    That's sort of the problem you get when your GM is an incompetent dunce like Hendry. He ends up telling individual players that they are going to do this and that, when any sane manager is going to try to play his best performing players. This is why Lou brought up Theriot with the big league club, and this is why Theriot doesn't get the appropriate amount of playing time. Jim Hendry has ruined our chances.

    I went with Lilly vs. Piniella, just cause I think Lilly appears to have a dark side. Jones and Pierre would be funny, watching them try to land punches with those noodle arms. The fight would last for days.

    Idealy, I would have Dunn in LF. He is a free agent this offseason, no? If we can get rid of Jones and package Murton in some sort of deal then this would be a golden opportunity. I could care less about his defense, the guy rakes. An outfield of Dunn, Pie, and Soriano next year would be 'eh' defensively, and pretty good offensively. /end dream state

    I'm pretty sure Barrett was going to the Cubs all along in that trade, just that the A's had something that Montreal wanted and the Cubs had something the A's wanted, so it was just a roundabout way to get Barrett, IIRC

    Instead we'll probably get a Cubs-like cold streak that last about, say, 3 more months. That being said, I don't think mid-80's in wins is out of the question, just hard to fathom the one and only Chicago Cubs turning things around and playing... baseball.

    I tried to pick them all but it wouldn't work, so I went with Eyre, if only for the simple reason that he is fresh in my memory. Truth be told, I hate all of them equally, with the exception of Ohman.
