  1. Seconded That's the only reason why I wasn't a fan of the Floyd signing. I felt that Murton was good enough to be our every day LFer. As long as Murton gets 80% of the starts I'm ok with it. I have a feeling that Ward won't make the team and Floyd ends up as the backup at 1B for Lee. Why in the world would you think that Ward won't make the team? He had a 1.000 OPS against righties last year.
  2. I just wanted to point out that it isn't always bad to swing at the first pitch as long as you can make good contact.
  3. Did anyone else grimace at the last quote in that article, where he says they got the bases loaded, and they had the right guy (Ward) at the plate? Well, that is what he is supposed to do-come in during the late innings and be the main pinch-hitter in a key situation. Yep. I don't see anything wrong with Lou's quote. He had his left-handed pinch hitter who had over a 1.000 OPS against righties last year up with the bases loaded late in the game. Sounds like it would normally be a pretty good situation to me.
  4. His numbers "pail in comparison to Tejada and Michael Young", yet he had a higher OPS than both of them last year?
  5. Ben Howard. Former top prospect for the Padres.
  6. Overrated. You are being sarcastic when you keep repeating this, right?
  7. It's amazing that he didn't try that in St. Louis. How do you think he got away with an ERA in the high 3s between 2004 and 2005 with a whip in the high 1.3s?
  8. Does anyone know what BP's NL Central predictions for 2006 were?
  9. $50,000 for 50 acres? That doesn't seem like market value for 50 acres. Then again, he didn't buy it on the open market and I have no idea what the surface of the land is like.
  10. Well, so far so good on my extra ticket purchases. Background: I wasn't aware early on that you could only buy six per game for the entire weekend, I thought it was just six per time you got into the system. I ended up with 12 bleacher seats to a weekend Cardinals game. So far, my credit card has been billed for all of these. Has anyone had this happen where their credit card was later credited instead and they didn't end up with the tickets? I'm fine with losing six of them, but I will be very disappointed if I lose all twelve. edit: if anyone is interested in Braves bleacher tickets for Saturday, June 2nd, shoot me a private message.
  11. Whew. That is the perfect line-up, given the resources. *edit* Well, I guess I don't know for sure about the 5 and 6 slots, but I'm not sure it's all that important.
  12. So, basically people are going to complain no matter which strategy they take?
  13. Floyd is talking like Baker is the manager....Piniella will begin with performance and then if Murton actually competes and shows he has the ability to start Floyd will end up traded with Jones. You don't value a deep bench?
  14. Atlanta could use him at #10.
  15. That's all well and good, but I was simply responding to his statement that a running back who runs a 4.6 wouldn't go in the second round. I can't see Walker going in the second either, FWIW.
  16. Huh? Ever heard of Ladell Betts? There are countless other examples. In general, I think people misunderstand what kind of 40 times people run. 4.6 is acceptable for a RB. Heck, Emmitt Smith ran in the 4.6s and was a first rounder.
  17. Man, I love that pic of yours of the girl w/ the stein. Germany?
  18. As it stands now, and unless I see a reason to proceed differently, I'm going with: Z vs. Matsuzaka Hill vs. Papelbon Prior vs. Beckett I still have to think about Prior or Lilly though.
  19. Honestly? I'd rank the Red Sox pitchers according to those categories (I'd rank the Cubs options as Z, Hill, Lilly, Prior as the 4th) and then I'd put Z against the best starter from the Red Sox, Lilly against the second best, and Hill against the third best. I do that for one reason-I think Z is going to beat any of those 3 Red Sox pitchers, so you want to take out their best. I think Hill is the second best option, but you only need to win 2 out of 3-make it a more guaranteed win by putting him against the worst one of the 3 for the Red Sox. Then, you maybe sacrifice Lilly, but he still has a chance against the second best person. I like your line of thinking. The real question is how do I rank the Red Sox? 1. Matsuzaka (what do we really know?) 2. Beckett (last year's ERA a likely abberition). 3. Papelbon (surprised he took him over Schilling)
  20. Today. He's no dummy. Well, not totally.
  21. I guess I am just more of a risk taker, I was thinking of taking Prior and matching him up with Papelbon, since Papelbon is sort of an unknown too. The rest: Z vs. Beckett and Hill vs. Matsuzaka. I think Z vs. Beckett gets me a near sure winner out the gate (Beckett has not approached Z's K totals the last three years) and then I just hope for one of the other two to come through. Bad strategy?
  22. Those are the three I am looking at, but precisely how do I match them up with his pitchers?
  23. This isn't really "fantasy" per se, but close enough. OK, here's the background. I have a co-worker who is a big Red Sox fans and we got to talking pitching last week and agreed to place a wager on the Cubs vs. Red Sox pitchers. He gets to choose three Red Sox starters and I get to choose three Cubs starters to match his. Best two out of three wins. The categories, also rated by best two out of three, are strikeouts, wins, and ERA. He has chosen Matsuzaka, Beckett, and Papelbon. I have an idea of how I want to match up the Cubs, but wanted to hear your suggestions first. Thanks.
