  1. Harvey would have been a "much better" pick there? The same Harvey that went in the middle of the third round?
  2. Interesting. I thought the idea was for Soriano to be a good influence on Pie, but it looks like just the opposite. Like I've said before, with Pie in CF, Soriano has less ground to cover in LF and that allows Fonz to focus about his bat and not worry about his glove. Do you really think that matters? I certainly don't.
  3. Especially considering they can't trade the pick.
  4. I'm thinking the Vikings wished that the NFL had similar patience.
  5. Can we listen to the draft like last year or is it a whole different format now that it is being televised?
  6. I think Butler is more likely to be a DH than an OF long term.
  7. I don't know if anyone has mentioned this or not, but Keith Law at ESPN now projects the Cubs to take high school 3B Matt Dominquez.
  8. Fontenot is killing the ball in Iowa right now (1.029 OPS). Patterson is doing well too (.893 OPS). Fontenot is probably more versatile in the field though if he can actually play a good SS.
  9. Mind you, this rumor could be complete BS. However, if it is true, I doubt it has anything to do with Izturis.
  10. Supposedly, that is the rumor around Des Moines. Did somebody else get hurt last night? I didn't see the game.
  11. Hype will take you a long way Disagree. That is exactly how I would rank the three.
  12. But why would they need an excuse to do that? All four are better players than Encarnacion.
  13. Yeah...ok.
  14. At this point I dont think Lou and Jim see Murton as anything but a bench player. Yesterday starting DeRossa in RF pretty much proved what I had been suspecting for several weeks. If that is the case than I really dont see them trading Jones or Floyd. One start for DeRosa in the outfield in the last couple of weeks proves what exactly? Way too much is being made of that lineup maneuver, IMHO.
  15. I would have been willing to bet that Wuertz could have gotten out of 7th and not given up the lead as Howry did. I'd would have been willing to bet that the offense, with Murton instead of Izturiz would have scored more than the 3 they needed to get to the 10th. Except that Izturis was on base after each of his three plate appearances, so, unless you know for sure that Murton would have hit a home run or something, then your last point is highly unlikely.
  16. Huh?
  17. He missed it by inches. We gotta lead the league in doubles. You're right, the team does lead the NL in doubles. According to Yahoo!, Lee has 17 by himself. Wow.
  18. Is there really a significant difference between asking him to get three outs or four? Magic 8-ball says not likely. Actually yes. Dempster had to warm up to pitch this inning. He threw 5 pitches. He will warm up again next inning, then throw how ever many pitches. Considering that the vast majority of the time Dempster will warm up and throw one time a day. I don't see him being expected to come back 3-4 hours from now and pitching again. You'll have to forgive me if I disagree that it will make a difference. I think it'll make a difference, and Dempster will likely be unavailable for the second game. But I think trying to lock down the first game is more important than perhaps needing Dempster for the second game. Wuertz is available, and he's more than capable. But, what is "it"? If he is unavailable later, I think it's because he closed out the first game and Lou doesn't want him pitching more than once in a day. I don't think it makes one bit of difference whether he went 1.0 or 1.3 to get the save. That's just silly, IMHO.

  21. I thought Brenley noted that Izturis was like 8/13 against Armas in his career?
  22. While Lincecum is obviously tearing up the PCL, Yovanni Gallardo isn't that far behind: 2.70 ERA, 30 IP, 42 Ks, 8 BB, 0.93 WHIP, .187 BAA. Looks like the Brewers might be getting a shot in the arm now any day as well. Although there really isn't a spot for him in the rotation until Sheets' next injury.
  23. Murton hasn't exactly had the best pitch selection this year at the plate either.
  24. Pie had started three in a row, there's nothing wrong with giving him a day off. I didn't hear people clammoring that Floyd had "been benched" after having a four hit game on Wednesday.
