  1. Well, that explains things. Sitting at the game last night, I wondered why Dope wasn't even on the bench. Thought maybe he got hurt again...while I think this was ultimately the right move to make, the timing of it is strange. Perhaps they wanted to get Clevenger some more playing time at 1st?
  2. so couldn't find a picture, but here's the recipe! Did Seattle Sutton a few years ago myself but didn't like it because I didn't get any choice in what I ate. Not a big fish eater, and there were usually a couple of meals a week where I had to swap with my husband.
  3. There's a Project 3000 Auction in Daytona this evening - a local artist painted a guitar that the Booster Club has been selling raffle tickets to. Props to Oneri for noticing during a visit a few months back, taking it back with him and getting DLee to sign it. It's a very cool, unique piece. The Project 3000 Director is also here with Cubs signed memorabilia, so I'm hoping to land something good this evening :) For those of you near the Cubs minor league affiliates, I guess that they're all doing these auctions - the Chiefs will be August 25th(?) so keep your eyes peeled at a stadium near you!
  4. We've been in Daytona for the last couple of games, and the difference between these 2 players is actually pretty interesting to me. Harvey's bat has looked good, and has continued to have a great arm out in right field. Dope, on the other hand, looks old to me. I have a hard time understanding why he is continuing to take a spot on the 40 man and hasn't looked particularly great even against the FSL pitching we've been seeing. Anyway, just my 2 cents - it's tough seeing these 2 taking up starting spots, though when guys like Alfred Joseph aren't getting the opportunity after getting promoted to Daytona. Hope that they make a decision one way or the other on these 2. With all of the recent promotions, though, I do find it interesting that neither of these 2 were amongst them. Do I remember right that Dope is a FA at the end of the year?
  5. the Samardizija promotion was all my fault - I dragged his bobble head down here to Daytona this week while we're here. It took showing up at the game on Thursday to find out he'd been promoted! Oh well...hope he doesn't suck in TN - perhaps it will be worth it.
  6. the Chiefs game was *really* exciting today. The Blanco homerun was an absolute shot, and he hit another a couple innings later to almost exactly the same part of the park, just didn't quite get it all. More importantly, the Chiefs came back from giving up 3 runs in the top of the 10th. Dayton has been so tough this series that I was definitely nervious. It was very exciting to watch and makes me sorry that the boys are headed to MI for a week to play tough West MI and Lansing teams. We are still ahead of Quad Cities for the division lead by 1/2 game though - keep up the good work Chiefs! :D
  7. wow - good for Kyle! Didn't see the promotion to TN happening this year, but am glad to see he's adjusting well and making the most of things.
  8. perhaps  he comes in handy on occasion, though, in that (since he's canadian) we've got to go up to Chicago to renew his passport in August. Think we'll probably get to see a couple of games at Wrigley while we're there, so definitely a trade-off. With that said, when my Chiefs make the playoffs, I'm going with or without him!
  9. nope, doesn't appear to be that serious - just talking about the back and forth between the rotation and pen. Article is substantially longer, but here's a couple of points:
  10. Who's the player in your avatar? I don' think I have ever seen him before. It's Sam Fuld - one of the most underrated players in the Cub minor league organization, in my opinion. He's quietly having another outstanding season - this year with the Smokies. I like him because he's a marvelous baseball player - but also because he's got a good head on his shoulders. Not everyone can get an Econ degree from Stanford, and he managed to do so while playing for one of the most competitive college baseball teams at the time. He's also got juvenille diabetes, and it continues to amaze me how consistent he is despite this.
  11. I find myself calling Steve Phillips a moron on a frequent basis. It's not just the Bonds thing, he is usually a bonehead on most issues. That said, I would move this to rants :D
  12. Hi All! My husband's new 3rd shift job is seriously messing with my baseball road-trip habit :) We had initially planned on going up to Kane County on Saturday, 11 August (6pm game) and Sunday 12 August (2pm game). Hubby now has to work, and we've got some family stuff going on here in Peoria too. So, once again I have tickets to give away. Seats are the same each day - near the Chiefs (visitor) dugout - Section 111, row H seats 23 & 24 (I'm pretty sure these are aisle seats too) Interested? PM me with the game you'd like to attend and I'll let you know if they're still available. Kane County has been really awful this year, but the Chiefs are currently leading the division. There are lots of new guys in the last couple of weeks, several of which are 2007 draft picks.
  13. Hello All! I've got 8 extra seats to the Peoria Chiefs game in Peoria on Tuesday. I'm going to give these tickets to wonderful NSBBers. There's lots going on: - Ernie Banks will be there. He won't be signing, but every person gets a chance to win autographed prizes - Kerry Wood will be rehabbing - sure it's just an inning, but it'll still be fun - Henry Blanco should still be with us - Free hot dogs and popcorn through the 7th inning. Sure, the soda's $4 (for the big one) but at least you don't have to spend $20 on food - It's NASCAR night - the Waste Management car will be there Interested? PM me and I'll let you know whether I still have any left. Free dinner and Mr. Cub - life is good. Game time - 7pm.
  14. figures, since they're out of town. Hopefully he'll be with the Chiefs over the homestand this weekend too. I wonder if Nate doesn't have internet access in South Bend - haven't seen his usual posts here and the website still has info from the Swing series last weekend...
  15. yep, I'm in too!
  16. we'll miss you Raisin...hurry back soon!
  17. wow - didn't realize that Valdez was struggling that much in Daytona. He was amazing for Peoria last year...
  18. more on what we gave up with Blevins http://firstinning.com/players/Jerry-Blevins-a Jerry was the closer here in Peoria in 2005 and was very effective. He had arm issues in 2006, and then spent the winter of 2006-2007 in Colombia playing ball there. He's a great clubhouse guy too. Drat that the Cubs let him go.
  19. Transactions: Drop Bill Hall Add Prince Fielder (group C) Drop Marcus Thames Add Justin Morneau (group C) change in wild card PMed to Laura
  20. this site was just posted recently by someone on NSBB - http://firstinning.com/ I also like http://www.basballprospectus.com http://www.rotowire.com although both of these require pay subscriptions to get to some info.
  21. yes, moving up or moving out. Mateo looked so much better the last time he pitched - not only were his pitches where they needed to be, he also showed endurance that he previously hadn't. There were at least 6 scouts in the stands watching Mateo the last time he started in Peoria.
  22. From the 4 or so Boise games I've seen, his fielding has been ok (though he's gotten crossed up a few times and fielding errors that minor league SS just shouldn't). His throws are the worst, he tends to rush his throws and can get Rex Grossman happy feet. And it's crazy that this is still the case, because I know that, when he was in Peoria, the coaches spent a huge amount of time trying to get him right in this area. If he can't get this fixed, it's not going to matter how good his bat is.
  23. fleita was there at least 4 games of our last homestand too, so not sure. Perhaps they're trying to figure out who they'd be willing to sacrifice as part of a trade? Also, Julio Garcia, the Latin America coordinator, coached 1st today. Forgot about that earlier.
  24. fleita, wilken, and some others (but it's been a whole 9 hours and I forget who else!)
  25. Could definitely be. Chiefs are up 2-0 in bottom of 2 - sounds like 1/2 of the Cub minor league front office is there. Perhaps *that's* why they've got a day game!
