  1. WHIP is such a bad stat. It's the batting-average of pitchers. His FIP going into today was 4.50, almost dead even with his ERA. No BABIP luck or anything like that in there. Is it really? I'm sway-able on this. 1.5 just seems exceedingly high to have such an average ERA.
  2. With a whip heading into the 1.5s, I imagine his ERA has come with a fair bit of luck to this point. I'd love to kick his ass to long relief, but who takes his spot?
  3. Yeah, he's a big country boy from the smallest of small towns. Population under 900 if I remember right.
  4. here we go, he cant control his breaking pitch, so we can just sit on fastball and put some linedrives together
  5. yeah, to illustrate some of the deficiencies of ERA and ERA+, he's been better or equal to last season so far (101 ops+), 4.43 ERA, but with a whip of 1.47, his era was bound to take a tumble eventually
  6. would be nice to get at least a couple of these back this inning
  7. lol, patterson theriot'd that throw
  8. i mean, its the corpse of kevin millar and a lefty is coming up, just let him make contact
  9. not a great result, but getting this Egyptian's pitch count up early is going to pay off
  10. I really don't think there's a Cub that I've been happier to see do well than Kerry this year. The fact that he's turned into one of the best players at his position in baseball makes it even sweeter.
  11. it wasnt as bad as i imagined, but why is lou walking around with his hands on his hips like he's pregnant?
  12. Awesome, on both accounts.
  13. Gehrig and Foxx are some good looking dudes
  14. what did he say about Morrison and Redick when they were drafted? Redick needs to get the hell out of Orlando. He has no future on that team. I think he could become a decent role player, but it has to be the right situation. If he can't play as a spot up shooter on a team with the best low post player in basketball, where would he succeed? the problem is that they already have two perimeter players whose job it is to score in Turkoglu and Lewis. I get that, but shooting is maybe the toughest thing to find in the league. There is no question he could do that. SO why can't he even get on the court? Especially on a team that really doesn't have a two guard. The two you mentioned are still post players. I really think that Reddick is just this generation's Alford. There's a difference between being able to shoot and being able to create a shot in the nba. I have no doubt that he can sit outside the 3-point line and drain jumpers all night long, but i dont think he's quick, agile or strong enough to get his shot off in the league. kyle korver really isn't quick, agile or strong, and he's made a niche for himself in the league. don't know if reddick is slower than korver, but that seems hard to imagine, honestly. Korver is 6'6 and is being guarded by slower players than guard Redick, who has a size disadvantage to go along with his quickness disadvantage
  15. Jim Edmonds is the best thing Hendry has done since the Lee trade
  16. It's not gonna happen. And I'll echo the TJ Ford love. I hated him in college, but he's pretty damn solid
  17. There needs to be an investigation. Yeah, that .302 average and .816 ops Schumaker has accrued are just beyond comprehension given his .298 career average and .774 career ops. And 6 homers in 258 at-bats? Crazy. And Ankiel, he's hitting .254 with as many homers in 80 games as he hit in 30 last year. Clearly something is amiss. Easy buddy, remember that this is a Cubs forum. Try to get your feet wet before you start in with the condescension. I think that the sooner cubs fans stop obsessing about the stupid cardinals, the better. if it takes some cardinal condescension to get it to happen, im all for it.
  18. At this point, Rose can pretty much turn into one of about a dozen different things. That's part of what makes him so attractive.
  19. Nothing new. Said that to get Sabathia, you need motivation and prospects. the cubs have the motivation, but the mysterious "baseball people" dont think that they have the prospects.
  20. definitely the brewers
  21. I want to think that the Beast will be as good as he looked in college, I keep having Derrick Coleman nightmares. A good player, but not one that ever did what he should have. FYI, Derrick Coleman's first 5 years. 90-91: 18.4 PPG, 10.3 RPG 91-92: 19.8 / 9.5 92-93: 20.7 / 11.2 93-94: 20.2 / 11.3 94-95: 20.5 / 10.6 The Nets traded him after 95. He hurt his knee and got fat....and that was it. Any team should kill for numbers like that out of Beasley in his first 5 years. Yeah, I got jumped on for a Coleman comparison earlier, but Beasley would probably be lucky to be as good as Coleman was before he started smoking pot or whatever Just mark me down as wanting to draft the next Chris Paul, and not the next Derrick Coleman. I would draft Rose, too.
