    And that's my point. Why would Wood want to sign a 1 year deal with a team, which could inevitably be the last contract he ever signs, if he can likely get a 3 or 4 year deal for much more. Why would anyone do that? It would be great if he would do that, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Because he doesn't want to uproot his family, likes his teammates, likes the city, etc. I know players don't do that, but I don't really understand why they don't. For example, I'm going after a clinical pharmacist job that will likely pay $20,000-$30,000 less than what I could make if I wanted to work as a community pharmacist. 20 grand versus like $25 million gee i wonder

I know hendry doesn't want to give up our most valuable pieces, but if we're going to get value we got to give up value. id be willing to part with theriot for a difference maker

    He didn't use him poorly...he just overused him Marmol in the closer role almost seems like a waste lou used him poorly ... some of the time if marmol makes 50 appearances or whatever as a closer, that will be misusing him all of the time Well thats just wrong. Using someone as a closer is pretty much by definition using him really well some of the time and poorly some of the time. yeah, you're right. I shouldn't have said all the time. I was just saying that odds are using Marmol strictly as a closer will lead to more misuse than if he's left in his fireman role.

    Jim Hendry(or possibly Lou) think Kerry's a health risk and are throwing a tantrum about the 3 weeks he was on the DL this season. Because of this they didn't want him back under most any circumstances. This is my out of my ass theory. Basically they're playing the role of the moron Cub fans who want to get over Prior/Wood. i'm really at a loss. yesterday I was fine with everything, but finding out wood would have stayed for a 1-year deal is just hard to stomach.

    this whole deal today was set in motion 15 years ago by the decision not to re-sign andre dawson imo

    Just wait until Hendry signs Gregg longer term, and Wood winds up somewhere for reasonable dollars. Come on IMB, you've seen this movie before. It's still not a comparison at all. What is Gregg's top-end contact? 3-12? 3-15? We're still talking about a saving over well over $20 million dollars, and at least Gregg is a safe bet to still be pitching by the end of that deal. Signing Woody would have been a stupid move. Not that that fact would make a Gregg long-term deal palatable, but the Woody ship had sailed, regardless. Gregg's top end contract is way higher than 3-12. 3-24 probably would get him to sign this offseason. Otherwise he'll get 45 saves closing for a team that's good in spite of its management and get 5-60 next year. This is awful. i keep forgetting about those [expletive] saves if 4-40 for woody is too much, hendry is not going to drop a stack half that big on gregg

    i'm not a big ceda fan, but i really thought (think?) is value would have been higher as part of a bigger package, instead of a one-for-one for a slightly above average reliever
