  1. I thought that was Kenny Mayne. Yeah...I think it was Kenny.
  2. Does he sell pan pizza by the slice?
  3. State ownership of pretty much anything hurts, IMO... Especially this state.
  4. I'd rather the stadium be sold with the team, even if that means the name changes. I think state ownership would hurt more than a name change.
  5. My guess is that last year Lou was telling him specifically when to run. This year, because he was successful last year, Lou is probably letting him decide on his own when to run, and it's not working as well (obviously).
  6. All stats coming into the day: The bullpen has a 3.85 ERA...solidly middle of the pack. Lieber has a 1.86 ERA as a reliever. Sean Marshall has a 2.70 ERA.
  7. But he did. He threw a meatball to Dunn. But he did his part for the inning not to even get to Dunn. Not facing Dunn that inning= impossible for Dunn to hit a home run that inning. Now I guess you could argue that Dunn would have hit the home run leading off the next inning, but everything would have been different. And ERA handles the matter by presuming that Dempster doesn't face Dunn at all that time in the lineup. Which is clearly wrong. The fact is that the error is a poor tool for measuring defense, and thus next to worthless in trying to evaluate pitchers in a defense-neutral context. It's an utterly meaningless distinction. Yes, this. How about this...lets say that Dunn didn't hit a homer. He hit a ground ball to third and the third baseman boots it...everyone is safe. Shouldn't we not give the 3B an error because he never would have made that error if it weren't for the error that previously kept the inning alive? (Crappy wording, but hope you get the gist.)
  8. Think Lovie wanted to see some of the rookies before cutting AA?
  9. Why. Red is like Harry. They can't do this. Red was getting to the point that the travel was difficult if the article is to be believed. No idea on Wennington, Jon. The article didn't mention.
  10. The Bulls got rid of Tom Dore and Wayne Larrivee as TV broadcasters, and Johnny Kerr will only be doing pregame and halftime stuff now. Neil Funk will move from radio to TV. Chuck Swirsky will take over on the radio. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls/cs-080506-chicago-bulls-broadcasters,1,1263760.story
  11. I think the only way you get a vet for the 3rd QB is if both Hanie and Hill just look miserable. There's always an old vet that can be picked up from retirement or something if you have to have one...
  12. I wonder how many pitches we are seeing with the bases loaded? I wonder if the plate approach is different in that situation?
  13. One inning of good offense in three games and you should have swept? Hmm... Please keep hoping for the pixie dust to work. We gave away the first game and anyone who was watching knows it. wolf is right. i think he completely understands that the cardinals aren't as good as they've been playing. but at the same time, it's not like the cubs played brilliantly against the cards and got unlucky. Yep. You might be able to blame Soriano for Friday, but there's no excuses for Sunday. I just tell my Card fan buddies that the Cubs won the series because they outscored the Cards. :good:
  14. But he did. He threw a meatball to Dunn.
  15. I don't think so. Baseball is a team game unless the pitcher strikes out 27 guys and gives up no hits. If a player makes an error in the field (non pitcher) and the next guy comes up and hits a tater why should the pitcher bear the brunt? Why should he get off scott free? He still gave up the tater. He also did what he needed to do to get out of the inning, and the defense let him down. I'm not asking that unearned runs go away, but I just don't see a homer as unearned. Count the runner that got on because of there error unearned, fine, but Dunn should've been earned IMO. How many times do guys save pitchers earned runs with spectacular plays on balls that should have been hits? You don't see them saying "Well that SHOULD have been a run scoring triple, but so and so just made a great diving catch, but we'll count it on my ERA because it SHOULD have fallen in."

  17. I'm glad someone started this thread, because I thought this rule was pretty ridiculous. Calling a homer unearned is just dumb...no matter what happen prior to it.
  18. My thread remains intact. That's all that matters. He should have kept mine...may have been a minute later, but at least it had a link. Oh - and OMC started one in the non-Cubs forum. We love us some JJ round here. You snooze, you lose. Breaking news doesn't have time for a link. Post first. Link later. :) GR's post is still up there now anyway that I've mastered the art of the merge.

  20. My thread remains intact. That's all that matters. Found them. For some reason I'd merged them into the payroll thread...lol
  21. I attempted to merge the two threads, and I seem to have lost a post or two. Oops.
  22. White Sox inferiority complex strikes again.
  23. Not ridiculously, but significantly? Possibly, if he thinks the ROI is good enough to cover it, and if he thinks that's what it'll take to get a deal done.
  24. Peter King is doing team rankings already. The Bears are 25th. Guess which position concerns Mr King the most? 3 guesses, first 2 don't count. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/peter_king/05/02/rankings/3.html
