  1. the Chiefs game last night seemed like a carbon copy of what Tim described on Sunday. With Kane County not particularly good as a team, it's tough to blow a 4 run lead that you get in the first inning. Ack. Hard to watch...and wish I could pinpoint it more, but what a mess.
  2. yep, I can remember Nate mentioning on the radio when the Chiefs were there early last season. It was cold and rainy, but the stands were packed. If I remember correctly, they're also affiliated with the Reds, so having the parent team so near (and the fan base to draw from) doesn't hurt either. They even have their own Dragon-mobile bus that takes them around.
  3. ok guys, you're making me puke now. and, honestly, there's no way she would bed you. Please.
  4. i think Vances kids are still really young I thought he only had a daughter? i was thinking that too, but wasnt sure Now that you say that, I sort of remember it too - perhaps a brother? Anyhoo, how many Nicholson families that are Cub fans can there be in Monroe?
  5. was that Thomas Nickelson the son of one Vance of Monroe, LA? I love that Len just said hi to him :D
  6. if you don't have a ticket yet, I'd go get one. Dayton is notorious for selling out every night, even when it's cold or rainy
  7. Maestri looked *really* good. It was exciting watching him pitch last night - hopefully there will be a lot more where that came from!
  8. Yowza. After watching him on Sunday, though, this is probably the best thing for him. I hope he gets things together and can come back to us soon.
  9. Sorry I didn't get around to posting this yesterday. Ceda looked really good in the first inning, struggled for control in the 2nd and 3rd and lost it in the 4th. Pawelek looked really great in his first inning too, then came out for his second inning and everything went to heck. It was warmer yesterday (still not *warm* but better) and at least the sun was out, but it was tough watching out pitchers. The couple of HBP that Mark had were nearly behind the hitters, so he's got some work ahead of him. The highlight for me was watching Oneri Fleita and his 2 little boys. Those are some cute kids, and did a really good job of keeping each other occupied while dad was working. When I saw them at spring training, they each had their own little uniforms with "Fleita" on the back. Anyway, there's plenty of potential for both Ceda & Pawelek - watch out when they get a little more polished!
  10. I'm envious of anyone who gets to see the Daytona game tonight. When we saw Wade Davis last year, his stuff was filthy. Those 2 pitchers, and there are going to be lots of frustrated hitters...
  11. it has started raining in Burlington...
  12. in the 2nd, Chiefs up 4-0 in Burlington. Castillo and Lansford with HR already. Woo hoo!
  13. Jeremy has a twin brother in the Boston system, to boot. Is the Cubs' Papelbon related? Yes, but here they all are, in case anyone needs help sorting out Papelbons this year! http://peoriachiefs.com.ismmedia.com/ISM3/thumbcache/4662e49ba0582eecc498d7059193bf84.200.jpg Jeremy Papelbon http://www.lowellspinners.com/images2/JoshPapelbon.jpg Josh Papelbon http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/2007/03/02/BttLvmYK.jpg Jonathan Papelbon
  14. the guy that we were sitting in front of at the game yesterday was also a Cub fan. After DeRosa hit the triple, he said something like "ok, I guess I like this guy after all. maybe he won't be so bad" Let's hope he keeps it up today and we get a cub sweep!
  15. Roof is closed and has been for awhile now. Temps will be in the 60's inside, the ball still flies out in the gaps and short down the line. The roof technically is "fixed" although it has been a mess ever since they installed it 4 years ago. thanks much :D We're going to be there all weekend, so have been trying to decide how to pack for 3 days! Guess I'm going with the long sleeve / turtlenecks under the various Cubs stuff + jacket. Suppose I'll need a blanket? hmmm... Our tickets are 5 rows from home plate today (we splurged for one game), with the other couple of games being back a little. Woo hoo, I'm very excited to see both Hill and Z. Miller we saw a bunch back in Peoria last year, but sounds like he's got his stuff back much more than when we saw him. Go Cubs!
  16. Hey there - thought it might be of interest that Donnie Veal appears to be keeping a journal for the season at the MiLB website. mmmmmm....VEAL!!! that is all :D
  17. just got back from the Peoria "Meet the Chiefs" dinner that the booster club does when the guys get into town. Kevin Green went around to each and every table and introduced himself - very cool. I sat next to Alex Maestri and across from Jeremy Papelbon. Both super nice guys - my husband was sitting next to Yusuf Carter, Dylan Johnston, Mark Pawelek and DJ Lewis. Pretty sure the conversation over there had to do with Mark buying this van he saw and painting it like the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo. Anyway, the food was good as was the company. In his comments to the crowd, Sandberg was excited about being in Peoria and sounded genuinely thrilled with the talent that he got for this team. Their spring training record was 11-3, so let's hope that bodes well for the upcoming season. The guys were practicing with the lights on after dinner, so spent a few minutes outside watching drills. Valerio Heredia looks super in center - he wasn't practicing there when we were in AZ a few weeks back, but his arm is super from center to 3rd, for instance - either 1 hop or no hopped it there...otherwise, it was kind of hard to tell who was who, as it got cold here while we were in eating. It was probably 60 when I went in, but 45 by the time practice started. Everyone had fleece on, and a few had changed numbers from what was printed on the initial roster Nate was kind enough to provide. Lots of media types on hand to get footage (as well as interviews, I would guess) so those of you in the Peoria area should be on the lookout for something in the sports segments coming soon.
  18. hurt. again. see this thread: http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/viewtopic.php?t=39345
  19. This is craziness, but our teams are nearly identical! http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/11100/5 Felix and Sheets nearly made up for my Carpenter start on Sunday evening.
  20. it's actually not 1R=1point. Take a look here: http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/11100/matchup?week=1&mid1=5&mid2=7 at the top, you'll see a box underneath our smack talk that shows the different scoring categories. For those things that are bolded for me, I'm currently in line to get the point for the week, those things bolded for you is where you're in line to get the point for the week. So there's only a chance to get 10 points total in a week, and it looks like they don't award points in case of a tie. The link that I added above can be shown by going to the right side of our league page, finding your name, then clicking the "Match Up" right next to it
  21. the tie won't stay - looks like they only update with numbers once a day, after all games are complete, so the info we've been scored on is from Sunday. After having just about every team play today, we should see some movement tomorrow. ...oh, and link that includes the scoring info is here: http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/11100/settings
  22. Here are the rosters in one nice neat page: http://karen.mackenzie.org/baseball/CubMinorLeagueRosters2007.htm I'll finish linking names to the minor league stats pages tomorrow or Wednesday, probably. Hopefully this will help as you're getting to learn which names go with which teams
  23. This is *almost* right, I think. You can have different lineups every day. Each day's lineup contributes to your total score for the week, and whoever does best overall with total score in each category gets the "win" at the end of the week. Does that help?
  24. You're KMacCurve, right? If so, you don't have to bench guys that aren't scheduled to play that day. If you want to replace a guy that isn't playing that day with someone that is playing, do that. But if you only have a few guys with games scheduled or scheduled to pitch on a certain day, it doesn't hurt you to have them sitting in your starting lineup. It's not a big deal, but if you bench a guy every time he isn't scheduled to play, it's a lot more work than you need to be doing and you might forget to change it (or have something come up and not be able to change it) and miss games by some guys. I'd recommend putting guys from your bench in for your normal starters whenever you want, but I wouldn't clear out guys that aren't playing/pitching. yep, that's me. Thanks much for the advice. I'll probably do that once I've gotten used to things a bit. Moving guys for the first couple of weeks will help me get to know my players a bit better, I think. Thanks for being willing to commish a bunch of us rookies, too! :D
