  1. I don't know how actually believing in this nonsense doesn't sap any interest you have. I have a co-worker that's been an NBA nut for as long as I've known him, but he's also the biggest "NBA is fixed" conspiracy theory guy that I've ever met. I think he as more fun trying to predict "fixes" than he does with the basketball. And boy do I hear about it if he's right about the outcome..

  3. It makes me nervous. Crawford would have no problem sending LeBron and Wade to the line 15 times each. Noah and Boozer need to be careful.
  4. Are you talking about the situation in general or what he said in the article? The situation in general. You got to control yourself in this day and age with cameras around, especially after what happened to Kobe. That's the real idiocy, you saw what just went down with Kobe, how do you repeat the exact same slur? I'm a little surprised you have quotes from James and Deng somewhat excusing it based on cameras being everywhere and the fan being annoying. Not really savvy, just give a no comment and get yourself the hell out of that situation without dumping on your fellow player nor tacitly excusing the slur. Maybe they're afraid the camera will catch them someday, and are trying to pre-emptively excuse it for themselves?
  5. Investigate it, sure. Fine. It's all a educated guess in the end.
  6. Just stop with, "the appeal of signing Pujols is his playing ability" and you'll be fine. ;) Nope. Alright you want to take a crack at computing how Pujols is going to generate more than $30M in additional revenue all by himself? It's a gamble. Every signing is. You're gambling that Pujols can help you win, and that winning will bring in more revenue. If Pujols falls apart right after signing, the Cubs will lose money on the deal. There's no way to figure out the money that Pujols will bring in. The act of trying to is an activity I have no interest in. I believe that Pujols would help the Cubs win, and thus increase their income.

  8. Nooooooo. They're spending X payroll either way. If $130mil is the payroll budget, they'll spend ~$130 million with or without Pujols. Not if they're maximizing profits they won't. EDIT: before anyone gets even more confused, I'm not saying the Cubs SHOULD or WILL act to maximize profits. I'm just pointing out what the course of action would be if they did. I'll admit to being confused. Because what you're arguing doesn't matter. Who cares what they would do in a hypothetical scenario where winning is meaningless? The appeal of signing Pujols is the combination of playing ability and his "money making-ness". Of course it doesn't make financial sense if you take playing ability/winning out of the picture.

  10. It doesn't matter, but even for the sake of argument, that's the wrong question to be asking. It isn't "Will the money they make from Pujols outweight his cost?" It's "Will the money spent on Pujols bring in more money than the 4 other players that we would otherwise spend that money on?"
  11. And I explained as plainly as possible why you're wrong. You're not making money when your cost (salary) exceeds the revenue you generate. What's your fear? That the Cubs will go bankrupt from signing Pujols?

  14. And we have a longer wait between games 2 and 3. *sigh*
  15. This will surely lead the Bulls to victory. I love it when MJ openly roots for the Bulls. Since he's an owner of another team, it might not happen tonight. But it would still be sweet to see. It was a message board rumor, so don't put much stock in that one.
  16. This will surely lead the Bulls to victory. Jim Ross: Wait, what's that? IT'S MJ'S MUSIC!
  17. Also heard a rumor that MJ might be at the game tonight, since he was in town for Oprah's thing last night at the UC.

  19. Regular season offense on isolation plays - Miami ranked #1 with .93 PPP (points per possession) Regular season defense on isolation plays - Chicago ranked #1 with .74 PPP Game 1 of ECF isolation plays - Miami had .64 PPP Ouch. http://thepaintedarea.blogspot.com/2011/05/bulls-vs-heat-isolation-games.html Sorry to interrupt such riveting conversation.
  20. SSR answered this question in the post above yours (and yet people continue to mention other teams/players, while ignoring the obvious). Hakeem Olajuwon, 1994 Rockets. Their second best player was Otis Thorpe with Kenny Smith or Vernon Maxwell being the third best player. As for the Walton/Portland, Maurice Lucas was better than anyone, other than Olajuwon, on the 1994 Rockets (though Thorpe-Lucas are very comparable). Huh...without looking it up, I would've sworn that Drexler was on that team. But sure enough, he wasn't traded until midway through the next season.
  21. Each team has a representative in the room when the ping pong balls are drawn. How much more transparency is really necessary? I mean, if fans wanna think "conspiracy", that's one thing. But when GM comes out with that? Craziness. And it only reinforces the fan's theories. FWIW, Kahn says he was joking. I still think it's gonna prove to be an expensive joke.
