I would have given anything to be there. I immediately got goose bumps (amidst running wild up and down the stairs). Does anyone know if any posters were there? A few people were talking about being worried about the weather before the game, since they had tickets. We should be hearing back from them once they sober up. I would be about three sheets to the wind by now if I was there. Heck, as it is I made a beeline for a tall boy when Helton popped out.

just as impressive as 3 strikeouts on 10 pitches is that they were all looking. From my memory, the last cub pitcher with a performance as dominating as that was ten years ago this month. What did Wuertz striking out the side with the bases loaded look like on a pitch by pitch basis? That was one of the best middle relief performances I've ever seen. I remember that game, but I don't think I was able to watch it. If/when Wuertz and Howry get back to their normal, reliable selves, we will have a really great pen.

I took a shower during the top and some of the bottom of the seventh. When I got out I told myself that if it was 6-9 we would have a chance. I turn on my monitor and it's 6-9 and a few seconds later Edmonds makes it 8-9. I really love this team. I've never been as excited about the cubs as I am right now.

And pray that no one ever hits a ball to the outfield in an important situation? Positional shuffles are rarely the answer. A real CFer is. I thought that it was widely reported that Kosuke had experience in CF and was a fairly competent fielder. Edmonds just bought himself another few games.

Well that wasn't Lofton's fault. He had a 120+ OPS with the cubs. Yes, but that's not the point. There's this fantasy out there that having a guy like Lofton "sparked" the offense and led us to the playoffs. The offense got worse, the pitching got enough better to make up for it. Still, the point remains the same that his contributions helped the club. He obviously has no control over what the players around him do. That said, I'm not sure what to expect right now. He's old and would inevitably be rusty. Just bring back Pie and pray that we haven't screwed him up completely.
