  1. The trade isn't that bad once you hear how much money the cubs saved. Though i still would've preferred Castillo from the Mets in some kind of deal. It makes you wonder that maybe the Rays weren't willing to take anything of miltons salary. It also depends on what hendry does with that money. They really didn't save much, and they downgraded talent. One team came out of this deal with a useful asset, and it wasn't the Cubs. Saving 6 million over two years is better than nothing. Having Carlos Silva in your rotation is worse than nothing. And the $6 million is only as useful as what you spend it on.
  2. It's a trait of any bad manager in any other industry ... he's just singularly concerned about putting out today's fire and crossing out the top bullet point on the "To Do" list for the sake of supposed progress.
  3. Ever find yourself longing for the halcyon days of the Jason Marquis for 3/$21 signing?
  4. Do you have a link for that? I'd love to see http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/marinersblog/2010540994_carlos_silva_for_milton_bradle.html
  5. Bah. Opponents are currently hitting .400 against Silva in the Venezuelan Winter League.
  6. So with Soriano and Silva, do the Cubs have the two worst contracts in baseball on the same roster?
  7. Looks like Harden just wants to try a 1 year deal to rebuild his value and try it again next season ... which makes signing with the Rangers and playing in that ballpark especially odd. No doubt they were the highest bidder, but he really couldn't find anything even close to 1 year/7.5 from anyone else? And to do it so early signifies he wanted to get the money while it was available. Not a good omen for other free agents.
  8. Also less gritty and lacking guys who "bring their lunchbox".
  9. Gregg gets the title since Todd Jones retired. Gregg makes Joe Borowski look electric.
  10. What was the consensus forecast on Dempster last year?
  11. The Reds ate 3.5 million last year to just dump Stanton. Everyone goes ga-ga over the superstar salaries, but the real bandits are the loogys like Stanton and Orosco who accumulate $1-$5 million a year over a 20 year career completely under the radar of fan or media scrutiny.
  12. Living in Dallas, he strikes me as a bit high maintenance too. Not necessarily a team cancer or a really bad guy, just someone who thinks he's a much bigger star than he actually is having been the big fish in a small pond for a few years. It's seems like he sometimes expects the Rangers FO to come to him before they make any move to get his stamp of approval because he's the team star. And now he throws a hissy because the Rangers brought up moving him to 3rd? It was painfully obvious that he's no longer even an average defensive SS last year. I would like to think someone who gave his employer a 96 OPS+ in return for a new 5 year/$80 million contract extension might show a little more flexibility, modesty and humility.
  13. Not so suspicious when within that same time frame is the worst financial crisis in most of our lifetimes. That can kind of throw a monkey wrench in plans to.
  14. You accused Wrigely Fans of being inherently and uniquely hostile to blacks players, so much to the point that Bradley would probably be less inclined to play with the Cubs. You point to one example of of where a player (allegedly) experienced racism for your proof. I counter by pointing to two examples of the opposite behavior in Wrigley Fans. We can go back and forth exchanging anecdotal experiences, but you still haven't shown me how Wrigely Fans are inherently and uniquely hostile towards black players anymore than they would receive playing any other city. While I have no doubt there may be racists at heart in the crowd of any sporting event, forgive me for being highly skeptical that words and slurs that might incite a beat down are openly, freely and loosely being thrown around around in a stadium of 45,000 people in a city with one of the largest black demographics in the US.
  15. The same right field bleacher Wrigley fans who used to give Sammy a standing ovation every time he took the field and would collectively kowtow to Andre Dawson? I think the issue with Jacque might have had more to do with the fact that he was horrible than some latent, inherent racism of Wrigley fans.
  16. So if Bradley's injuries/character issues put him a notch below Ibanez for market value, are we looking at 3-27? 2-20?
  17. I'm fine with using leverage, but if this means that Hendry is bailing out so he can get in the over-bidding war for Randy Johnson while there's still a chance there won't be enough puking emoticons to go around.
  18. I welcome getting C.C, Prince and Ankiel out of the division.
  19. Wasn't Randy Winn also rumored to be on the trading block at the deadline last year? edit: *Doh* saw he was listed as a possibility in the tread. Could definitely see the Giants eager to move him if they're trying to clear out salary for Furcal and Schierholtz is ready for the full time spot. Not that I'm in love with him by any means, but he could fit the mold for what Hendry (ie Lou) is looking for ... a guy who can bat lefty (switch) and possibly fill a top of the order spot.
  20. Does this mean that I have to go back to doing work today? I hate you Bruce.
  21. Sounds like nobodys more pumped tah Jake Sounds like Jake may have been drinking... He's getting acclimated to the Chicago lifestyle. He needs to understand that being a Farnsworth incarnate is not something to strive for. What about a Kerry Wood (before he got married) incarnate?

  23. I'm only aboard with Aurillia or Grudz if they come cheap and for one year. If not, just wait it out, even until the end of the offseason, and see if you can't find this year's Johnson/Edmonds on the waiver wire to fill that spot. When you possibly have the favorable starting pitching matchup of every single game, you have the leeway to wait it out on the 2nd base platoon role.
