  1. True. Also I googled Jim Hendry tenure. Fifth listing down gave me this press release, which included this quite: Hendry originally joined the club as the director of player development in 1994 and was named the scouting director the following year. In 2001, he was promoted to vice president of player personnel. You crazy computer geeks.
  2. Hendry originally joined the club as the director of player development in 1994 and was named the scouting director the following year. In 2001, he was promoted to vice president of player personnel. This team is entirely of Jim Hendry's making. There is no more "cleaning up others' mess" excuse. He's been a huge part of this organization for over a decade, and in charge for 4 years. Before that he played a crucial role in nearly all personel decisions. Thanks...I didn't know the specifics. Goony did because he is Jim Hendry. Goony with some self hate?
  3. He talked about it on ESPN radio. Yeah, that's what I meant by the bolded section. Just was pointing out that his blog doesn't say anything about it. I doubt that really means anything, which is why I surrounded it with my "disclaimer"... :D

  5. I could be wrong, and I'm sure someone will have this info better than I, but wasn't Hendry majorly involved in scouting and the farm system prior to becoming GM?
  6. Yeah, that is why i scratched my head. I can understand this if there is day Cubs or Sox game but i was near a TV today and turned to ESPN to see Pujols at bat (yes, i watch ALL baseball) and ESPNews was on??? I don't understand as i am in Chicago - Cubs/Sox country! Do you get Fox Sports Midwest? Cardinals are on there a lot.
  7. [entirely unfounded conspiracy theory] You know it's interesting. Despite reportedly having said that he would have an interest in the Cubs in the past, there are no references on blogmaverick.com about any interest in either the Cubs or owning a baseball team. You would think if he had an interest, he'd mention it at some point, maybe in passing, unless possibly he was already in some kind of talks?? [/entirely unfounded conspiracy theory]
  8. Brooks Kieschnick (sp?) Kevin Orie Bobby Hill Hee Seop Choi Corey Patterson Jason Dubois :P
  9. It's also why the NY media LOVES Steinbrenner...he makes for a great quote. :P
  10. Damn, I missed the "really wealthy club" meeting. Tuesdays...they moved it to Tuesdays. I thought I told you....my bad. :D
  11. Awww...poor George having to deal with a slouch of a talent like A-Rod... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2440246
  12. Winning isn't easy. But Cuban is a "fan's owner" if there ever was one, and he would be an owner with an actual interest in the team's success. He'd been an enthusiastic, active owner, and that's easy to get behind. The Mavericks were a bad, bad team back in the Jordan days, and Cuban has really helped that team rise from the ashes. And if nothing else, the Mavericks are consistently competitive. Making the playoffs every year could be fun change.
  13. Think they'd let him be in the dugout?? That'd be good times.
  14. I think Niekro is striking out on purpose.
  15. I was thinking "Everybody must get stoned"
  16. lol...if Vizquel went yard, I might have started giggling uncontrollably.
  17. If your manager doesn't have any fire or fight in him, why would the team?
  18. I have no idea why I waste 3 hours of my nights on this...
  19. the bullpen is dusty-proof though Am I the only one not excited about the bullpen? Don't get me wrong, Eyre is a nice upgrade and Dempster has been better than I expected. But, Hendry is going on 3 years of making the bullpen an offseason priority and I don't see that much of an appreciable difference to date. That being said, I haven't looked at their stats recently. I see the difference, but I don't see us getting to the bullpen with a lead, so it's a moot point.
  20. Fire Dusty. Fire Jones. Fire Neifi. tommorrow. This crapola of a team needs some overhauling. I no longer understand the criticism of Perez and Jones and Pierre. These guys were not stellar players immediately before their arrival to the Cubs so why would we think they'd be better? I understand criticizing good players who are playing subpar like Ramirez, Walker (of late) and Zambrano, but why criticize sucky players? If anything, Hendry should get severe criticism for signing these guys. What percent of people on here were in favor or re-signing Perez and signing Pierre and Jones? If I remember correctly, it was low. So we shouldn't say that sucky players suck? Of course you can. But follow it up with sucky GMs suck. Oh I think there's plenty of Hendry sucks threads and even comments in this thread. But when watching the game, the sucky players are the ones on my screen....so they get my wrath at the moment. :)
  21. He should've been pulled sooner. Let Eyre come in with the bases clear. No reason to tag extra runs on the kid. pull him after 5? After 6. He shouldn't have started the 7th.
