  2. Not sure I agree with that. So you would trade Zambrano in the middle of the season if he is not going to re-sign with the Cubs? What if the Cubs are in the playoff race, then would you still trade him? So your options would be to either trade Zambrano now, which would make no sense, or you trade him in the middle of the season when the Cubs are in the playoff chase. Im keeping Zambrano. That probably depends a whole lot on what Prior, Miller, and Wood are doing healthwise and performance-wise.
  3. I'm afraid of what we'd have to give up for him.
  4. I think this part is exactly where we'd end up if this trade ever happened.
  5. I wonder if they would take Griese for Carr, stright up. Griese and a late round pick for Carr? I'd be interested. I'd let Grossman and Carr battle it out in camp. I'd definitely be interested. A little competition may help Grossman. Or hurt him. It looked to me that Lovie was trying to build up his confidence and this move would shoot that all work down. It was pretty clear to me during the Superbowl, that the Bears have very little confidence in Grossman. He wasn't asked to do anything in that game until the 4th. They made every effort to hide him. Maybe but with all the Lovie talk about Rex being the QB made me think that he was doing it to build up his confidence. Sure, cuz you want to get the best out of him since you had to ride him out for the season...but if you can get someone in there to compete for the job, then you won't have to coddle him so much.

  7. Ok here's a link to the Carr rumor: http://blogs.chron.com/jeromesolomon/2007/01/carr_talk_around_the_nfl.html And here's a link to the Houston message board where they seem to like the idea... http://www.texanstalk.com/cgi-bin/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1169825707/0
  8. Some of you will hate this post because you don't like speculation about big names like A-Rod or Adam Dunn over and over again. Sorry. ESPN.com has an article about A-rod having an escape clausethat he can utilize after the 07 season, and how there's speculation that he will use it to get out from under the New York spotlight. Obviously the Cubs spent huge this summer, and not being a payroll whiz I don't know if the numbers would work out. I believe Izturis is in the last year of his deal (assuming the Cubs won't pick up the option), so SS will be available. Just thought I'd throw this out there for discussion.
  9. Prince covering the Foo Fighters is just freaking weird.
  10. Statistically David Carr has been very good on a bad team. I'd be interested. Do the Texans just want to spend the money at other positions? Do they have someone waiting in the wings that I'm not aware of?
  11. He hardly ever gets a chance to do anything? That's blatant homeristic nonsense. Eli has had plenty of chances, and he's blown nearly all of them. He's had 7 fourth quarter comebacks in his career with the Giants. Given that, I much rather would have had him than blunder the boy wonder Grossman Sunday night during the fourth quarter. Is it possible that the Bears didn't have the need for many comebacks this season? I'm just saying...
  12. Those two events aren't mutually exclusive.
  13. Jan because she's so smart and so dumb all at the same time. I would've voted for Pam, but she's so irritating with how she's handled the whole Jim thing.
  14. I went with Jim, but I had the same dilemma.
  15. He wasn't the only one biting. The mighty Braves ended up with him after all.
  16. Two reasons this is true. 1) Lovie and Ron showed an unwavering faith in Rex, and that will carry over to next year. 2) The possibilities for bringing in a better QB through FA or the draft are basically zero. The McNabb rumors are nothing more than that, rumors. There was a previous question about whether the Bears should give up their #1 pick for a QB. Given who's available, and given how strongly the Bears have drafted over the past few years, the answer is no. While I agree that the QB spot will probably remain the same, I disagree with the assertion that the unwavering faith will carry over to next year. The Bears were willing to live through Rex's growing pains in his first full season, but if he's having the same troubles in his second season, I could see them easily making a change. In fact I don't think he's guaranteed the starter position. If Orton or Griese has a better camp, I think you could see a change. Griese clearly had the better preseason in 2006 and Lovie and Turner went with Grossman. I can't see another pre-season struggle by Rex causing Lovie to give Griese the starting QB job. Orton's upside is capped, he just doesn't have the talent to be anything more than a backup who can come in and avoid mistakes. You Bear fans know this better than I do but with Turners throw the ball downfield theory isn't the better option Grossman? If they were more West Coast I could see Griese as being the choice but not with this offensive scheme. Plus I heard that Greise had shoulder problems and his arm looked weak. Is Turner's "throw the ball downfield" theory because he's using the strengths of the QB though? They didn't throw downfield a lot with Orton because it wasn't his strength. (Well and he just didn't know all of the plays.) Why would they have signed Griese if he wasn't a QB that would fit the offensive philosophy?
  17. Well we'll have to agree to disagree then. I don't think Orton's upside is capped...there's no way for us to know how he's developed this year. Grossman was going to get the benefit of the doubt this year because the Bears had to find out what they have in Grossman. As soon as they think they know what they have, they'll decide whether he's the right guy to lead this team. Again, I just think the leash will be shorter after a "freebie" season.

  19. I think the Bears fanbase contributed a wee bit too...
  20. Exactly. Everything is supposed to be HD sooner or later. And to touch on a point in your first post in this topic, MLB stood to make 70m this year from JUST the cable companies. That would not include the offers ponied up by Dish and DirecTV and any other service to continue providing the service as they have in the past. The combined totals might have surpassed the 100m they stand to make by going exclusive with DirecTV. Seems like a poor decision to me. Amateur economist or not. I'm not sure that you guys are actually correct on the mandate that all programming is to be in HD...I'm pretty sure that it's that all programming must be digital rather than analog.
  21. I'm pretty sure it was Chris Harris. I remember him talking to peanut after that play. Does anybody have a video of the play? I've looked on youtube and couldn't find anything. The Super Bowl was deleted off of my DVR as soon as I got home.
  22. Trade Urlacher NOW!!!! I don't buy that it was on Urlacher. I think that's more Urlacher protecting his guys.
  23. If by "average" you mean he wasn't the 2003 version, then fine, but that was just a great year...he was still an above average pitcher in 2005, the last time he had a healthy season.
  24. My bad...I assumed the announcers were right when they said it was Chris Harris....
  25. Disagree, the only players without blame are Hester and Gould, imo. The defense gets off a bit for being on the field for 40 minutes, but the lines were awful, the coaching was awful, Benson and Reed had crucial turnovers, Grossman wasn't that great, Chris Harris blew the coverage on the Colts' first TD and the defense missed tackles all over the map. The defense also gets a bit of a break for generating a couple fumbles, and for shutting down Indy in the red zone for the bulk of the game. Thomas Jones didn't really do much to get a lot of blame either...when a running play was called, he was pretty effective overall.
