  1. I did not know that. Well, he'd help with platoons I guess. But the Cubs also suck against RH pitchers. And is there any likelihood of facing a string of lefties like they did before (really, I don't know, I've blocked that time out and don't remember who it was). He'd be the equivalent of a LOOGY, Ohman but much older and with no upside and 5-6 times the cost. Weren't a lot of those lefties on division opponents? If so, it's a good chance we'll see more of them.
  2. My theory: Sosa was at his peak, and probably had the most influence he's ever had at that point. That combined with the fact that they went from 9 games over .500 in July of 1999, to finish the season 67-95 was enough for Ed Lynch to make a desperation move to try to save his own job.
  3. It depends on how much they need that 600 million right now. To put it another way, if you owned a $500,000 two story apartment building that made around $20,000 a year in rent after expenses/taxes, would you sell it for $600,000? I wouldn't. Yep...just depends on how much in debt they are.
  4. I'll be your proxy. Write me a check and I'll take it to the Cubs...I swear... 8-[
  5. True. Also I googled Jim Hendry tenure. Fifth listing down gave me this press release, which included this quite: Hendry originally joined the club as the director of player development in 1994 and was named the scouting director the following year. In 2001, he was promoted to vice president of player personnel. You crazy computer geeks.
  6. Hendry originally joined the club as the director of player development in 1994 and was named the scouting director the following year. In 2001, he was promoted to vice president of player personnel. This team is entirely of Jim Hendry's making. There is no more "cleaning up others' mess" excuse. He's been a huge part of this organization for over a decade, and in charge for 4 years. Before that he played a crucial role in nearly all personel decisions. Thanks...I didn't know the specifics. Goony did because he is Jim Hendry. Goony with some self hate?
  7. He talked about it on ESPN radio. Yeah, that's what I meant by the bolded section. Just was pointing out that his blog doesn't say anything about it. I doubt that really means anything, which is why I surrounded it with my "disclaimer"... :D

  9. I could be wrong, and I'm sure someone will have this info better than I, but wasn't Hendry majorly involved in scouting and the farm system prior to becoming GM?
  10. Yeah, that is why i scratched my head. I can understand this if there is day Cubs or Sox game but i was near a TV today and turned to ESPN to see Pujols at bat (yes, i watch ALL baseball) and ESPNews was on??? I don't understand as i am in Chicago - Cubs/Sox country! Do you get Fox Sports Midwest? Cardinals are on there a lot.
  11. [entirely unfounded conspiracy theory] You know it's interesting. Despite reportedly having said that he would have an interest in the Cubs in the past, there are no references on blogmaverick.com about any interest in either the Cubs or owning a baseball team. You would think if he had an interest, he'd mention it at some point, maybe in passing, unless possibly he was already in some kind of talks?? [/entirely unfounded conspiracy theory]
  12. Brooks Kieschnick (sp?) Kevin Orie Bobby Hill Hee Seop Choi Corey Patterson Jason Dubois :P
  13. It's also why the NY media LOVES Steinbrenner...he makes for a great quote. :P
  14. Damn, I missed the "really wealthy club" meeting. Tuesdays...they moved it to Tuesdays. I thought I told you....my bad. :D
  15. Awww...poor George having to deal with a slouch of a talent like A-Rod... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2440246
  16. Winning isn't easy. But Cuban is a "fan's owner" if there ever was one, and he would be an owner with an actual interest in the team's success. He'd been an enthusiastic, active owner, and that's easy to get behind. The Mavericks were a bad, bad team back in the Jordan days, and Cuban has really helped that team rise from the ashes. And if nothing else, the Mavericks are consistently competitive. Making the playoffs every year could be fun change.
  17. Think they'd let him be in the dugout?? That'd be good times.
  18. I think Niekro is striking out on purpose.
  19. I was thinking "Everybody must get stoned"
  20. lol...if Vizquel went yard, I might have started giggling uncontrollably.
  21. If your manager doesn't have any fire or fight in him, why would the team?
