  1. Damn...the game isn't on here in Bloomington. Must not be close enough for the "local" WGN, just the Superstation...*sigh*
  2. Maybe Hendry is going "under the radar" with Giles??? Could it also be that the 11 day window when teams can not pursue other teams FAs hasn't exired yet? They're still in the exclusive negotiating window that teams have before others can start giving their FAs offers. Well right, but we've heard mention of the Cubs interest in the Furcal's and Burnett's, but not Giles.
  3. Maybe Hendry is going "under the radar" with Giles???
  4. Skiles said on ESPN 1000 that Hinrich has a minor sprained ankle and he is between questionable and probable for the Nets game. They had a quote from Heinrich on the Score where he said he's gonna test it out and that he wants to get out there for Saturday's game. He said that he's had worse sprains in that same ankle before. That this one turned out to be a lot more minor than orginally thought.
  5. True...my brain is still stuck in "5 team division" mode. I'll be all ready to go right about the time they realign again...
  6. Unfortunately for the Bears, they're on a crash course to be the 4th-place division winner, matching them up against the top wild card team. You're talking about Atlanta/Carolina or NY Giants/Philly (whichever of those teams don't win their divisions). That's a pretty darn tough draw. Pretty early to tell how the divisions will pan out. The Bears are only 1 game behind the division leaders of the other 3 NFC divisions, and with getting to play the North teams so often, I'd venture to say they probably have the easier schedule.
  7. That'll teach me not to go to bed in the middle of the 3rd quarter... :D
  8. [sarcasm] The White Sox will not have the almighty Carl Everett next year. [/sarcasm] They declined his option, but they COULD resign him... :P
  9. Uhhhh...ok I like rankings and polls and everything as much as the next guy, but isn't it just a wee bit early in the offseason to be ranking teams considering teams can't even sign free agents yet? The White Sox just won the World Series. What has changed between then and now that suddenly makes the Indians better?
  10. This post nicely outlines the reasoning for my Jeter comment in the original post. Jeter may be the best in the AL, but the competition isn't quite what it used to be either. Didn't mean to turn this thread into a Jeter discussion...my bad. :)
  11. Minute Maid might help get him hitting well better again...
  12.  BTW.. Can I be the first? NO TRADE CLAUSE NO TRADE CLAUSE NO TRADE CLAUSE NO TRADE CLAUSE NO TRADE CLAUSE NO TRADE CLAUSE NO TRADE CLAUSE NO TRADE CLAUSE NO TRADE CLAUSE NO TRADE CLAUSE NO TRADE CLAUSE NO TRADE CLAUSE!!!!!1111one1! Beat me to it....though I may not have repeated it quite so much...heh
  13. Jeter again...
  14. I'm hesitant to be thankful that Lost is a rerun tomorrow, but it should give me a chance to catch the Bulls game. :D
  15. Even if he didn't suck, he'd never come back while Baker is here.
  16. How 'bout the Land of the Rising Sun? Might be the place where he still has the most love.
  17. So I see that Sammy filed for free agency. Anyone care to speculate about where he might end up or how much he might get?
  18. They're in so much trouble that they will probably win the Central Division by only 10-12 games next year. Their policy of overspending for 1 player and hurting the overall team should hasn't seemed to hurt them the last few seasons. When last seen, the Cards were packing their cars after the Stros buried them. How did that Larry Walker deal work out for you? I don't think Backtobanks is a Cardinal fan, but is just stating an observation. Let's keep the smack talk in the Rivalries forum, if we have to do it at all.
  19. We was ready to accept $1.5 million, and declined it, but by all reports it wasn't because of money, it was organizational politics. You and Theo splitting the money?  I wish!
  20. Bruce mentioned something about Pierre as well. Link
  21. We was ready to accept $1.5 million, and declined it, but by all reports it wasn't because of money, it was organizational politics.
  22. Yeah, that's what I heard on WMVP at 4:20. That's because they based thier "news" on a "report"...the deal wasn't finished, everyone just assumed it would be.
  23. Dan thought that the Sox should pick up Burnitz to DH or for a bench bat based off his performance at the beginning of the year, thinking they could milk a full season out of him if he was part time. Stoney didn't think that would work because of Burnitz's long swing and having never been a part time guy. I'm guessing the thought process is that we wouldn't get Furcal, Giles and Damon, and the assumption was that we would get Damon. This wasn't said, but Damon's name was glossed over so quick it was like it was assumed.
  24. Steve Stone was just on with Boers and Bernstein on the Score. Paraphrasing what he said: The thing he would be concerned with about Giles is the decline in power, even given the home park he played in, he played 81 games on the road and still only hit 17(?) HRs. With Furcal you get a proven leadoff hitter, something the Cubs sorely need, you get a proven shortstop, and a switch hitter. He was also unsure whether Murton could be an everyday LF, and was uncertain of his power. Thinks the Cubs may end up with Furcal and Damon.
  25. ugh, why? No stats to back it up, but he seems to get things going for the Cards quite a bit...
