  1. What do you think?
  2. :kicks self: typo in the heat of the moment. +/- 5 wins a season. I wouldn't say this stat is true every time, but at the very least is a good indicator of how important a manager really is.
  3. I like Michael Barrett for the most part, but his bat isn't really doing much at the moment. That being said, neither is anyone else's on the Cubs, save Aramis Ramirez, so it's hard to hold it against him.
  4. Point taken. From now on, that is.
  5. No, he doesn't. Not even close, really. Are we really arguing over a below average player and an even more below average player? You are very correct there. Not really. VORP/WARP in '06 Matt Murton: 16.2/4.5 Angel Pagan: -2.7/1.0 Murton sucks as an outfielder and can't drive in runs, what do miss about those facts? BTW, it is 2007 and Murton has done NOTHING. Excellent analysis of the numbers at hand. If you were at all reasonable in your analysis and used something like, say, numbers, instead of your 'impression' based on what you've 'seen', you may notice that all of Murton's poor defense has come in RF. In case you didn't know, Matt Murton is a left fielder. And as a left fielder, he has an above-average fielding percentage over his small and limited career. You also might notice that Matt Murton has also received little and sporadic playing time, which, when it comes to offense, tends to depress one's output. Is it really 2007? I hadn't noticed... You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

  7. fixed You're right, I really should know better. I disagree with the notion that Murton is below average, though. I think Murton is more or less exactly average for a corner outfielder. Average is pretty valuable. Not in a lineup already filled with several average or below average players. I like Murton, but I think he's below average in base running, defense and average offensively. That's why I call him below average. whoah, those are some huge letters. i didn't even bother reading them.
  8. The throwing error was a relatively minor issue. If the ball doesn't get past him, it's not an issue at all. For that matter, it wouldn't really have been an issue if Zambrano hadn't totally sucked, either. It's certainly not justification for calling Barrett out right there in the dugout. Barrett deserved to be reprimanded for his lack of concentration and awareness. Just not by Z, the master of meltdowns and resident wacko. And certainly not in the demonstratively childish way he was, either. Word.
  9. What they're not responding to is the baseball, not their manager. Managers are only on the hook for +/- 5 wins a game. It'd be a real stretch to say that Lou is responsible for 5 losses so far. And Michael Barrett sucks, and so does Joe Girardi. He's a younger Dusty Baker, dude. Not saying Lou is excellent, but Girardi's success (one season mind you) is based on a bunch of overperforming youngsters. Michael Barrett>>>>>>>>Lou Piniella when it comes to having a negative effect on the team
  10. Knocked him out cold? He didn't even fall down. Zambrano would and probably did own Barrett in the clubhouse scrum.
  11. No, he doesn't. Not even close, really. QFT. Matt Murton belongs on a major league roster. Angel Pagan does not.
  12. What are you talking about? The Cubs' roster is full of untouchable players. (From the rest of the league's perspective, of course.) Zing!
  13. The more I think about it, I think Barrett deserves blame! Carlos went up to the clubhouse while MB was on the bench. Obviously, Barrett ended up following Z and a second fight ensued. That was unnecessary. MB has played horribly this year. Hell, his stupidity turned an already bad outing into a rout (coupled with some of the other dumb things he's done in recent games...) Would Barrett have followed Z down there if Z hadn't started the first fight? Or if Lou had taken control? And who knows? Maybe Z was shouting profanities about Barrett's mother from the clubhouse? Long story short, Z at the very least antagonized Barrett and goaded him into the first confrontation. Was Barrett wrong to follow Barrett to the clubhouse? Absolutely. But this wasn't near so much his fault as Lou is pretending it is. How exactly do you propose Lou 'taking control'. Something such as telling Z to get the [heck] out of there and expecting Michael Barrett to behave like a grown man? I dunno, send Z off, grab Barrett, give him a good yell to "sit the hell down right there" instead of letting him wander around? Pretty much the same way I take control of my drunk friends when they start fighting? The one that always works? Comparing a major league baseball player to your drunk friends isn't really a fitting comparison. Michael Barrett is a grown man and should have known better, hurt pride or not. I just don't see how any blame can be put on Lou for this one. These were two knuckleheads doing knucklehead things, and instead of being adults, they behaved like children.
  14. Sometimes you have to own it. First Barrett calls for a pitch and gets crossed up Then he makes a really stupid play to compound the already stupid cross up. I looked to me like Z was telling Barrett to use his head. I can't think of a clever analogy right now, but if there's one thing Barrett has shown time and time again, it's an inability to not use his head.

  16. You guys are racist. Obviously, as a member of an oppressed minority, Z was lashing out at his white overlord, and rightfully so. racists.
  17. I've seen three different angles multiple times each now. Barrett didn't charge Z in any meaningful sense of the word. He stepped towards him and began to raise his hands from the comcast camera angle. Either way, they're both idiots whose days on the Chicago Cubs are numbered.
  18. You can't be serious.
  19. Lou made it sound like Barrett got F'ed in the A. That's what he gets for being a doofus and following Z into the clubhouse. Moron.
  20. He should be hinting that some of the players are a waste of space. Mainly Scott Eyre. Well he's not going to call out individual players, but that's basically what he said. He has no control over who is and isn't on the team, and it's obviously frustrating him that Hendry isn't listening to him. Hendry's career is circling the drain.
