I like that idea, too. .. .. I just haven't figured out who wuld be our lead off hitter. Our fearless leaders would be tempted to put Izturis there. Or sign Soriano and use him there.... Soriano will be looking to move back to 2B though which does nothing to help our OF. I'd rather keep Izturis/Cedeno up the middle and try for a big bat in the OF. If we decide that Murton isn't the answer in LF, I wouldn't mind seeing Hendry go after Mench if he's rather cheap and then go all-out for a RF. Why not go for Soriano at 2b AND a big bat in the OF? -

I wish Dusty were man enough to make a statement like that. How much of a man does it make Hendry for him to make that statement, and then continue his non-OBP, fast, toolsy player philosophy that has utterly failed this year? Jimbo's an incompetent dumbass, but I respect him for taking some responsibility for his mistakes. Is responsibility simply apologizing? I guess I'm not impressed until he fixes those mistakes...and I've not seen any signs that is close to happening.

That makes a big difference in how I feel about the whole thing, even though I still don't like it. It's a balmy 72 degrees here in my office Bruce...not sure what the problem is... :sunny:

So LF is the only new face you think we'll see on an absolutely horrible team next year? I think we'll see new faces at LF, 2B, and SS. I think Izturis becomes defense off the bench for hopefully a smarter manager. A smarter manager also puts Pierre down in the order somewhere, and gets some OBP (that we'd obviously have to get through trade or FA) up at the top.

What was the conflict between he and the Sun-Times, anyway? Guess I must have missed that..... He accused the Sun-Times of not defending him when Ozzie Guillen made his verbal tirade against Mariotti.

Lets say the Cubs sign a baseball player that stinks (I know...real stretch...work with me). Would you settle for the argument "He's no worse that X bad player or Y bad player"?? I guess the fact that other sports editorial guys around the country aren't worth reading or listening to doesn't mean that Mariotti is worth reading or listening to...for me anyway. Part of the reason I'm so active on these boards is for much more informed opinion.

How the offense performs this year is really what I think is going to determine the level of success of this team this year.

According to the Trib article, Prior's had was just cramping up a bit after throwing over 100 pitches, for what I think is the first time this season. Nothing to be concerned about...I think...
