  1. I just had a big argument/discussion with a co-worker. We were discussing Mcgwire's HOF chances vs Sammy's HOF chances. We weren't arguing stats, as we both agreed that stats would put both of them in the HOF. I argued that Sammy had a better chance for a number of reasons: 1) There has never been even the accusation that anyone has ever seen Sammy do any kind of steroid. Meanwhile, Canseco said in his book that he'd seen Mcgwire use them, as well as reports that a known steroid dealer said he'd seen Mcgwire use them as well. 2) Sammy is much easier for the media and baseball writers (who vote for the HOF) to get along with than the likes of Mcgwire and Bonds. 3) Sammy outright denied using steroids in the congressional hearings, while Mcgwire danced around his answers. 4) With Sammy coming back, he has a chance to repair some of his public perception by laying low, doing his job on a much less scrutinized team than either the Cubs or the Orioles. Also he delays any HOF vote. Time can only be his friend here.
  2. Over 3300 Americans have died in the Iraq war since it began 4 years ago, and I don't recall stopping any games for them. As tragic as the Virginia Tech thing is...I don't see how that's more significant than those soldiers deaths.
  3. I'm sure that as much as he likes to hit, he think he should be doing better right now at pitching.
  4. well, that's twice floyd's made the third out "with the game on the line." changed your mind yet? Ruh Roh Aramis Fan, Floyd just completely crapped his pants to end today's game. So that's one to three in favor of Floyd in our small sample size bonanza of baseball wisdom. You are a bigger joke than Murton sitting the bench. No need to make it personal. See the link in my sig for the rules on personal attacks.
  5. Fixed. Of course that reminded me to switch my pitchers around to get the maximum number of starts, which I might now have done without you reminding me of this. Thanks! :P
  6. It's unfortunate that our #1 pitcher is one of the worst offenders in this area.
  7. We don't hit homers anymore. That's really the biggest problem with this team. It's a team designed to score on homers...only we're not hitting homers. Yet. Well yeah...I can only comment what's already happened.

  9. Murton-o-meter: 3rd straight game not started.
  10. Oh how I long for the days when you were just a lurker. :D I was looking for just the right snarky comment to post about that....glad someone made one... :P
  11. I'll fix it when I get home tonight since the fantasy site is blocked here at work. I thought for sure they put him on the DL.
  12. Please provide an example of these "many pitchers" that had similar loads. Remember, we aren't talking IP, we're talking pitches.
  13. Grass is green? Only when it's uninjured.
  14. In Before the Lock
  15. All the info I need is to look back the past couple of years. And that tells you whether this injury is serious?
  16. I refuse to overreact until more info is available.
  17. Exactly. Fine, I'll do it. I hope you use the name "Goony's evil twin" when you sign the documents.
  18. If you don't want Soriano in the top 2 spots, wouldn't this make more sense? Murton Barrett/Derosa Soriano Lee Ramirez Jones Derosa/Barrett Izturis Don't you want Soriano's speed in front of Lee, Ramirez and Jones?
  19. I think the avatar should be a photo of yourself in the opposing teams uniform.
  20. I don't have a problem with this at this point in the season. Later in the season I might have some issues though.
  21. 1) No question. But he hasn't had a lot of at bats to do that, and I'm not really suggesting this as a way to get Murton on track, but instead as a way to get Soriano on track. This just happens to help Soriano while not hurting Murton. 2) It wouldn't hurt to mention it to Soriano though. He might welcome a change given how he's started.
  22. I can understand your position. All I'm saying is we can't deny that people with an inside perspective, on the type of owner that is likely to be approved, say that Cuban has no shot. Wasn't it Rosenthal that said the Cubs had signed Pudge Rodriguez a couple years back? I can understand that Rosenthal's information needs to be factored in, but I wouldn't take it as gospel. He's only human. He can be wrong too.
  23. The Trib has a story about the number 2 hitters not helping Soriano out, because he's getting no protection in the lineup, even though 3-4-5 are hitting. Why not try bumping Soriano back to number 2 in the lineup and let someone like Murton hit leadoff? I know I know, he's not fast. But hitting in front of all those hitters, he should see pitches to hit, and get back to his selective at bats that he's been missing earlier in the season. It would give Soriano better pitches to see, and really solidify the top of the order IMO. Flame on.
  24. I hate all the primetime games. I like watching football during the day on Sundays. I can't argue with that. I love noon kickoffs. But considering we knew they'd have their share of national TV games this season, I'm glad I don't have to wait until Monday more than once. Yeah, and NBC's coverage is actually really good IMO.
  25. Yay. It's another "quit being so negative thread." This thread might be worth review.
