  1. Pretty sure this is the same John Nelson that the Chiefs had as part of the Cardinals organization in 2002(?)ish...
  2. I forgot how weird the Kane County schedules can be...on the day where everyone has the day off, they play at 6pm (granted, I'm sure they did fireworks) then today, once everyone's back at work, they play at noon. If it were "getaway" day, I'd get it, but that's not even the case - they don't play on Friday until 6:30. Very strange indeed. Guess it keeps all the fans on their toes :)
  3. Thanks much to those who were willing to take the 7/7 and 7/8 tickets off of my hands. Still have 3 for 7/9 at noon!
  4. today was a sad day for me - word came during the Chiefs game today that the Cubs have released Ryan Norwood. I know Dope's on the 40, but I had a tough time liking this decision by the organization. He's one of the good guys, so do hope he gets picked up by another organization shortly. Nate, any idea who the Chiefs are getting for the roster?
  5. Hi All! Am hoping someone is thinking about going to one or more of the Peoria Chiefs games in Cedar Rapids. We were planning on going, but now won't be able to. Here's the info on the tix: - 7/7, 7/8, 7/9 section 116, row G, seats 10-12 The 7/7 game is at 7pm, the 7/8 game at 2pm, and 7/9 at noon. No compensation required! I know there are a few folks in IA that might be thinking about going - just PM me with the game(s) you're interested in and your info and I'll get the tix in the mail to you Monday morning. If there's more than 1 interested party, it's first come, first served!
  6. here's the info I found for the south: http://mlntherawfeed.squarespace.com/minor-league-baseball/the-southern-league-announces-the-south-division-roster-for-.html Based on this info, looks like the north roster won't be released until Monday.
  7. just thought I'd mention that, when Mateo pitched, we had a significant number of scouts in the stands. I'm sure this was partially just the time of year, but there were at least 6 guns on him at every pitch (beyond the one our pitchers and their pitchers were using). When the opposing pitcher was up there, only 2 of those guns were being used, so have to think the scouts were there to evaluate Mateo.
  8. went to the game tonight (last night too) - and I have to tell you, the Chiefs have looked pretty darn good over those couple of days. Tonight, I thought Mateo looked *much* better than when we saw him in Peoria a few weeks ago. No more shaking his hand/lower arm, so probably more comfortable. He's getting there...but, when he hit the wall, he had a tough time getting things across. Definitely progress, though. Tonight's most exciting play was in the top of the 9th - with 2 outs Camp got on then stole 2nd and took 3rd uncontested. Mota brought him in with a single to tie things up. I hadn't seen that kind of energy from the team in quite a while (April, maybe?) so I hope they see the 2nd half as a new beginning. Defensively, both Lansford and Malone had great fielding plays tonight too - Lansford continues to impress me at 3rd for sure.
  9. This is *exactly* what I said when we were in Ft Wayne...
  10. Hitting isn't really Dylan's problem - when he made contact, he generally hit OK. It's the K-rate that's been crazy. Oh, and did I mention that he has 2 errors in 2 games in Boise? To go along with the 18 he had in 43 games as a Chief? His defense is *not* good...his arm is strong, but his fielding and throwing accuracy are the pits. I hope he doesn't end up back in Peoria, otherwise I might end up bald from the frustration.
  11. Have to concur - great pictures - thanks much for sharing them with us. I think my favorite is that oddball face that Chris Walker's got! I know he's in the middle of making a play, but it looks like a "holding my breath until I get what I want" sort of shot. Thanks again!
  12. looks like 2004 was the year he got a cup of coffee with the Cubs before getting traded to the Expos... Glad to see him doing well - for a minute I got him confused with Brendan Ryan, who's never been in the Cub organization, but did play SS in Peoria for the Chiefs when they were still affiliated with St. Louis. Too many SS's named Brendan!
  13. At least from my perspective on this, there was a lot of potential touted on this team when it first arrived. They haven't lived up to that potential yet - our pitching has not been horrible (there's just been a lot of churn due to injury) but the bats have definitely been cool to cold so far this season. There is a reason that we only have pitchers on the all-star team this year. I agree with Nate that Josh is absolutely the best 3rd baseman I've seen in the MWL defensively - he can get to anything and has consistently saved us runs by preventing doubles or triples down the line. Finally, even though the stats don't bear it out in the 1st half, I think Lansford could easily bat .300.
  14. Craptacular is exactly the right term to use to describe the Chiefs game tonight. Renshaw looked *fantastic* through 3 - then his control went. Overall, Clinton played great and we played awful. Dylan Johnston botched another play at short - costing us (likely) a double play - still not sure how that didn't get scored an error. Or why Mota isn't playing at short. Dylan continued to look uncomfortable at the plate, and not sure what he was doing in the leadoff position. Malone was actually born in the area, before moving away as an infant. We sat in front of what had to have been relatives - so it was nice to have some other Chiefs fans around. I hope tomorrow is a better day.
  15. I wish they would just release Dope already. Norwood's been looking great here in Peoria, and he needs to be back in Daytona.
  16. well, at least it wasn't just Peoria today. Don't know if that makes me feel better or not... :)
  17. we'll be there too. not there quite as much as Nate, but we're gaining  still bummed out because I got shut out of the 2nd jersey auction in a row tonight. Somehow I'll get over it. Maybe.
  18. listening to the Smokies game tonight made me wish we were going to be able to get down there this year. Glad to see Sean doing so well - he sounded overpowering tonight. Woo hoo!
  19. Kroeger on fire - 2 run HR in the top of the first...
  20. Chiefs are actually back in CR on July 7-9. We're planning on making the drive up for at least the Sat/Sun, and (depending on my husband's work schedule) perhaps Monday too. Hope to see you then :)
  21. Nick Nolde! I totally remember him from the Midwest League a couple of years ago. Pretty sure he umped here the year that Peoria hosted the all-star game. He obviously needs a bit of fiber himself.
  22. wow - didn't see that one coming. If anything, it seemed like he had been playing more as of late. Not necessarily playing *well* but playing nonetheless. I have been waiting for you to tell us who we're getting from Daytona, though. Spill the beans already!!! I'm going to guess Harvey as well, although with the great job Matt Camp's been doing in center, perhaps we don't need that 4th outfielder after all. Do tell, do tell! :)
  23. yay to Jerry for the promotion - he's a great guy and am glad to see him getting back to where he was when he was with the Chiefs a couple of years ago.
  24. We'll be up in Beloit for both Chiefs games this weekend, so will do my best to provide some (uneducated) info on the new guy. Will also be interested in how they do security for Ryne, as this is one of those parks that you have to walk across the concourse to get from the visiting clubhouse to the visiting dugout. Will try and get some pictures too. Tonight I was bummed out as I lost out on my pink jersey bid. Backup plan was to bid on the live auction for the team jersey - it went for $1000 (too rich for my blood) while Ryne's went for $1500. A great cause, but I should have put bids on more than 1 jersey. Definitely more competition than the last time around!
  25. I continue to maintain that Sam Fuld is an amazing baseball player. I was glad to see him land in TN. He's very smart in his approach to the game - definitely think he'll make it to the bigs...just hard to see how, exactly, with the glut of OF talent with the cubs at present.
