cubs? The reason I ask is because I really don't know if Torre is a good manager or not. I never really scrutinized his managing skills when he was with the Cardinals and I was young when he managed the Braves. Pros: 1. Has won 2. Respected by players Cons: 1. American league managing is easier 2. not to hard to figure out a line up for the Yankee temas he has had Would he be a viable option if this were the scenario?
  15. Just about 1 hour left in the voting. I bet Zambrano is on the computer! :D
  16. With all the turnover in baseball if Davey Johnson was a premeier manger I'm pretty sure we hear his name more often I think there's some reasonss he's not in baseball right now. He's in baseball. He's just in management for the Nationals as opposed to coaching.
  17. You do not like predominantly defensive catchers. Correct? Can Blanco hit? No. But neither can most of the catchers in the majors. He is one of the top back up catchers in the league. Barrett helps the team from an offensive standpoint and is detrimental from a defensive standpoint. Considering the Cubs have a young staff they really could use a good defensive catcher who can call a good game and help instill confidence in those youngsters. The offense that Barrett provides puts a few runs on the board which in the long run does nothing for the Cubs future which is what they should be focusing on.
  18. FWIW, this is according to Jayson Stark. If the Cubs want him for the remainder of this season then Piniella would not accept the job. Stark does not believe that Piniella would even jump into the middle of this mess. Plus, Stark believes Piniella is waiting for the Yankee job. If the Yankees do not make the playoffs, he is certain that Torre will be fired even though they have been hampered by injuries. He said this yesterday on ESPN radio(Mike and Mike In the Morning). Personally, I would be glad if he turned it down.
  19. Good thing for the other top pick teams that the Pirates will draft on signability rather than choosing the best player.
  20. Don't watch the game. Why? It is my vacation away from the Cubs.
  21. According to the front page of mlb.com, AJ has a slim lead in voting followed by Liriano and the Hafner. Voting last until 6 pm est tonight. Note: I don't really care if AJ gets in even though both Liriano and Hafner are more deserving. For that matter,Ramon Hernandez is more deserving. But, I just don't want to listen to Buck and McCarver malign Barrett and what he did. AJ will get in and they will use him as a segue to talk about Barrett and frustration and the Cubs' overall frustration.
  22. The Cardinals are getting closer to becoming the Angels east. Edmonds Eckstein Weaver Spezio Yadier........does any Molina brother = LA Angel?
  23. How stacked is the A.L. with outfielders? It's scary. Either all of these guys are playing WAY above their heads (more than likely Dye, Cuddyer, Swisher, Nixon) or it'll be tough for anyone to make the all star team. I think Swisher is young and just coming into his own. He was a first round draft pick for a reason. I think he'll be a force to reckon with for years to come. Probably see him in a Yankee uniform in a few years. :(
